Cynopsis: Kids!
12/08/10

Good morning. It’s Wednesday, December 8, 2010, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

Sesame Workshop, in partnership with and funding from UnitedHealthcare and The Merck Company Foundation, begins rolling out its new bilingual (English-Spanish) outreach program, Food for Thought: Eating Well on a Budget ( www.sesamestreet.org/food), as part of its Healthy Habits for Life ( www.sesameworkshop.org/healthyhabits ) initiative.  The multimedia outreach effort is designed to educate families with K2-8, and with limited access to affordable and nutritious foods, to provide balanced and healthy meals for their kids and families.  The educational outreach kit includes an original video featuring the debut of four new Sesame Street Muppets, the “Super Foods, as well as Elmo and friends, along with real families as they try new foods, learn about the importance of healthy snacks, and that eating a meal together is a good way for families to connect. There is also a special section for parents and caregivers that speaks to the social and emotional issues related to food insecurity, and a segment with chef Art Smith demonstrating how to stretch a meal and shop locally while saving money. Additionally, the new Muppet story featured in the outreach kit will air on Sesame Street on PBS today, December 8, (check local listings).
