Cynopsis: Kids!
10/03/12

Good morning. It’s Wednesday, October 3, 2012, and this is your first early morning briefing.

Canada-based Minds Eye Entertainment partners with Red Sky Entertainment and Moving Pictures Media to produce a live-action feature-length movie adaptation of 12-book young adult fantasy-adventure series Avalon: Web of Magic. Created by Robert Mandell and written by Rachel Roberts, the book series features four seemingly ordinary teens faced with extraordinary events happening in the woods behind their town. Fantastical animals, the last of their kind, have arrived looking for help to save their world from an evil sorceress. The teens bond with these animals and learn to become protectors of magic. Minds Eye Entertainment plans include producing several feature length films based on the Avalon: Web of Magic book series. Donald Petrie (Miss Congeniality, Grumpy Old Men, Richie Rich) will direct the movie from a screenplay by Mandell (Ace Ventura: Pet Detective The Series, Galaxy Rangers, Starla). Petrie’s agreement was negotiated by his agent David Gersh (Gersh LA) and Stephen Saltzman (Loeb and Leob) on behalf of the producing partners. Development financing partners are Saskfilm, Canadian-based Minds Eye Entertainment and UK-based Moving Pictures Media. Published by Tor/MacMillan Publishing Group, the book series has sold 2+ million copies to date and was recently adapted for eBooks on multiple eReader platforms by Premier Digital Publishing.

NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Nickelodeon begins production this month on its new original comedy/caper TV movie, Swindle, which will star a bevy of the network’s stars including Jennette McCurdy (iCarly), Noah Crawford (How to Rock, You Gotta See This), Noah Munck (iCarly), Ariana Grande (Victorious), Chris O’Neal (How to Rock, You Gotta See This) and Ciara Bravo (Big Time Rush). Based on the popular kids book of the same name by Gordon Korman, the movie will be shot in Vancouver Canada. The movie is set to begin airing in 2014 on Nickelodeon’s 40+ international channels across Europe, Latin America, Asia and Australia. The story begins when an evil collector cons Griffin (Crawford) out of a million dollar baseball card that could have saved his best friend’s (O’Neal) home, he teams a ragtag group of his classmates (Grande, McCurdy, Munck and Bravo) to take down the swindler. Directed by Jonathan Judge (Big Time Rush, Fred 3), Swindle is written by Bill Motz (Brandy & Mr. Whiskers) & Bob Roth (Lion King 2), Eric Freiser (Road to Ruin) and Adam Rifkin (Small Soliders, Mousehunt). Marjorie Cohn (Big Time Movie, Rags), Lauren Levine (Bridge to Terabithia, Best Player), Loris Lunsford, Karen Glass and Paul Barry serve as executive producers. Scott McAboy’s Pacific Bay Entertainment is producing.

Canada’s Radical Sheep Productions begins production on the new CG animated preschool series Yub Yubs as well as two new Stella and Sam holiday specials for Disney Junior Canada, all of which are slated to bow in 2013. Yub Yubs, created by Matt Fernandes of Industrial Brothers, stars three curious characters whose feelings are expressed by changing into other physical forms  and when they play together – magic happens. Radical Sheep will produce Stella and Sam Christmas and Halloween specials, each featuring an original music video. Radical Sheep Productions will attend Mipcom.
