The second annual Tomorrow’s News survey by Reuters shows that news consumers are becoming more savvy, wary of sensationalism and are more likely to fact check their news with other providers. Among the 1,711 Reuters.com user respondents, 83% said they tend to trust well-known news brands and always check the accuracy of shared news from other sources—a 6% increase from the 2016 survey.
Real-time platform Smaato reports that Asia-Pacific countries, led by China, are at the forefront of mobile ad growth globally. The company’s analysis of 300 billion mobile ad impressions shows first-quarter ad spending nearly doubled year-over-year in China.
MoffettNathanson Research is projecting that U.S. advertising spend will rise 3.4% in 2017, to $197.3 billion. Its latest guidance is that all Internet advertising will grow 18.5% to $85.9 billion but that total TV advertising will be down 4.1% to $76.4 billion.
As Google is rumored to be contemplating an ad-blocking extension to Chrome, use of ad blockers may be leveling off in France, Germany and the U.K., according to eMarketer. While 43 million people use them in the three countries, new users are expected to drop from 8.8% in 2017 to 7.4% in 2018.

The board of directors at Tapad appointed Sigvart Voss Eriksen Chief Executive Officer, succeeding Are Traasdahl, who will transition to Chairman Emeritus, a senior advisory role. Eriksen had been Head of Advertising Technology at Tapad parent Telenor.
Apple marketing executive Bozoma Saint John is joining Uber as Chief Brand Officer. Before resigning last week, Saint John was Head of Global Consumer Marketing, iTunes and Beats Music.
David Peterson is the new Chief Technology Officer at PebblePost. He most recently was Senior Vice President of Technology at Rubicon Project.
