|Megan Rapinoe is heading to hosting duties, signing on for Quibi’s new documentary series Prodigy (working title), profiling eight athletes age 21 or younger who are set to become the superstars in their respective sports. Rapinoe will provide on camera commentary and perspective on each of these stories and, from her own experience, offer insight into how these future stars can live up to the hype. The 2020 Prodigy Class includes: Jalen Green: #1 ranked high school basketball player in the country; Sha’Carri Richardson: fastest woman in NCAA track and field history; Red Gerard: youngest Winter Olympic Gold Medalist since 1928; Regan Smith: fastest woman in swimming history; Matthew Boling: fastest man in high school track and field history; Tyler Adams: member of the USMNT, one of the world’s most promising young soccer stars; Korey Foreman: #1 ranked high school football player in the country; Chantel Navarro: US Junior National Boxing Team member, 5-time National Champion. Quibi launches on April 6.
For the 16th year, NFL Network and NFL Digital Media serve up multi-platform coverage of the NFL Scouting Combine Presented by Verizon from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis starting today with more than 60 hours of live Combine week coverage this week. For the first time ever, NFL Network’s coverage of the Combine will extend into primetime, beginning Thursday, February 27 with seven hours of live coverage of the quarterbacks, wide receivers and tight ends starting at 4p. NFL Network and NFL Digital Media feature a 43-man roster of talent to cover the Combine, including NFL Draft experts Daniel Jeremiah, Charles Davis and Bucky Brooks. Host Rich Eisen anchors NFL Network’s coverage of the on-field workouts joined by Jeremiah in the booth at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Around the dial, ESPN’s NFL Scouting Combine coverage will see five days of shows from Indianapolis starting today. On-site plans include expanded two-hour editions of NFL Live on Feb. 27-28 and a one-hour ABC special during defensive linemen drills on Feb. 29. Additionally, ESPN will air one hour of quarterback workouts – also televised on NFL Network, on Feb. 27. Wendi Nix (Tue-Thu), Suzy Kolber (Fri) and Trey Wingo (Sat) will each host Combine-focused editions of NFL Live from Lucas Oil Stadium with NFL Draft analysts Mel Kiper Jr., Todd McShay and Louis Riddick, Senior NFL Insiders Chris Mortensen and Adam Schefter, NFL Front Office Insider Mike Tannenbaum and Senior Bowl Executive Director and NFL Draft analyst Jim Nagy.
The Minnesota Wild announced who they will play as part of the 2021 NHL Winter Classic, lining up the St. Louis Blues at Target Field for the event on Jan. 1. The game will mark the Wild’s first NHL Winter Classic game and their second outdoor game.
NBC Sports’ GOLFPASS debuted its new season of My Daily Routine, beginning with former World No. 1 golfer Dustin Johnson. Other personalities featured in the new season of My Daily Routine include golfers Jason Day, Gerina Piller and legend Gary Player; former U.S. Soccer National Team and MLS star Landon Donovan; and members of the American country music group Old Dominion. A new episode featuring GOLFPASS co-founder and current World No. 1 golfer Rory McIlroy also will debut in 2020.
July sees Sportsman Channel will introduce a new show in Adaptive Pursuits TV, presented by The North American Association of Blind Sportsmen, that will feature blind and visually-impaired hunters and fishers profiled across 13-episodes. “Adaptive Pursuits TV will be a show unlike any other on Sportsman Channel,” Outdoor Sportsman Group President and CEO, Jim Liberatore said. “Success in the outdoors – hunting and fishing – is difficult enough with all your senses. NBC Sports and the Premier League are heading to Philadelphia
for the next Premier League Mornings Live fan festival, on April 4-5. The event will take place at Dilworth Park, and features live action from nine Premier League fixtures across five match windows. Amazon reportedly expanded its slate of live tennis rights to over 80 tournaments from the ATP and WTA as well as the US Open, in the UK and Ireland, according to multiple reports. Prime Video will broadcast live, on-site coverage for the BNP Paribas Open, Indian Wells (March 11-22), Miami Open presented by Itaú (March 24- April 5), Mutua Madrid Open (May 2-10), and Western & Southern Open at Cincinnati (August 16-23), among others.
Navy Recruiting Command unveiled a multi-pronged gameplan
to launch an integrated esports campaign that will involve partnerships with Twitch, the Evil Geniuses, ESL, and DBLTAP, designed to “provide the Navy with authentic opportunities to more deeply engage with the gaming community” showcasing how Sailors rely on many of the same skills that gamers do, and to make Navy life “more relatable to Gen Zers.” The campaign kicked off this past weekend at DreamHack Anaheim with the Navy signing on as the first-ever presenting sponsor of the BYOC activation space, while the Navy’s esports team challenged event attendees to a variety of games. The Navy will partner with Twitch, the top live streaming service for esports, to reach millions of gamers and to create a campaign inclusive of digital media, custom content, event activations, and a strategic partnership with the Evil Geniuses to help select and train the Navy’s first CS:GO team. The Navy will partner with DBLTAP to develop Navy “Role Comparison” video content where DBLTAP editors partner with top players from high-ranking esports teams to compare different rates in the Navy with specific roles on an esports team.
The Overwatch League canceled its upcoming Seoul homestand as a result of the coronavirus outbreak in China. Matches were set to run in South Korea between Feb. 29 and March 22, including makeup matches that were moved to the country after homestands were previously cancelled in China due to the virus.
