Good morning. It’s Wednesday, October 17, 2012, and this is your first early morning briefing.

In the UK, BSkyB enters into a deal with Warner Bros. to offer exclusive access to all eight Harry Potter movies via its Sky Movies channel starting next month for three months. Sky Movies will be the sole UK TV service to have rights to the Harry Potter movies. During the window, the Harry Potter movies will be available in HD, each showing uncut and without commercials. The movies will also be available to Sky Movies customers On Demand via their Sky+HD box, as well as on the go on various internet-connected devices (e.g. iPhone, iPad, Android smartphones) through Sky’s multiplatform TV services Sky Go. The final movie in the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, will also be available on Sky 3D. The Harry Potter movies will also be available via the Sky Movies monthly pass on Now TV, an internet TV service powered by Sky.

LICENSING

Turner CN Enterprises (TCNE) inks a four-year, multi-territory licensing and merchandising deal for the boy-targeted CGI animated action/adventure series, Gormiti (52×22), for EMEA.  Gormiti is a co-production between Mondo TV and Giochi Preziosi. Under the agreement, TCNE will serve as the master licensing agent for EMEA (excluding Italy, San Marino, Vatican City and France), while Mondo TV Consumer Products will act as sub agent for Russia, Eastern Europe (excluding Yugoslavia) Greece, Spain and Portugal. Currently airing on Boing in Spain and Italy, Gormiti will make its full rollout across EMEA on Cartoon Network in 2013.

Warner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP) appoints Character Group as the UK master toy partner for Looney Tunes. Under the three-year deal Character will develop construction playsets and micro-figures under its Character Building banner. Furthermore, Character will also develop and manufacture a new collection of Looney Tunes “Motion Sensor Plush”, as well as an assortment of figures, playsets and traditional plush lines. WBCP and Character Group have a similar existing deal for Scooby-Doo.

Zodiak Kids enters into a licensing deal with UK-based Cooneen & Miserli to create nightwear and underwear based on Nick Jr.‘s preschool series Tickety Toc, including featuring the show’s comedic duo Tommy & Tallulah. Cooneen & Miserli plans to launch its new line of products in the UK and Ireland from fall/winter 2013. This new deal for Tickety Toc follows recent pacts wit Vivid Imaginations for the UK, US Master Toy Partner Just Play and US & UK DVD partner Anchor Bay Entertainment. Tickety Toc is produced by Zodiak Kids’ production company The Foundation, and Korea-based FunnyFlux Entertainment. Zodiak Kids holds all worldwide rights for Tickety Toc, excluding Korea and Japan.

FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME) signs a raft of new licensees in the UK and Ireland for its preschool series Tree Fu Tom, which can bee seen on CBeebies. The new round of licensing partnerships covers multiple categories including: Blues (daywear clothing); MV Sports (wheeled toys); Flair (arts & crafts); VMC (accessories and dress up); Gemma (greeting cards and party products); Ravensburger (puzzles); Egmont (annuals); and Rainbow Productions (character costumes). CBeebies recently ordered a second season of Tree Fu Tom for 2013. Featuring animation produced by Blue Zoo Animation, Tree Fu Tom is a co-production between FME and BBC for CBeebies. The series is distributed by FME. Jackie Edwards and Alison Stewart are executive producers on the series for the BBC, with Bob Higgins and Sander Schwartz executive producing for FME. Tree Fu Tom was created and produced by Daniel Bays.

Sanrio names CPLG Iberia as the licensing agent for the classic Mr Men and Little Miss brand across Spain and Portugal. Based on the Mr Men and Little Miss books created by Roger Hargreaves, CPLG Iberia plans to build a licensing program across Portugal and Spain targeted to both adults that grew up with the brand and kids that are discovering Mr Men and Little Miss for the first time. A new style guide, created by Sanrio Power House design team, will be available to Iberian licensees.

Rainbow, an Italian producer/distributor/licensor, finalizes a licensing partnership with US-based Jakks Pacific for the toy rights to the girl-targeted properties and animated TV comedy/adventure series PopPixie. Under the deal, which covers all English-speaking territories. Jakks Pacific plans to manufacture, distribute and market a line of toys, including dolls, figurines, dress sets and plush, based on the PopPixie animated series, which it will launch at retail in spring 2014. Airing in 25 countries across Europe, PopPixie has 115+ licensees already on board across key licensing categories including toys, publishing, back-to-school, home entertainment, apparel and Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG).

