File-by-File patching: Earlier this week, Google announced a new way of updating apps while using substantially less data. With File-by-File patching, Google Play sends Android devices a patch that describes the differences between the old and new versions of the app. (It’s akin to changing one paragraph in a book without republishing the entire book.) Google says app updates, on average, are now 65% smaller than the full app and in some cases more than 90% smaller.


may become the second-biggest media supplier to WPP Group next year behind Google, according to CEO Martin Sorrell, who addressed the UBS media conference this week. In 2016, WPP will spend about $5.5 billion on Google compared with $4 billion a year ago. News Corp. and Twenty-First Century Fox are currently in second place.
FOX Sports
and virtual reality company LiveLike will broadcast Saturday’s MLS Cup through the FOX Sports VR app, marking the first time the league’s championship game has been offered in virtual reality. Audi is the presenting sponsor. Coverage for the 2016 MLS Cup kicks off on December 10 at 7:30 p.m. ET on FOX.
Seeking to better target millennials, Turner has a new arrangement with Snapchat’s Discover platform that involves extending live coverage of Turner’s premium sports events and working with several Turner brands to develop Snapchat shows. As part of this deal, Turner will help to develop original shows from such series and brands as TBS, Adult Swim, truTV, Great Big Story and Super Deluxe.
chairman Randall Stephenson’s pitch to Congress is simple: The combined AT&T-Time Warner entity would be a sorely needed disrupter going up against deeply entrenched pay-TV players, all to the benefit of consumers. An AT&T-Time Warner combo would "disrupt the entrenched pay-TV models," in Stephenson’s words, while accelerating the deployment of 5G wireless broadband. He cites as one example DirecTV Now.
Fantasy 6 Sports is launching its first foray into National Basketball Association basketball with Draft Rivals: Fantasy Basketball, which is scheduled for release on Dec. 15. Draft Rivals: Fantasy Basketball will allow players to face off in live, player versus layer action against basketball rivals from around the world.

says it will release smartphone games in Japan beginning in April 2017 while introducing companion gadgets for them, in its latest effort to lure casual gamers to its PlayStation console franchise. The new offerings will include smartphone versions of popular PlayStation franchises such as “Everybody’s Golf” and “PaRappa the Rapper.”
Global mobile advertising and discovery platform InMobi is integrating with Nielsen Digital Ad Ratings. It will enable advertisers to independently measure the demographic composition of the audiences reached via InMobi.
Mobile video supply side platform AerServ has formed a partnership with advertising systems provider Mediaocean, in an effort to offer local broadcast access to unique and premium inventory through one source.


Although it’s not been the best at sharing, Apple indicated this week that its artificial intelligence researchers are going to start publishing some of their work and engaging more with the wider academic community. BusinessInsider cites comments by Russ Salakhutdinov, director of AI research at Apple and a professor at Carnegie Mellon University, at a conference.
Nearly one-third of smartwatches and fitness trackers (29% and 30%, respectively) are abandoned by their owners, according to a new study by analyst firm Gartner and reported by ZDNet. Those who abandoned their devices did so because they didn’t find them useful, got bored with them or they broke.
To determine the TV ads generating the most digital response, iSpot.tv measures digital actions across Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and all major search engines. Here, a look at the brands that advertised during the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, which aired Monday night on CBS.

In terms of the brands generating the most digital response to their ads during the show, MasterCard came out on top, thanks to the three glamorous, mostly wordless commercials it ran showing beautiful people living the high life while using their MasterCard Black, Gold and Titanium cards.”

Canvs, the language analytics company that measures emotions around content, analyzed tweets about TV and streaming programming from Nov. 30-Dec. 6 using Twitter data from Nielsen. Insights from the 3,155,719 tweets expressing a specific Emotional Reaction (ER) include:
– 25.1% of viewers who talked about something on TV being badass were tuned into The Walking Dead on AMC.
– 15.5% of people who said what they were watching was beautiful were checking out The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on CBS
– 9.6% of viewers sending congratulatory messages on Twitter were watching NFL football on Fox.
– 4% of people who talked about being excited about what they were watching on TV were tuned into The Voice’s live Top 10 eliminations on NBC.

Irked that one of its videos about La Niña had been deliberately misinterpreted to downplay the reality of climate change, TWC produced an explainer video featuring meteorologist Kait Parker.
