HuffPost Live is extending its daily live streaming hours from the regular 12 to 14 (10am to 12 midnight EST) during the Republican and Democratic national conventions. The extended coverage is due to the streaming news network’s plans to focus on its Shadow Conventions programming initiative and to provide news and updates from the political conventions.

Video services provider Avail-TVN has partnered with C-SPAN to make top moments from this year’s presidential campaign available on demand. Dubbed C-SPAN Campaign 2012, the free on-demand service plans to offer key Obama and Romney campaign speeches leading up to Election Day, as well as full convention coverage over the next two weeks, and coverage of the presidential and vice-presidential debates.

As part of Style Media‘s planned coverage of the upcoming Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, which runs from September 6 through September 14, myStyle.com will feature a regular dose of video streams of various runway shows, blogs, expert commentary, and other multimedia content. Other aspects of the website’s coverage include a regularly updated Tout feed, which will provide 15-second videos shot by the myStyle team, a Twitter feed, and an Instagram feed, among other things.

The Television Academy is reporting that The Fall Season Preview: The Critic’s Picks, a panel featuring a variety of TV critics from the likes of Variety, USA Today, and TV Guide discussing the fall television slate, garnered 3,500 views on Emmys.com, on which it was streamed live. This makes the stream the most-watched live stream of a “Television Academy Member Activity.” The stream is still available on Emmys.com as it’s an element of a larger initiative from the Television Academy to offer live and recorded video content of its events, conferences, and activities.

AT&T AdWorks plans to launch AT&T AdWorks ReflectionSM in mid-September. The new platform uses an algorithm developed by AT&T Labs that allows brands to target audiences online based on aggregate demographic data from TV shows watched as well as from mobile content usage, which includes downloaded apps, games, and videos. This is all first-party data as AT&T AdWorks uses information culled from more than 10 million U-verse digital TV receivers and over 69 million “postpaid” AT&T mobile subscribers. Using AT&T AdWorks’ Online Audience Network, the advertiser can then deliver messaging from TV and mobile to online audiences using the same TV creative for online video in a variety of ad formats, according to the company.

The New York Times Company has agreed to sell the About Group, which operates online content site About.com, to IAC for $300 million in cash. The deal is expected to close in the next several weeks. The Times, which acquired the About Group in 2005 for over $400 million, says it plans to use the case toward “general corporate purposes.” AllThingsD reported earlier this month that The New York Times was close to selling the site to Answers.com for $270 million. Of course, this was before Barry Diller and IAC got involved.

There were over 640 million iOS and Android devices in use across the globe during July 2012, according to an estimate from Flurry. Diving deeper, the mobile app analytics company finds that the US and China were the top two countries in terms of the most active iOS and Android devices, with China closing the app on the US when compared to data from July 2011. Year-over-year, Flurry says net active devices in the US grew by approximately 30 million, while China witnessed more than 100 million new active devices entering the market over the same time period. Additionally, in July 2012, the US accounted for 36% of active app sessions, the same percentage as the rest of the top 10 global markets. In July 2011, the US was responsible for 52% of global app sessions, while the rest of the top 10 had accounted for 27%. Overall, and this might be the most eye-opening thing from the company’s report, Peter Farago, VP/Marketing, Flurry, says the rate of iOS and Android adoption has surpassed that of any consumer technology in history (10X faster than PCs in 1980s, 3X faster than social networks in recent times). Flurry’s data is based on active devices on which apps are running, which it notes may lead to slightly different results when stacked up against hardware sales reported by OEMs.

VH1‘s Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta was the most social TV show (excluding sports) of the summer, according to data from Trendrr.TV. On average, the show generated 555,517 social interactions per episode, which are over 200,000 more than the second-most social summer series. Females were responsible for 67% of all social interactions related to the show.

