TBS’s coverage of the 2021 National League Wild Card, which saw the Dodgers topple the Cardinals, ranked as the second most-watched Wild Card telecast in the network’s history, averaging 6.7 million viewers, for a 41% rise over the 2019 NL Wild Card on TBS. The live game telecast peaked with an average of 7.4 million total viewers from 10-10:15p and was up double digits across all key demos, including a 36% increase in People 18-34 over the network’s NL Wild Card telecast in 2019. TBS continues exclusive coverage of the National league today with both Game 1s of the best-of-five National League Division Series presented by Good Sam. The MLB Postseason Pre-Game Show will precede coverage at 4p, followed by the Brewers/Braves at 4:30p and the Dodgers. Giants at 9:30p.

PROGRAMMING

Meanwhile, the 2021 American League Wild Card Game between the Red Sox and the Yankees was also a hit, ranking as the most-watched MLB game on ESPN platforms since 1998 on Tuesday. The game telecasts across ESPN and ESPN2 averaged 7.7 million viewers, according to Nielsen, up 67% from the last time ESPN and ESPN2 televised a Wild Card Game, in 2019.

Looking ahead, Joe Buck and John Smoltz team for their sixth consecutive FOX MLB Postseason, which will host the American League Division Series, American League Championship Series and the World Series. Host Kevin Burkhardt anchors the FOX Sports studio pregame and postgame desk for the Emmy Award-winning team that includes Frank Thomas and Alex Rodriguez and David Ortiz. FOX MLB Postseason playoff shows open from the FOX Sports Los Angeles studio for the ALDS before shifting to on-site locations for select ALCS matchups and the World Series. FOX Deportes’ roster is led by veteran play-by-play announcer Adrian Garcia Marquez alongside analyst and former MLB infielder Edgar Gonzalez and announcer/reporter Carlos Alvarez.

NBC Sports and U.S. Figure Skating revealed the schedule for the 2021-22 figure skating season. From October to April, NBC Sports and Peacock will serve up more than 175 hours of coverage, in addition to NBCUniversal’s coverage of the 2022 Winter Olympics in February. Beginning with Skate America, NBC Sports will present more than 30 hours of figure skating coverage on NBC, with an additional 50 hours airing on NBCSN, USA and E!. Olympic Channel: Home of Team USA will present original programming plus encores of figure skating coverage of several events. Coverage will showcase the U.S. Figure Skating Championships, ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series (including Skate America), ISU World Championships, ISU Four Continents Championships and the ISU European Championships.

Coming out of London, An NFL Network Special will deliver the Jets and Falcons squaring off on NFL Network on Sunday at 9:30a from Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. Play-by-play announcer Greg Gumbel, game analyst Adam Archuleta, and sideline reporters AJ Ross and Melissa Stark call the game.

ViacomCBS Global Distribution Group announced a new multi-year distribution agreement with WOW – Women Of Wrestling (WOW). The deal gives WOW the biggest distribution opportunities for the U.S. and abroad in the history of women’s professional wrestling. WOW is owned by Jeanie Buss and was created by David McLane, founder of women’s wrestling’s original hit series GLOW. New episodes of WOW will launch in weekend syndication beginning in the fall of 2022. ViacomCBS Global Distribution Group has already secured clearance in 160 markets, representing 70% of the country. AJ Mendez will provide color commentary during each broadcast, which will feature the return of WOW World Champion The Beast and former world champion Tessa Blanchard to the squared circle.

ESPN presents the 31st annual The Home Depot College Football Awards on Dec. 9, at 7p. The awards show – which celebrates the top performers and best moments from the college football regular season – will move to a virtual format, hosted live from ESPN’s Bristol studios. “The Home Depot College Football Awards has recognized the elite players and performances during the college football season for more than three decades and this new virtual format offers so many possibilities for family, friends, coaches and teammates to participate in the celebration,” said Kurt Dargis, ESPN senior director programming and acquisitions.

The NHL, in association with the Tampa Bay Sports Commission, will open the 2021-22 season with the 2021 NHL Face-Off Concert featuring multi-platinum band All Time Low and a special appearance by the Stanley Cup on Oct. 12, in downtown Tampa before the Tampa Bay Lightning raise their third Stanley Cup championship banner inside AMALIE Arena. The free concert will originate from a stage in the waters where the Hillsborough River meets the Garrison Channel.

Parleh Media Group announced the launch of Parleh TV in Canada, the country’s first dedicated sports betting broadcast network. The free online channel will be available to all sports fans 24/7 starting on Oct. 12 ahead of the start of the NHL season.

HBO ordered Game Theory with Bomani Jones, a weekly, late-night series starring sports journalist and commentator Bomani Jones, that will “break down timely issues playing out in the world of sports.” Production will take place in New York starting in 2022.

Mark Burnett and MGM Television teamed with Major League Soccer and new expansion team Charlotte FC for a reality competition series, according to Deadline. “Welcome To The Team” (wt) will focus on the journey of a group of players from around the world competing to join the team, based in Charlotte, NC, ahead of its debut 2022 season.

DAZN reports that its live global sports viewing figures reached a total of well over 65 million streams across internet-enabled devices this weekend. DAZN also notched over 2.7 million global concurrent viewers streaming sports content at a single moment over the weekend. “DAZN is using next generation technology to challenge the status quo”, said DAZN Co-CEO Shay Segev. “Our mission is to make watching live sports easier and better for fans. We are completely revolutionising the sector, championing the fan in everything we do and making sure they can watch the sports they love. Streaming flexibility is what fans want and DAZN is delivering.”

Sports USA reached an agreement with the National Hockey League to be the League’s exclusive live national radio play-by-play partner through the 2024-2025 season. The broadcasts will include select regular season games and continue through the Stanley Cup Final each year.

Sportradar and the Big Ten Network partnered to relaunch B1G+, a direct-to-consumer subscription service for non-televised events powered by the Big Ten Network. The “revitalized” B1G+ includes approximately 1,500 live streams of Big Ten Olympic sports, as well as video-on-demand of basketball and football games that previously aired on linear channels.

Avatar platform Ready Player Me is partnering with sport footwear brand New Balance with an eye on the metaverse to customize characters with New Balance ahead of the 2021 London Marathon. “We wanted to create additional and meaningful avatars based on iconic brands, and we believe athletic shoes from New Balance would be impactful”, said Ready Player Me CEO Timmu Toke. “With the importance of health and wellness in mind, we felt the London marathon would be the perfect place to feature our partnership with New Balance.”

The five remaining events in the 2021 PBR Australia Monster Energy Tour will now be live streamed on Facebook, beginning Saturday in Mackay, Queensland, Australia. PBR will become one of the world’s first major sports organizations to offer pay-per-view events on Facebook.
