Good Morning, it’s Tuesday, September 18, 2007 and this is your first early morning digital briefing. 

Time Warner is packing up and moving the AOL corporate headquarters from Dulles, VA to the Big Apple to be closer to the Mad Men of Madison Avenue. The 770 Broadway building in Manhattan will be its new home, which also houses offices for Viacom and Nielsen business magazines. The move is part of a plan to combine AOL’s various recently acquired ad businesses (including behavioral targeting firm Tacoda, mobile ad specialist Third Screen Media and video ad platform Lightningcast) into a new unit called Platform A. AOL also announced it is expanding its relationship with HP, offering co-branded, localized versions of its portal, toolbar and search engine on HP desktops and notebooks worldwide. The portal will become the default homepage for all HP PCs.
 

~ MULTIPLATFORM CONTENT NEWS ~

 
MTV Films has turned to YouTube to find its next box office stars. Mike O’Connell and Ken Jeong, the “Million Dollar Strong” duo from the mock music video What’s It Gonna Be?, have signed on to star in a MTV comedy feature, reports Variety. The story will revolve around the characters they play in the viral video – a white rapper and his Asian exchange student buddy – from a script written by O’Connell and Peter Kline.
 
Al Gore accepted a Creative Achievement in Interactive Television Emmy on behalf of a generation who “wants to be in control of its media” for user generated content-focused Current TV on Sunday night. Current has clawed its way into 50 million homes since launching and has been way ahead of the interactivity and citizen journalist curves. Congrats guys!
 
Airborne Entertainment has developed a new casual mobile game to commemorate the 10th season and the upcoming 100th episode of Fox’s Family Guy. Look for it later this month on the comprehensive familyguymobile.com site.
 

~ INNOVATORS & START-UPS ~
 

Joost partnered with Ripe Digital Entertainment to add RipeTV, OctaneTV and FlowTV to its P2P internet TV service, according to Adweek. Look for shows such as RipeTV’s Stuff 4 Dudes, OctaneTV’s Hot Import Nights and FlowTV’s FLOWilicious.
 
Comcast
acquired Seattle-based TV fans site Buddy TV, according to paidcontent.org. The site, which features news, forums, listings and community features for TV fanatics, received $2.8 million in funding from Gemstar-TV Guide this past summer.  Buddy TV declined to comment on the report.
 
SpiralFrog launched a new service allowing users to download free music files in exchange for watching ads on the site. Its business model shares targeted ad revenue with artists who offer up their work. The Windows-only site has amassed a library of more than 800,000 songs and 3,500 music videos so far.
 
Indie filmmaker David Wain signed on to produce a second season of his Wainy Days series for online entertainment start-up My Damn Channel. Jonah Hill from Superbad, Jennifer Westfeldt from Kissing Jessica Stein and Rob Corddry from The Daily Show will guest star in this season’s final three episodes.
 

~ TECHNOLOGY DEALS, MERGERS AND SKIRMISHES ~

 
An EU court rejected Microsoft‘s appeal of the antitrust case the company ended up on the wrong side of in 2004, upholding $689 million in fines levied against the software giant. Microsoft was found to have abused its position by bundling the Windows Media Player inside of its Windows operating system and refusing to share interoperability data with server manufacturers. Microsoft may be unable to ship Explorer and Windows Media applications with future EU Windows products.
 
Hearst paid around $100 million in cash for the consumer health site RealAge.com, according to The New York Times. The site is built around a user survey that considers more than 100 health related issues to determine their “real age.” The site attracts about 2.1 million uniques a month and has annual revenue of about $20 million, according to Hearst.
 

~ DIGITAL ADVERTISING ~

 
Slovenia-based OpenAd.net, an online marketplace for buying and selling creative, is getting ready to expand to the U.S. according to AdAge. Marketers like Gillette are invented to pitch ideas to the network’s more than 9,000 creative executives before choosing the campaign they like best. Executives worry it could offer another cheap alternative to the global agency model.
 

~ TRENDS, RESEARCH, ETC.  ~

 
TNT’s The Closer occupied the top 5 spots in Tivo‘s latest Stop||Watch DVR ratings, ranking Tivo users’ most watched shows. The show topped out with a 10.4 rating on July 23, the first time a cable network made the top ten but far below the 25.6 ratings of the highest-rated show during the May ratings period. Amazingly Tivo favorite Studio 60 remained in the top 10 when it finished its single season run on June 28.
 

~ EXECUTIVE MOVES ~
 

Former Tacoda CEO Curtis Viebranz has been named EVP and President of Platform A for AOL, reporting to AOL President and COO Ron Grant. Reporting to Curtis will be Lynda Clarizio who will continue to oversee Advertising.com, and Kathy Kayse who will run AOL brand solutions, focusing on custom solutions for advertisers.

TechCrunch40.com is the official website of this week’s TechCrunch40 new media conference hosted by the web 2.0 TechCrunch blog and venture capitalist Jason Calacanis. Besides covering the conference exhaustively, the site gives visitors a more intimate look at the 40 startups handpicked to exhibit (for free) at the show. Given the respect TechCrunch editor Michael Arrington and his cohorts are accorded in Silicon Valley, there just may be some future stars in this group of startups. The site also offers some cool social features such as the ability to rate the 40 new companies’ presentations. Attendees can even vote using their cell phones!
