On the heels of Netflix’s announcement of its first major acquisition, the streaming service has announced another major contender with original documentary The Short Square. The film, which follows top golfers under the age of seven, won an award at the 2013 South by Southwest festival. Netflix will start exclusively streaming the documentary on Dec. 12.


Comedy Central’s multi-platform digital component CC: Studios has greenlit six new series, and renewed three of its original series for a second season. The renewals are Bro-Dependent, This Is Not Happening and The Walsh Brothers’ Great & Secret Comedy Show. The first episode of This Is Not Happening’s second season premiered yesterday at

JetBlue and Delta are jumping on the Federal Aviation Administration’s latest policy change, which allows airline passengers to use electronics in airplane mode from gate-to-gate. Digiday reports that the two airlines have adopted the hash tag #below10kfeet to market the new rules to passengers and to encourage in-flight photo moments. Jet Blue fliers can submit their snaps to the So Fly section of their website, while Delta has created a photo contest for their customers.

Breaking News announced a major revamp to its mobile app and site that offers a more social perspective on the news. The app’s users can create their own newsfeed, and use features like Alert or Mute that sends push notifications or hides certain topics. Another new future, the button called Whoa!, can share news with others through social media, texts and email. “The data so far shows that quite a few stories are polarizing: some people are muting the same story that others are alerting,” the company’s General Manager Cory Bergman told Cynopsis. “It’s validation of our belief that one size doesn’t fit all with breaking news.”

Comcast’s XFinity TV Go app is now available for Apple and Android devices, and allows subscribers to stream live TV on any Wi-Fi network. Previously, the app would only allow users to stream live-TV from their home’s web connection. The app currently offers 35 live cable channels for streaming.

Adult Swim has launched the Adult Swim Bump Builder app, which gives viewers a chance to create a bumper for the network. The app also includes a synching feature that allows fans to open up exclusive polls, trivia or pilots only available through the app. It can be downloaded for free for Apple or Android devices.

The A+E Networks announced that its TV everywhere HISTORY channel app is now available to download on the Xbox 360. The console’s users can watch full series of shows like Pawn Stars, Ax Men or Modern Marvels after signing into their TV provider’s account.

A new digital broadcasting app, TVtalk, has just launched, hoping to rival Twitter as a second screen. The app offers TV commentary podcasts, and the ability for listeners to provide their own insights on episodes. IHeartRadio will also feature TVtalk podcasts in one-minute segments leading up to the IHeartRadio’s Daily Pulse program. The app is available for free on Apple and Android devices.


Multi-platform studio Vuguru has hired Lauren Corrao as its Chief Creative Officer. Corrao was previously the President of Comedy Central’s Original Programming and Head of Development.

Comcast has hired Sue Vaccaro as its new Senior Director of Government Affairs in California. In the new position, she will oversee Comcast’s government affairs and telecommunications policy throughout the state. She previously worked in a government relations role at Republic Services Incorporated.

Multi-platform entertainment analytics firm Mediamorph announced it has named Holly Knill as the company’s new International Managing Director. Before Mediamorph, Knill worked for BSkyB.

The Weather Company has hired Jeremy Hiavacek as the new Vice President of Programmatic. He previously was Varick Media Management’s Vice President of Strategy and Business Operations.
