Good morning. It’s Wednesday, December 5, 2012, and this is your first early morning briefing.
Netflix inks a multiyear premium pay TV window license deal with The Walt Disney Studio for the US making Netflix the exclusive US subscription TV services for first-run live-action and animated movies from Disney, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Marvel Studios and Disneynature movie titles. Starting with its 2016 new theatrically released Disney feature films will be available for Netflix members to watch instantly in the pay TV window across multiple platforms (TV, tablets, computers, mobile phones). Also included under the deal are select Disney direct-to-video new releases, which will be made available on Netflix from 2013. Disney currently has a deal in place with Starz for its movies, which runs through 2015. Additionally, Disney and Netflix have agreed to a multi-year catalog deal that allows US Netflix members to watch classic Disney movies such as Dumbo, Pocahontas and Alice in Wonderland. The financial terms of these agreements were not made public.
