IMS technology: The IP Multimedia Subsystem is an architectural framework for delivering IP multimedia services. Historically, mobile phones have provided voice call services over a switched-circuit-style network, rather than strictly over an IP packet-switched network. IMS is an architectural framework to provide standardization of delivery.
New Form announced an $18 million series B round of funding from ITV and Discovery Communications, with ITV taking a minority stake in the company, as well as striking a strategic partnership with New Form. In 2014, Discovery Communications announced the funding and formation of New Form, a next generation digital studio.
Ad fraud protection and data intelligence specialist Pixalate launched the Video Seller Trust Index, a cross-platform rating system for video advertising spanning programmatic TV, mobile and desktop formats. VSTI will track the movement of video ad spend from traditional direct channels, to programmatic sellers.
The Federal Trade Commission is watching smart TVs because it’s concerned with just how smart they can be regarding viewers’ personal data. AdExchanger reports that at an FTC workshop on Wednesday, the Commission sought to clarify how the ad industry is using the data that’s being collected. “Consumers expect some level of data collection when they use their computer,” said Jessica Rich, director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection. “[But] many consumers have a fundamentally different relationship with their television than their computer.”
T-Mobile’s answer to AT&T’s NumberSync technology, which lets customers use one phone number across all their connected devices, is called Digits. It’s been released in a limited, opt-in customer beta beginning before rolling out widely early next year.

Paris-based ad targeting and retargeting specialist Criteo has launched patent-pending ad creation technology called Kinetic Design, to deliver ads that are contextually optimized for each consumer. The new Kinetic Design offers virtually unlimited personalization with 17 trillion visual ad variations.
Neustar is now offering a Data Directory to help marketers create and optimize custom audiences, activate them across channels and yield insights into return on marketing investment. The Data Directory gives users access to Neustar’s segment attributes from its own audiences, as well as to third-party data sources.
MPP Global is partnering with Lineup Systems, an advertising sales solution built for media companies. Lineup’s AdPoint product will be integrated with MPP Global‘s eSuite. Lineup customers will be able to take advantage of MPP Global‘s secure transaction processing capabilities, ensuring that a publisher‘s customer can pay in any currency, using any payment type or method.
Mondelez International’s Sour Patch Kids is releasing a branded Samsung Gear VR game, MediaPost reports. Sour Patch Kids: Zombie Invasion, priced at $2.99, will debut on the Oculus Store on Dec. 8. Sour Patch Kids’ previously released games have been free.
Three-year-old anonymous social network Yik Yak, which raised $73.5 million in a bid to rival Facebook, laid off a “significant” number of its roughly 50 people, sources told The Verge. Yik Yak CEO Tyler Droll confirmed to The Verge that the company had made what he termed “strategic changes.”
Microsoft’s acquisition of LinkedIn is officially completed, following regulatory approval in Europe earlier this week. VentureBeat expects expect LinkedIn identity data to be integrated into Outlook and Office, with LinkedIn notifications appearing in the Windows Action Center.
GroupM’s Xaxis unit promoted Nicolas Bidon to the role of global president. He replaces Brian Gleason, who recently became global CEO of Group M‘s new mPlatform data system. Bidon was Xaxis‘ CEO for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
