CSAIL: The Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory is a research center at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a hotbed of technological innovation. CSAIL’s most recent project is the first system of its kind that allows non-experts to design and build their own custom drones, based on personal requirements.
The Supreme Court overturned Apple‘s $400 million award in its long-running patent lawsuit against Samsung, ruling that juries need not award damages based on the profits for an entire product if the item consists of many parts. The case will be returned to the Federal Circuit so that the damages can be reassessed.
Twitter says the Rio Summer Olympics Games were the top global trending topics of 2016, with some 187 million tweets. One TV program made the top 10: Game of Thrones (#10).

VIZIO has added XUMO, the live and OTT/VOD platform available to more than 20 million smart TVs in the U.S., to VIZIO SmartCast. XUMO‘s catalogue of more than 70 premium OTT channels includes FOX Sports, People/Entertainment Weekly Network and Sports Illustrated.
Sonos officially rolled out third-party app support for Spotify on Tuesday, making it possible for Spotify users to control playback on Sonos speakers directly from the music service’s mobile apps. The feature was announced in August, and went to beta trial in early November.
Jason Goldberg of e-commerce company Fab said his new startup Pepo has raised $2.3 million in seed funding, according to BusinessInsider. Pepo is a messaging app.
During 3Q16, 52% of all video viewing came from mobile devices, says Ooyala’s Global Index report – up a whopping 233% since 3Q13. Viewing on phones is more extended, too, with 48 percent of viewing on smartphones related to clips that are five minutes or longer, and 30 percent of viewing about videos that are 20 minutes or longer.
The ListenFirst Television Interest (TVI) Rating (TM) is a standardized measurement of the most buzzed-about TV programs on linear TV and streaming services. A complement to ListenFirst’s other syndicated data products (such as the ListenFirst Digital Audience Rating – TV), the metrics included in the rating capture organic actions that are largely unaffected by paid media. Programs that surface on the TVI leaderboards are the most hashtagged on Facebook, Google+, and Tumblr, as well as most searched for on Wikipedia (used as a proxy for organic search volume).
