Cynopsis: Kids!

Good morning. It’s Wednesday, August 3, 2011, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

The Weinstein Company (TWC) and Rainmaker Entertainment unveil the voice cast for its new family-targeted 3D animated comedy Escape From Planet Earth includes Brendan Fraser, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jessica Alba, Rob Corddry, James Gandolfini and Craig Robinson.  Currently in production and set for release in the US in 2012, Escape From Planet Earth is directed by Cal Brunker (Despicable Me, 9, Horton Hears A Who!).  Brunker also wrote the film with Bob Barlen, which is based on an original screenplay by Tony Leech and Cory Edwards.  Donna Gigliotti, TWC’s President/Production, and Catherine Winder, President and Executive Producer, Rainmaker Entertainment will both serve as producers on the movie, along with Rainmaker’s Luke Carroll.  TWC Co-Chairmen Bob and Harvey Weinstein are executive producers.


Temple Street Productions and Astral’s Family Channel (Canada) announce production has begun on the third season of the teen-targeted live-action comedy Wingin’ It.  Season three includes 10 new episodes, which will feature a number of special guest appearances.  Joining the cast this season are Hannah Lochner (Life with Derek), Brian Alexander White and Sebastian Hearn, as well as Jenn Robertson (Twitches, The Sean Cullen Show and Comedy Inc.) as Carl’s mom, and Jamie Bloch (Flirty with Forty, The Best Years) as his little sister.  Additionally, Entertainment One is set to release the full first season of Wingin’ It on DVD in Canada on August 9, 2011.  Wingin’ It is produced by Temple Street Productions. The series was created by Frank van Keeken (The Kids in the Hall, Billable Hours), who also serves as an executive producer on the series along with Ivan Schneeberg and David Fortier (Being Erica, Billable Hours, Canada’s Next Top Model).

9 Story Entertainment‘s animated series Almost Naked Animals (40×22) has been acquired by Disney Channels in Italy, India, and Latin America, as well as Luk International (Spain and Portugal), and NPO’s kid’s channel Z@pp/Zeppelin (Netherlands).  Almost Naked Animals is produced and distributed by 9 Story.  The series debuted earlier this year on YTV (Canada), and then rolled out on CiTV (UK), ABC Australia, and Cartoon Network (US), and is set to debut this fall on Canal+ (France) and Super RTL (Germany).

In Canada, Disney Junior will host Yo Ho, Let’s Go Summer Week, August 15-19, during which the network will air two back-to-back episodes each evening of the animated series Jake and the Never Land Pirates, from 5p.  The programming event will include a new episode that features the debut of the new Pirate Princess character, who is voiced by Tori Spelling.  The new Pirate Princess episode and others will be available on Disney Junior OnDemand in a special Yo Ho, Let’s Go! folder beginning Friday, August 19.  Additionally, fans can go to ( ), where there are new Never Land Pirates games, activities and show clips.

Little Airplane Productions is offering limited enrollment in a unique workshop taught by accomplished preschool TV veterans on every step of creating an animated/live action preschool series from Pitching through Consumer Products and everything in-between. The workshop also features a panel of noteworthy children’s television broadcasters offering tips on pitching to a network.

Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products and Rovio Mobile team for a line of co-branded Angry Birds Rio plush toys, based on the 3D animated feature film Rio and the Angry Birds game.  The plush line, which features 5 and 8-inch plush with sounds from the Angry Birds Rio app, is developed in partnership with Rovio’s primary toy partner Commonwealth Toys, and will be available exclusively at Toys”R”Us stores from mid-August.  This week also marks Fox Home Entertainment’s release of Rio on Blu-Ray and DVD.  Included in the Blu-Ray and DVD release, Fox Digital and Rovio offers a clue that grants fans access to 15 new levels of the Angry Birds Rio app.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment launches the new preschool-targeted video game Sesame Street: Ready, Set, Grover! for the Wii and Nintendo DS.  Developed by Griptonite Games, The game encourages preschoolers to develop healthy habits as they play along with Sesame Street characters.  In Sesame Street: Ready, Set, Grover!, accessibility for preschoolers is enhanced with Grover-themed game-play helpers, available for both systems. On Wii, the game-play helper is a furry character cover with special grips that slips over the Wii remote in order to cover unnecessary buttons and make it easier for little hands to hold.  For Nintendo DS, there is a jumbo click stylus designed for smaller hands, which is designed to simplify interaction with the touch screen.

Disney Interactive Studios releases the new game Phineas and Ferb: Across the Second Dimension for Wii, Nintendo DS, and PlayStation 3.  The title is based on Disney Channel‘s animated series Phineas and Ferb and compliments the new original movie Phineas and Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension, which makes its debut in North America this Friday, August 5 at 8p on the network.  The PlayStation 3 and Wii versions of the game let the users play as one of ten different characters as they make their way through seven different worlds and 25 levels.  The PlayStation 3 game also features four episodes of the series, the first Sony disc to offer both a game and episodes.  The Nintendo DS version of the game lets fans play as Phineas, Ferb or Agent P as they travel through five worlds and 30 levels.  The Wii and PlayStation 3 versions are rated E 10+, with the Nintendo DS version rated E for Everyone.
