Meta filed a motion Friday requesting the dismissal of a Federal Trade Commission antitrust lawsuit that could require Meta to divest Instagram and/or WhatsApp. “Antitrust laws are supposed to promote competition and protect consumers, not punish companies for innovating to give people greater value and choice,” said chief legal officer Jennifer Newstead in a statement. “We will continue to vigorously defend our company and the ability of people and businesses to choose the great products we offer.

X is rolling out access to xAI’s Grok chatbot to Premium tier subscribers. The chatbot was made available to Premium+ users last year. Last week, Grok made news when a fake headline promoted on X said, “Iran Strikes Tel Aviv with Heavy Missiles.” The headline appears to have been generated by Grok, reported Mashable, and was then promoted by X’s news product, Explore.

Nielsen will make its combination of panel data and big-data measurement systems available to use as its preferred currency effective in September, the company announced last week. The big data, from 45 million households and 75 million devices, is combined with the 40,000 households participating in Nielsen’s panel to create the new ratings.

AT&T reset millions of customer account passcodes after data containing AT&T customer records was dumped online earlier this month, reported TechCrunch, which informed AT&T last Monday that the leaked data contained encrypted passcodes that could be used to access customer accounts. “AT&T has launched a robust investigation supported by internal and external cybersecurity experts. Based on our preliminary analysis, the data set appears to be from 2019 or earlier, impacting approximately 7.6 million current AT&T account holders and approximately 65.4 million former account holders,” said AT&T in a statement. “AT&T does not have evidence of unauthorized access to its systems resulting in exfiltration of the data set.”

OpenAI shared preliminary insights and results from a small-scale preview of Voice Engine. The model uses text input and a single 15-second audio sample to generate natural-sounding speech that closely resembles the original speaker. Examples of potential benefits include providing reading assistance to non-readers; translating content; reaching global communities by improving essential service delivery in remote settings; supporting people who are non-verbal; and helping patients recover their voice. That said, “We recognize that generating speech that resembles people’s voices has serious risks, which are especially top of mind in an election year,” said the company in a blog post. “We are engaging with US and international partners from across government, media, entertainment, education, civil society and beyond to ensure we are incorporating their feedback as we build.”

What goes up, must come down? Shares of newly formed Trump Media & Technology Group fell 49% last week, to $40.49 on Friday, the lowest level since the company went public. The drop followed the news that the company’s social media platform, Trump Social, lost over $58 million in 2023. Responding to comments like those of Barry Diller, who called Trump Media a “scam,” a Trump Media spokesperson put out a statement saying, “It is unsurprising to see die-hard Trump haters and leftwing flacks blow a gasket now that Truth Social has become a public company that, still today, refuses to suppress political expression that contradicts the narratives they want to enforce.” Despite last week’s loss, the stock is still up 130% for the year.

In a challenge brought by AT&T Services, Inc., BBB National Programs’ National Advertising Division determined that Cox Communications provided a reasonable basis for the claim that Cox Mobile provides “Unbeatable 5G Reliability” as well as other express claims about its host network and implied claims about third-party testing of Cox Mobile. The challenged “Unbeatable 5G Reliability” claims appeared in a 30-second television commercial and on the Cox Mobile website.

Samba TV unveiled new technology offering political advertisers next day precision ad targeting to better reach shifting voting audiences at the regional, state, and national level throughout the 2024 political season. Yahoo and TelevisaUnivision are two early adopters of the new solution, named Real Time Political Audiences. “This election cycle will be more challenging than ever to reach voters,” said National Media Research Chief Innovation Officer Adam Wise. “As we are well underway with the presidential campaigns, it is crucial to integrate a comprehensive understanding of your audience into your targeting strategy, merging trusted first-party sources such as Samba TV with other campaign inputs.”

Vizio has expanded its partnership with ad intelligence company AdImpact, licensing its proprietary ad catalog ahead of the upcoming political season. For political buyers, this will provide the ability to target under and over-exposed audiences, optimize reach and frequency across households, and extend CTV-first campaigns on VIZIO to additional devices, along with providing granular insight into ad exposure at the zip code and congressional district level, and provide a better understanding of the incremental reach of CTV vs Linear.

Microsoft is making updates to the bidding options available for native ads in the Microsoft Advertising Platform. On April 30, manual cost per click (CPC) bidding will no longer be available for newly created native campaigns. Starting on May 13, all existing image and feed campaigns on a manual CPC bid strategy will upgrade to enhanced CPC.

Wurl has partnered with IRIS.TV to make emotional data from its GenAI-based ad product Brand Discovery available for programmatic activation. Brand Discovery allows advertisers to align their ads with content in real time and coupled with IRIS.TV’s IRIS-enabled PMPs, gives buyers access to emotions-based Deal IDs to deliver CTV ads within its live news and sports content and VOD streaming inventory.

Captify and Magnite are partnering to enable advertisers to leverage on-site search intent data to address audiences on programmatic CTV ad inventory for the first time.
