Warner Bros. Discovery introduced Olli, its proprietary first-party data platform fusing data, audience intelligence and ad tech solutions. Olli powers WBD’s new, converged Data-Driven Video offering, which can identify one audience across all endpoints, and allows clients to exclude heavy linear TV viewers early in the planning process, and then redistribute the focus to balance the target audience across WBD’s linear and digital platforms.
“Our goal is to ensure that every connection between brand and audience is reached in the most efficient and effective way across our vast expanse of digital and traditional platforms,” said Ryan Gould, Head of Digital Ad Sales at WBD. “We’ve already seen early success with this offering, and we look forward to bringing it to the wider marketplace.” WBD is currently partnering with OMG, RPA and Wayfair, among others; IPG Mediabrands will begin testing in the third quarter.
Comcast topped analyst expectations for the quarter with total revenue up 1%, to $30.1 billion, and the Media division reporting revenue of $6.4 billion, up 4%. Peacock reached 34 million subscribers and delivered $1.1 billion in revenue, up 54% year-over-year. What’s the streaming strategy? “It’s sports, it’s originals, it’s next-day airing of NBC content, it’s our library and it’s our pay-1 movies,” said Comcast President Mike Cavanagh in a call with analysts, noting that while the second quarter will be a “little lighter” in content, “When we look to the middle of the year, we’ve got Olympics, right after that we’ve got the return of the NFL, the Big Ten and our exclusive NFL game in Sao Paolo, Brazil, along with a tremendous movie slate.”
Soo Kim is taking the FCC to court, accusing the commission of killing an $8.6 billion deal for his company, Standard General, to purchase Tegna, because of his race. Kim, a Korean American, won a public bidding auction to buy Tegna and its 60-plus television stations in 2022, but the FCC nixed the deal in favor of media tycoon Byron Allen, who is Black. “The FCC killed the deal… motivated by the belief that Mr. Allen’s black-owned company deserved greater solicitude than Mr. Kim’s Asian American-owned company,” reads the complaint, filed Wednesday in Washington, D.C. Kim is seeing punitive damages “to the fullest extent permitted by law.”
The CW has entered a multi-year partnership with the Miss USA Pageant and the Miss Teen USA Pageant after last year’s telecast of the Miss USA Pageant ranked as the network’s top new special of the year, and gave the pageant its strongest performance in three years. “We look forward to continuing the storied tradition of these pageants, refreshed with a modern sensibility, on The CW for the next three years,” said Heather Olander, CW Head of Unscripted Programming.
Total ad revenue at TelevisaUnivision increased 7% to $648 million, but in the US, ad revenue was flat year-over-year, and growth in streaming was offset by what the company said was “some softness” in its linear networks. Subscription and licensing revenue rose 9% to $473 million, with the US flat at $327 million. Growth in both the US and Mexico was driven by ViX’s premium tier.

Netflix ordered a Chuck Lorre comedy starring Leanne Morgan, as well as two stand-up specials from the comedian. The series, co-created by Morgan, Lorre and Susan McMartin, will follow a woman whose life is upended when her husband of 33 years leaves her for another woman. “If you’ve seen even ten seconds of Leanne Morgan’s stand up then you know what a unique comedic force she is,” said Lorre. “The theme of starting over is universal, and I cannot think of anyone better to combine heart and comedy than Leanne. I knew I had to work with her, and I’m so excited to bring this story to Netflix.”
Paramount+ renewed preschool series “Dora” for a second season. The CG-animated series is produced by Nickelodeon Animation.

GroupM has teamed with consumer-purchase behavior data provider NCSolutions to enable GroupM agencies and clients to plan, buy and optimize campaigns based on identifying new buyers explicitly. The deal, exclusive to GroupM through the end of 2024, will integrate the NCSolutions data within GroupM data management unit Choreograph.
The Interactive Advertising Board gave a thumbs up to a judge who forced the Federal Trade Commission to rethink its amendments to the Negative Options Rule, which would allow consumers to more easily cancel products or services they signed up for. “We thank Judge Carol Fox Foelak for hearing the evidence that the new rules would cost businesses a lot more than the FTC estimates,” said IAB’s EVP for Public Policy Lartease Tiffith. “In fact, the judge found that the FTC failed to properly analyze the potential effects of more fine print and one-size-fits-all mandates for different platforms and devices, which would ruin consumers’ online experience.”
Consumers were 5% more engaged with QSR ads on linear than streaming, according to a report from EDO focused on Convergent TV outcomes. The data also showed that 83% of QSR ad exposures were on linear, while 17% were on streaming. Other findings include:
– QSR brands that generated the biggest spikes in streaming ad effectiveness as compared to their own linear TV ad performance in Q1 include McDonald’s (+66% more effective on streaming as compared to McDonald’s average linear TV ad performance), Starbucks (+47% vs. Starbucks linear TV average), Chick-fil-A (+32%), Carl’s Jr. (+29%) and Zaxby’s Restaurant (+28%).
– TV viewers in Kansas were most engaged with QSR ads on Convergent TV. QSR ads in Kansas were 20% more effective as compared to the US average in Q1, followed by California (+18%), Tennessee (+17%), Arkansas (+9%), and Connecticut (+9%).
– Men 65+ were the most engaged demographic with QSR ads on both linear and streaming TV in Q1. The demo was +114% more likely to engage with streaming QSR ads in Q1 as compared to the QSR streaming average, and +35% more likely to engage with linear QSR ads as compared to the QSR linear average.
