Good morning. It’s Thursday, November 17, 2011, and this your first early morning briefing.

Producer/distributor 9 Story Entertainment (Almost Naked Animals, Peep and the Big Wide World, Wibbly Pig, Wild Kratts) expands into consumer products by acquiring a 50% interest in The Monster Factory Company, a creator/manufacturer of plush monsters.  9 Story Entertainment has been steadily expanding the consumer products licensing segment of its business, most recently with their Almost Naked Animals animated series.  Both 9 Story and Monster Factory are based in Toronto.  Founded four years ago by Adam Dunn, Rhya Tamasauskas, and Bliss Man, The Monster Factory’s line includes 100+ characters, each with its own background, storyline and design.

LICENSING

Lisle International Licensing appoints Prima Toys as the master toy licensee for ZhuZhu Pets in South Africa.  The deal was brokered by Lisle’s South African sub-licensing agent, Character Licensing & Marketing (CLM), and will introduce new ZhuZhu Pets categories in the territory.

Pattni Imaginations unveils plans to launch its new Match Stars line of football (soccer) action figures across Latin America.  The Match Stars realistic figures are pose-able, including moveable heads, shoulders, arms, elbows, wrists, waist, legs, knees and ankles, and also feature a spring-loaded kicking action, and will feature teams including Arsenal FC, Chelsea FC, Liverpool FC, Manchester United and FC Barcelona.  The new deal will see the Manchester United and FC Barcelona lines launched in Mexico initially, after Pattni signed a deal with distributor Funky Toys.  After Mexico, Match Stars will be distributed across the rest of Latin America.

MARKETING

Club Penguin says hallo Deutschland, as Disney EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) launches the German-language version of its kid-targeted virtual world this week at www.clubpenguin.de.   This marks the fifth language website for Club Penguin, and like the others it is supported by a team of moderators, production and customer service staff.  Also like the other sites, the new Germany Club Penguin is free to play, with one, six and 12-month memberships available for access to exclusive content and further customization.

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment is set to release new, downloadable content for the interactive Sesame Street: Once Upon a Monster video game on Kinect for Xbox 360.  Unidentified Furry Objects, a new chapter in the game’s storybook adventure where players explore a living storybook with Muppet characters, will be available on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 on the Xbox Live Marketplace for 400 Microsoft Points.

MORE KIDS STUFF

CBBC (UK) will debut the new kid aimed documentary series Show Me What You’re Made Of, which is produced by Watershed TV.  Hosted by Stacey Dooley, the five episode series follows five UK kids as they travel the world to discover, in a hands on way, how the everyday items they may take for granted are actually made.  The kids will make their way to Indonesia and the Philippines where they work in factories that produce some of their favorite belongings (electronic gadgets, toys, jewelry and clothes), the kids will have real bosses and live in the homes of real workers from these places to see what their lives are like.  Show Me What You’re Made Of is designed to challenge kid’s perceptions of the world with the goal of making them think differently about what they see and buy.

Degrassi‘s hour-long special, Nowhere to Run, premieres tomorrow, Friday, November 18 at 9p on TeenNick.  Jake and Clare might not be together anymore, but their new step-brother/sister relationship isn’t off to a good start either. After arguing with Clare at their parents’ wedding, Jake invites a few friends to an end-of-summer party at his cabin.

Magician David Copperfield will make a special guest star appearance in a new episode of Wizards of Waverly Place this Friday, November 18 at 8p on Disney Channel.

Cartoon Network is set to premiere its new hour-long crossover animated special episode Ben 10/Generator Rex: Heroes United on Friday, November 25 at 7p.  The special features the two teen heroes, Ben Tennyson (Ben 10: Ultimate Alien) and Rex (Generator Rex), as they combine their powers in an epic battle to save their worlds from a new evildoer.  Both Ben 10: Ultimate Alien, Generator Rex, and the crossover episode, are creations of Man of Action.

Nickelodeon cooks up a cornucopia of programming for the Thanksgiving weekend Wednesday – Sunday, November 23-27, 2011.  Kicking off the holiday weekend on Wednesday, November 23 is the hour-long premiere of The Fairly OddParents “Timmy’s Secret Wish” at 8p.  Thanksgiving Day will feature a marathon of Nickelodeon movies.  Friday, November 25, the network will offer a day of SpongeBob SquarePants programming from 9a, and includes the back-to-back premiers of two new SpongeBob episodes at 8 and 8:30p.  The weekend continues Saturday, with new episodes of The Penguins of Madagascar at 11a, T.U.F.F. Puppy at 11:30a and an hour-long Power Rangers Samurai special, Clash of the Red Rangers, at 12p, and episodes of Nickelodeon’s new animated series, Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness at 8p and 8:30p.  Sunday’s programming lineup will include episodes of Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness at 7p and 7:30p.

Nickelodeon‘s other channels will also celebrate Thanksgiving:
     Nick Jr. will feature Thanksgiving themed episodes of its popular shows on Thursday, November 24.
     Nicktoons hosts Feast of Fury Week, beginning Monday, November 21, and featuring network premieres of Speed Racer, Dragon Ball Z Kai, Iron Man and Voltron Force.
     TeenNick joins the festivities with a special daily movie Thursday-Sunday, November 24-27, at 12p.

Cartoon Network‘s animated series Adventure Time gets a new character, Me-Mow  a mini cat assassin, this Monday, November 21 at 8p.  What is unique about this new character is that a 14-year-old Orange City, Florida boy named Gunnar created Me-Mow.  Gunnar’s mom took it from there.  She took chance in sending her son’s sketches to the Adventure Time creator at Cartoon Network Studios, and turns out he must have liked it because the family got a phone call from the show saying that they wanted to develop and incorporate Me-Mow into an episode.

Entertainment One Family (eOne) completes a broadcast deal with Chellomedia‘s Central European cartoon channel Minimax for the preschool animated series Peppa Pig.  Minimax will debut the first two seasons of Peppa Pig in December 2011 in a range of local languages including Hungarian, Romanian, Czech, Slovenian and Serbian.  Peppa Pig is already available in Eastern Europe on TVP and MiniMini (both in Poland), Ceska Televize (Czech Republic), RTV (Slovenia) and Nova TV (Croatia).  eOne is currently in negotiations with licensees in various categories, such as toy, publishing and apparel, for the Minimax territories.

Distribution360 licenses several preschool series to Hop! Channel (Israel), which is targeted to preschoolers and their parents.  Under the deal Hop! picks up the animated series Olive the Ostrich, which is produced by Blue-Zoo, and the marblemedia produced live-action series This is Daniel Cook and This is Emily Yeung.

Channel One News, an Alloy Media + Marketing company, appoints Marc Musicus as VP/Advertising Sales and James Lundy as Sr. Account Executive.  Both Musicus and Lundy will report to Pete Thomas, who was recently named SVP/Sales & Marketing, Channel One.  Most recently Musicus was VP/Group Media Director, Active Media International.  He previously co-founded the boutique advertising agency Airborne Entertainment, and has served in senior sales positions for Sony Pictures GSN, Telemundo, and Univision.  Lundy joins Channel One from TelAmerica Media, where he served as Account Executive for Unwired Network.  He has also held advertising sales positions for Harris Corporation’s advertising solutions group, and Turner Broadcasting.
