Poptropica‘s, a virtual world for kids, book imprint is set to publish four new kid-targeted Poptropica books (www.poptropica.com/books) today, while Ubisoft also releases a new Poptropica video game. Featuring some of the most popular Poptropica storylines and games, the new Poptropica book titles include the illustrated novels Skullduggery Island (for K5-8, kids/parents can read a sample from the book at www.funbrain.com/books/skullduggeryisland/book.html) and Astro-Knights Island (K6-8), as well as the full-color doodle and activity book Pencil Warrior (K6-8) and Poptropica Mad Libs (K8-12). Ubisoft released Poptropica Adventures for the Nintendo DS, which is rated “E” for Everyone. In Poptropica Adventures, the Poptropica museum is in ruins and needs help. Players can explore three Islands and find missing artifacts to help restore the museum as they meet interesting characters, collect artifacts, solve puzzles and play mini-games along the way. Players can also customize their avatars with new clothes, hats, hairstyles and the like.

LICENSING

The Joy Tashjian Marketing Group (JTMG) has been named as exclusive licensing agent for the t-shirt brand, Ohiya (a variation on the greeting ‘Hi!’). Created by Ohio artist/illustrator Tharp as series of sketches, he then teamed with Ohio-based apparel manufacturer Ripple Junction to produce Ohiya t-shirts (www.ohiyafriends.com). Featuring a collection of cute and sometimes crass characters, Ohiya is described as a place “magical place where the simple act of saying ‘Hi’ is more than just a friendly greeting, it’s a way of life.” JTMG plans to launch Ohiya into product categories including as fashion and costumes, interactive games, publishing, toys, plush, stickers and art supplies, calendars and electronics. Tharp has worked in lifestyle and retail design, doing work for retailers including Limited Too and Bath & Body Works, as well as original character design for advertising agencies and advertisers such as McDonald’s, Jem Sportswear and Snuggie Toys, among others.

New Strawberry Shortcake product debut down under. American Greetings Properties (AGP) and its licensing agent Merchantwise Australia announce LZ Enterprises launches kid-aimed fruit drinks for Strawberry Shortcake in Australia and New Zealand. Available in six flavors, the new Strawberry Shortcake themed fruit drinks can be found at mass, specialty stores, department stores, restaurants and in vending machines across Australia and New Zealand.

ZeptoLab and Rubie’s Costume Company ink a deal to develop a line of Cut the Rope costumes and dress-up accessories (e.g. face and body makeup, hats and headwear, tights, gloves, costume shoes and boots, treat bags/pails, streamers). The new deal, which includes costumes in all sizes, pet costumes and accessories, was brokered by licensing agents Studio Licensing and Established Brands Licensing. Based on ZeptoLab’s Cut the Rope game, the new products will be available across the US and Canada beginning summer 2013.

MORE KIDS STUFF

The Hub launches the new series Littlest Pet Shop this Saturday, November 10 at 11a with parts 1 and 2 of the debut story. The day also includes the premiere of the third season of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic at 10a. Additionally, The Hub will also air a special episode of Family Game Night featuring military families on Sunday, November 11 at 7p.

iStoryTime releases the Suzy’s Zoo Storybook Series app ($.99) for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. The first book in the series to be featured is Witzy’s Friends Forever. Based on the characters created by artist Suzy Spafford, the Suzy’s Zoo Storybook Series is designed to promote literacy with interactivity, animation and narration, as well as in-app activities, for young readers. Features include: coloring book that includes scenes that can be colored, saved, shared and printed; memory card; puzzle that ask kids to put together pieces to solve scenes from the book; and narration options – read to me, read to myself and auto play.

Please include the following information: type of program (i.e. series, special, documentary, movie or holiday-themed episode, animated, live-action or other), title, dates and times of all airings (please indicate when the show first premieres and when subsequent encores will air). A confirmation email will be sent following each submission from Gwen (if you don’t receive a confirmation email, please resubmit).

EXECUTIVE MOVES

Viacom International Media Networks Viacom (VIMN) appoints Elena Balmont as GM, VIMN Russia & CIS. Effective immediately, Balmont takes over for Nicholas Walters who will exit VIMN in December to pursue a new entrepreneurial venture. She will report to David Lynn, EVP & MD, VIMN UK, Australia, Russia & Eastern Europe. Based in Moscow, Balmont is responsible for the operational and strategic management of VIMN’s business in Russia & CIS, which is comprised of 11 channels, including global brands Nickelodeon, Paramount Comedy and MTV, operating under license via local partner ProfMedia. She is also charged with identifying new opportunities to further grow the business in the region. Most recently, Balmont was Deputy CEO at Content Union. She previously toiled for 12 years with Russia TV network CTC Media.

Disney XD‘s new series Crash & Bernstein hit a series high with its play on Monday, November 5 at 8:30p among Total Viewers (764,000), K6-11 (399,000) and K2-11 (457,000). The series launched on October 8, 2012.
