Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes denied seeing any signs of Netflix-induced cord-cutting yesterday in a quarterly conference call with analysts, but did promise the company was working to improve access to TV, film and magazine content across platforms and devices. He said that some form of “TV Everywhere,” including VOD for new movie releases and HBOGo on more distributors, would be available across 70 million homes by Q2 2011. The company again enjoyed healthy ad and subscription revenues from its cable networks, up 10% and 9% y/y. Time Warner reported a profit of $522 million for Q3, or 46 cents/share, down from $662 million, or 55 cents, a year earlier.

CNN’s Politics Section was up nearly 100% over the prior 4-week average with more than 25 million page views, citing Omniture numbers.

Amid drastic cost-cutting measures and asset sales, AOL managed to eke out 130% increase in Q3 earnings to $171 million. Ad revenues declined 26% to $563.5 million, however, due largely to “self inflicted” cuts to sales staff across the globe, according to CEO Tim Armstrong. Display ads were down 8% domestically and 54% internationally, while search and contextual ads dropped 28%. Dial-up revenues, which still account for some 43% of AOL’s revenues, declined 26% during the quarter.

T-Mobile began a 4G marketing blitz around the launch of devices such as T-Mobile myTouch 4G handset and T-Mobile’s first 4G netbook, the Dell Inspiron Mini 10 4G. Both work on TMobile’s HSPA+ network, capable of delivering speeds of 12 Mbps (depending on the market) and have been deployed to 140 million people as of Nov. 1. Rival carriers such as Sprint and AT&T are already calling foul with the footprint numbers; AT&T says it delivers HSPA+ speeds to over 180 million.

Eager to snare some of the money pouring into local online and mobile couponing, Facebook introduced a new “Deals” platform allowing local businesses to offer bargains to users who stumble upon their locales via Facebook places, on the iPhone or via the mobile web browser-based touch.facebook.com interface. Individual deals require you to check in to get the deal. Friend deals require you to tag and recruit others. Loyalty deals reward frequent patronage. Charity deals encourage local businesses to give to a shelter, school or other worthy cause. Facebook is also (finally) stepping up its mobile efforts, adding a single sign on feature to make it easier to integrate Facebook with other mobile apps. Finally you can log on once and not have to type in your password again and again ad nauseam.
