Good morning. It’s Wednesday, August 15, 2012, and this your first early morning briefing.

The Advertising Council has set out to help parents/caregivers get their kids to brush their teeth at least twice a day, and they are hoping they can achieve this by making the activity more fun by providing kids with something to watch while brushing. The Ad Council is teaming up with The Partnership for Healthy Mouths, Healthy Lives, a group of 35+ dental health organizations, to launch Kids’ Healthy Mouths, a national multimedia public service campaign in English and Spanish. The PSA campaign media partners include Sesame Street, DreamWorks Animation, Cartoon Network, MyKazoo! The PSAs, which focus on the idea that it only takes two minutes (twice a day) to brush your teeth well, direct adults to the new website, www.2min2x.org (also available in English and Spanish and there’s a mobile version too), where families can watch videos and listen to music that run for 2-minutes  during which time they can brush their teeth. Cartoon Network and MyKazoo are donating video clips and songs for the site. One of the PSAs features Sesame Street’s Elmo singing to kids and reminding them to brush as part of Sesame Street’s Healthy Teeth, Healthy me campaign, while another PSA features “Tooth” the Tooth Fairy from Rise of the Guardians, the upcoming film from DreamWorks Animation. The Kids’ Healthy Mouths public service campaign was created pro bono by ad agencies Grey Group and Wing in New York.

NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Hope you are sitting down – it’s a shocker, I know, two more cast members announced for Lionsgate‘s second Hunger Games movie, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Maria Howell (The Color Purple, The Blind Side, and the upcoming NBC TV series Revolution) is cast as Seeder, a former victor from District 11, and Stephanie Leigh Schlund (Drop Dead Diva, The Last Song, and the upcoming Fox series The Following) has been tapped to play Cashmere, a former Career tribute from District 1, and sister of Gloss (who is also competing in the Games). Seeder, Cashmere, and Gloss (previously announced will be played by Alan Ritchson), will all compete in the Quarter Quell (aka the 75th Annual Hunger Games). The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will release November 22, 2013.

LICENSING

Cartoon Network Enterprises (CNE) scares up an exclusive yearlong partnership with retailer Spirit Halloween for a line of costumes based on two of Cartoon Network’s most popular series, Adventure Time and The Powerpuff Girls. The line of exclusive costumes are currently available for preorder online at SpiritHalloween.com (www.spirithalloween.com) and will be available in retail stores beginning this September 2012. The Adventure Time line will feature costumes based on Finn, Jake, Princess Bubblegum, Ice King and Fionna (various sizes), while The Powerpuff Girls costumes include Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup styling’s for adults.

Ravensburger, a toy and game company, will showcase a range of new products at the Fall Toy Preview this October at the Dallas Market Center. Among the products Ravensburger will feature are its newest licensed products, including 3D and regular puzzles for kids and families, based on properties such as Tinga Tinga Tales, Moshi Monsters and The Hobbit, as well as the 3D puzzle replica of London’s Tower Bridge. In addition, Ravensburger is adding two new WOW toys to the line of imagination-inspiring toys that are designed for kids 18 months to 5 years, including Fire Rescue Rory (a 4-pc rescue set featuring the friction powered Rory the Helicopter) and Fire Buggy Bertie (a 3-pc set including Bert the ATV Rescue Vehicle).

MORE KIDS STUFF

Disney Channel and Sprint Nextel team to launch Disney Junior ID, which features Disney Junior content loaded on select Sprint smartphones, launches this week. Parents can select the Disney Junior ID pack from the Sprint ID library, which features 45 different ID pack offerings, and the phone will automatically download apps, widgets and wallpapers from various Disney Junior and related content for preschoolers. The Disney Junior ID pack is free to download for Sprint users with an Everything Data plan. Kids can watch a full episodes on-demand episodes of shows such as Jake and the Never Land Pirates, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Doc McStuffins, play games, and parents can get tips and ideas via the Disney Junior Facebook pages feed that is available via the new ID pack.

Hasbro Studios, the production and distribution division of Hasbro, is packing its bags for Mipcom this October where it will showcase two of its new animated kid’s series, the action/adventure series Kaijudo: Rise of the Duel Masters (52×30) and its playful fantasy series Littlest Pet Shop.

The first Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom app debuts in the UK. P2 Games launches the first official app, Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom  Big Star Fun, based on the preschool animated series, for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. The new app invites players to explore and interact with characters from Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom, while also playing four different games and win stickers that can be used in four different scenes. Playing as Princess Holly or as Ben Elf riding on Gaston the Ladybird, fans can play the games Collecting Star, Throwing Sticks, Hiding, and Sweeping Leaves.

Two new Moshi Monsters mobile games, Moshi Monsters Village and Moshi Monsters: Lost Island, set for release this fall 2012 from Mind Candy, creators of Moshi Monsters, and mobile social gaming company, GREE. Moshi Monsters Village is a 3D style game that lets players design their own town in Pawberry Fields, and also takes fans on a quest to rescue Moshlings captured by Dr. Strangeglove by playing various mini games. Moshi Monsters: Lost Islands is a new card collection and puzzle game  players can combine cards, build best decks corresponding to various situations and play puzzle style mini games, as well as collect Moshlings cards and Moshi characters while exploring uncharted regions and discover new islands.

Vivendi Entertainment will release The Garfield Show: Holiday Extravaganza on DVD this September 4, 2012. The new DVD title is comprised of six new holiday (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas) themed episodes of Garfield.

Disney Channel‘s Night of Premieres on Friday, August 10, 2012 (9-11p) was the top TV network of the evening with K2-11 (1.89 million), K6-11 (1.54 million) and Tweens 9-14 (1.27 million). The primetime lineup earned series highs for Gravity Falls (9p) among K2-11 (2.59 million), K6-11 (2.11 million) and Tweens 9-14 (1.69 million), as well as for Code 9 (9:30p) with K2-11 (2.12 million), K6-11 (1.76 million) and Tweens 9-14 (1.52 million).

Cartoon Network‘s Monday night comedy line-up (7-9p) on Monday, August 6, 2012 was the top basic cable network for the evening among K2-11, Boys 2-11, K6-11 and Tweens 9-14.
