IN THE NEWS
NBC handed a series order to “Night Court,” based on the 1984-92 sitcom created by Reinhold Weege. Melissa Rauch (“The Big Bang Theory”) stars as the daughter of the late Harry Stone, along with John Larroguette reprising the role of Dan Fielding. Rauch and Winston Rauch are executive producing via their After January production company, with Dan Rubin (“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt”). Larroquette is a producer on the series, from Warner Bros. Television, Universal Television and After January.
Netflix renewed “The Witcher” for season three, ahead of the hit supernatural series’ season two debut on December 17. The franchise will also expand with a second anime feature film and a new kids and families series. The announcements were made at Saturday’s virtual “Tudum: A Netflix Global Fan Event.”
Also set for a new season is Netflix’s “Sex Education,” renewed for season four a week after its season three debut.
HBO Max ordered a third season of “The Other Two.” The comedy launched on Comedy Central, then moved to the streamer for season two in August, where it has seen steady growth each week.
“Naked and Afraid of Love” landed a season two pick-up from discovery+. “A hit franchise on linear, we were excited to explore and lean into what ‘Naked and Afraid’ could be specifically on discovery+ and it is gratifying to see the creative and strategy payoff,” said Nancy Daniels, Chief Brand Officer, Discovery and Factual. “This is where it gets fun, finding creative ways to fuel both of our streaming and linear businesses.”
Facebook has agreed to participate in the September 30 Senate hearing, “Protecting Kids Online: Facebook, Instagram, & Mental Health Harms.” Facebook’s Global Head of Safety Antigone David is scheduled to attend the hearing, which Senator Richard Blumenthal said will “examine the toxic effects of Facebook and Instagram on young people and others.”
A report from the VAB indicates that an increased TV investment, combined with a total audience TV buying strategy, results in clear business gains. “Our analysis proves marketers who target all consumers and broaden beyond traditional buying demos experience significant financial upside,” said Danielle DeLauro, EVP, VAB. “KPIs including customer base growth, website traffic and revenue are all impacted by shifting to a total audience mindset, which for data-driven DTC brands is a winning component of their success.”
Out of safety concerns for kids 6-11 during the pandemic, “Clifford the Big Red Dog” will be released day and date on Wednesday, November 10 in theaters and on Paramount+. The film had been pulled from a September release date.
In one month, we’ll be gathering to celebrate the Top Women in Entertainment, Tech, and Sports at a dedicated in-person Awards Gala on October 27 in NYC.
