NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Marblemedia is set to produce Splatalot (26 episodes), a new tween-targeted medieval-themed physical humorous game show for YTV (Canada), BBC (UK) and ABC (Australia), in Toronto this summer for a spring 2011 delivery.  Three versions of the series with two different hosts will be shot and customized simultaneously, one for each broadcaster.  Each episode of the three round game begins with 12 teen contestants, known as Attackers, as they make their way through medieval style challenge rounds (Cross the Moat, Storm the Castle, and Steal the Crown), while a group of six gladiators work to protect the castle from the teens, the last of which will be crowned the winner.  Additionally, marblemedia is developing an interactive online environment that will feature a series of flash games.  The newly launched Distribution360 will handle international distribution of Splatalot.

Warner Premiere is developing a live-action digital series based on Alloy Entertainment‘s young adult book series The Clique, which was written by Lisi Harrison.  The new series will feature new characters and will be penned by actress/writer/producer Justine Bateman (Easy to Assemble, Wizards of Waverly Place) and her FM 78.tv partner Jill Kushner (Ellen: The Ellen DeGeneres Show).  Peter Murrieta, also a FM78.tv partner (Wizards of Waverly Place) will serve as Executive Producer.  The series is being produced in association with Alloy Entertainment with Alloy’s Leslie Morgenstein and Bob Levy also serving as Executive Producers.  Morgenstein and Levy also produced 2009’s The Clique direct-to-DVD movie.  The Clique will be available through online digital retailers and is being distributed by Warner Bros. Digital Distribution.

MORE KIDS STUFF

CBeebies en Espanol is set to launch two new preschool series in the US Hispanic market, Nina y las Neuronas (Nina and the Neurons) on June 21, and El Mundo Magico de Garth y Bev (Garth & Bev) on June 28.  This month the channel also debuted the second season of La Gran Granja (Big Barn Farm), the mixed live-action/animated series that follows the day-to-day adventures of farm animals.

  • Nina y las Neuronas – the series revolves around Nina, a neuroscientist, as she enlists the help of the Neurons (five animated characters representing the senses) in her brain to help answer questions that are posed by kids in each episode.  To answer these questions, Nina visits the big version of the invention (e.g. lighthouses, helicopters), and then back in the lab, the kids build their version of the object.
  • Garth y Bev – set in the Bronze age, the show follows the adventures of the brother/sister team of Garth and Bev as they travel through time in search of new discoveries throughout history and answers to their many questions.

Playhouse Disney will launch the second season of its short-form preschool series Tasty Time with Zefronk, on Monday, July 19 at 9:25, followed by new episodes all that week, on Disney Channel.  The week will conclude with a new health-themed episode of the series Imagination Movers, on Saturday, July 24 at 10a.  Beginning July 6, PlayhouseDisney.com ( www.playhousedisney.com ) will feature all of ZeFronk’s recipes, which are simple creations that kids can make with their parents/caregivers at home.  On the site kids can also create personalized recipe books.

DQ Entertainment (DQE) enters into an exclusive broadcast deal with India’s Sun TV Network for its animated programming content.  Under the deal DQE will provide Sun TV with 117×30 kid-targeted animated series, which it has co-produced with a range of partners, including the 3D animated series Casper’s Scare School (52 episodes), and Benjamin Bear (13 episodes), Leonardo (26 episodes) and Pet Pals (65 episodes).  For its part Sun TV has the rights to broadcast the shows in four languages including Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam across India, Sri Lanka and a range of other countries.  DQE retains the exclusive audio, visual and licensing and merchandising rights to the series across all Sun TV viewing territories.