In other news, Rainbow‘s plan for its animated series Huntik: Secrets and Seekers include introducing a line of Huntik-themed games across multiple platforms, including console, PC, apps and online, in spring 2013. Additionally, Huntik will increase its international presence in 2013 with the launch of an English-language version Facebook page and also an official Huntik YouTube channel.

V&S Entertainment secures new licensing deals for its preschool series Everything’s Rosie in Portugal, where the TV series can be seen on Canal Panda. V&S extends its deal with Suma Licensing, which serves as its agent in Spain, to include representation of Everything’s Rosie in Portugal. Suma is charged with developing a licensing program in Portugal with licensees, who will launch their products lines across multiple categories through the end of this year and into 2013. V&S also extends its deal with toy distributor Giochi Preziosi, which working alongside Suma Licensing, will launch a capsule toy line for fall/winter 2012, followed by a larger line in 2013. Pris Video has also signed on to distribute the first series of Everything’s Rosie (26×11) in Portuguese on DVD from November 2012. Under the deal, Pris Video takes the rights for home entertainment, electronic sell through and download to own across Portugal and via all retail and online distribution channels.

Art ImpressionsSo So Happy property has been licensed to Jay Franco & Sons, which will launch a line of home decor products. The line will feature bedding (sheets, blankets), window coverings, area rugs, and pillows, including decorative cushions shaped like the So So Happy (www.sosohappyonline.com) characters. A line of bath products from Jay Franco will feature towels and washcloths as well as a full range of accessories, mats, and rugs. Beach towels and select room decor accessories are also in the works.

StinkyKids names ICM Partners, a talent and literary agency, as its exclusive agent in support of the StinkyKids (www.stinkykids.com) brand and characters and StinkyKids author/creator Britt Menzies.

MORE KIDS STUFF

In the UK, Penguin Children’s acquires global intellectual property rights for the new preschool humor and adventure property Ollie: The Boy Who Became What He Ate from creators Storycake. Under the deal Penguin Children’s will exploit the worldwide rights for the property including TV/film, digital and consumer products. Offering a unique twist on food, Ollie: The Boy Who Became What He Ate features a young boy named Ollie, who becomes what he eats. Ollie is a picky eater who is reluctant to try anything new but when he does, he transforms into that food and sets off on an adventure. Ollie: The Boy Who Became What He Ate was introduced last month in the UK in educational packs for early years institutions including schools, nurseries and local authorities. Penguin Children’s will publish a storybook app in Q1 2013, followed by picture and sticker books in 2014. Ollie: The Boy Who Became What He Ate will live under Penguin Children’s Ladybird imprint. The deal is the latest in a line of recent acquisitions that include Hattie B, Magical Vet; Whale Trail; Moshi Monsters and Skylanders for the Penguin Children’s Group. Penguin Children’s Group is comprised of five imprints, Ladybird, Warne, Sunbird, Puffin and Razorbill.

DreamWorks Animation SKG announces that beloved and celebrated soprano Renee Fleming performs the original song Still Dream on the soundtrack for its upcoming Rise of the Guardians. The movie features a score by four-time Academy Award nominated and Grammy Award winning composer Alexandre Desplat, who also wrote and produced Still Dream, with lyrics by the film’s screenwriter, Grammy Award nominee and Pulitzer Prize winning author, David Lindsay-Abaire. Varese Sarabande will release the soundtrack on November 13, 2012, just ahead of the movie’s nationwide release on November 21. The score for Rise of the Guardians was performed by the London Symphony Orchestra and features choral work by London Voices.

RATINGS

The Hub’s two-part premiere (back-to-back) of season three of R.L. Stine’s The Haunting Hour on Saturday, October 13 (6-7p), with Part Two (6:30p) delivering the best telecast in the series’ history among K2-11 224,000 and Total Viewers 2+ 461,000, an increase year-to-date in the time period by +136% and +133% respectively.
