Google has launched an updated version of its Chrome Web Store, designed to serve as an applications storefront for its Chrome browser and Chrome OS, which will power an upcoming line of Chrome and netbooks (see above). The New York Times, Electronic Arts, NPR, PBS, Sports Illustrated and Amazon (which has both a storefront app and a Kindle app) are just some of the publishers that have developed apps for the store in the U.S. Chrome has not had much success in gaining market share in the ultra competitive browser market to date (holding at under 7% through Nov. according to Stat Owl,) but building out the browser for connected devices could give it a tremendous boost.