Facebook and CNN‘s long-running partnership continues with the launch of Facebook-CNN Election Insights. It’s a new social tool that allows users to gauge the volume of Facebook activity surrounding the election and each of the candidates in real time. Users can see Facebook user trends based on geography, and then break that data down even further to see who is talking about which candidates in which states based on other demographics like gender and/or age group. CNN plans to fold the tool into its broadcast coverage of the election, including regular segments on The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, as well as include it in its coverage on CNN.com and CNN Mobile. Facebook-CNN Election Insights was designed and developed by Mass Relevance, a social curation and integration technology company.

The new ESPN College Football app is now available for free in the Apple App Store and Google Play. The companion app will offer the latest video highlights (within a minute of it happening on the field) of “key plays from select games,” customizable scorecards, and access to live games through the sports network’s WatchESPN service. Other features include alerts for all 124 FBS teams and year-round coverage of the college football landscape, including news and videos from ESPN’s team of analysts as well as clips from College GameDay, College Football Live, and ESPNU, among others.

On the heels of winning its patent infringement case against Samsung, Apple is now requesting a ban on at least eight Samsung devices, including several Galaxy S II devices, in the United States.

24/7 Media, WPP’s marketing technology company, has announced a slew of executive changes, including the appointment of Nicolle Pangis as President/Real Media Group and Irene Bondar in the newly created role of EVP/Global Client Operations for 24/7 Media. Pangis will be responsible for technology sales, publisher services, and media strategy. Bondar will oversee the company’s platform service centers as well as global ad operations. In addition, the company has named Gary Lee as its new Chief Financial Officer. He joins 24/7 Media after most recently running his own consulting company, Ad Money, which worked with the 4As and ANA. All new roles are effective immediately.

Hearst Digital Media (HDM) has promoted Geoff Schiller, formerly the company’s National Sales Director, to the newly created role of Chief Sales Officer, effective immediately. In the role, Schiller will continue to work with his team of 11 national sales representatives to monetize the HDM portfolio, which spans 28 websites and 14 mobile sites.

Carolyn Bekkedahl has been named the SVP/Digital Sales of Meredith Corporation, effective mid-September. She will oversee all of Meredith’s digital sales operations across AllRecipes.com and the Meredith Women’s Network. Based in the company’s NY offices, she will report to Dick Porter, President/Media Sales for the Meredith National Media Group.

Evolve Media Corp.’s male lifestyle site CraveOnline has hired Drew Berkowitz to be its new SVP/Sales. Based in NY, he will be responsible for leading the sales efforts of Crave’s East Coast, Midwestern, and West Coast sales teams and creating campaigns for brands who want to reach the site’s male audience.

Jon Phillips has been named Editor in Chief/PCWorld by IDG Consumer & SMB, which publishes PCWorld, Macworld, and TechHive. He will report to Jason Snell, who was recently named SVP and Editorial Director for all three of the aforementioned IDG Consumer & SMB media brands. PCWorld plans to relaunch next month with a new design that will be optimized for multiple screens, including desktop, tablet, and mobile.

~ WEBSITE OF THE DAY ~

MTV has launched Fantasy Election ’12, which allows users to draft a team of political candidates, pursuing the presidency or a seat in Congress, and earn/lose points based on how said candidates perform in the real world. For the game, MTV has partnered with BuzzFeed and Politico to implement a custom “Fantasy Election ’12” button on each website’s political coverage. Players who read or watch stories on either site will earn bonus points. Other ways to earn additional points include checking into on-air political debates or in-person town hall events via Foursquare and GetGlue. And if the idea of duking it out on the political gridiron isn’t exciting enough for you, MTV is giving away a slew of prizes, ranging from iTunes gift cards and discounts on Amazon.com to bigger things like big screen TVs, home theatre systems, Lenovo IdeaPad Ultrabook laptops, and/or $10,000 in cash. The grand prize will gift some lucky voter a “Fantasy VMA Weekend,” which includes a trip for four to next year’s Video Music Awards and a $25,000 cash prize.
