Cynopsis: Kids!

Good morning. It’s Thursday, April 5, 2012, and this your first early morning briefing.
The Hub unveils plans to premiere the all-new, action-adventure animated series Kaijudo: Rise of the Duel Masters Saturday, June 2, 2012. Additionally, the network will offer a sneak peek of the first three episodes of Kaijudo: Rise of the Duel Masters on Saturday, May 5, at 8:30-10a. The half-hour series features the voice talents of actors including Scott Wolf (Party of Five), Freddy Rodriguez (Ugly Betty), John DiMaggio (Pound Puppies, Futurama), Oded Fehr (The Mummy) and Phil LaMarr (Mad TV). From Hasbro Studios, Kaijudo: Rise of the Duel Masters is described as a re-imagination of the popular Duel Masters property in Japan developed by Wizards of the Coast and Hasbro. Simultaneous to the sneak peek, an online game will debut on Kaijudo.com (www.kaijudo.com). This summer will also see the release of a trading card game (TCG) around the debut of the series.
The Fred Rogers Company partners with retail apparel licensee Olaes Enterprises-ODM (ODM). Under the deal, ODM will expand the Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood brand and reach out to a new generation with new themed products. The license deal was negotiated by Fred Rogers Company’s agency, Brand Central. Through various partnerships and licensing pacts, the Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood brand will be extended throughout the US and will include product categories such as t-shirts and fleeces in all styles, models, and materials.
American Greetings Properties (AGP) expands its partnership with Terajima Joho Kikaku (TJK) for digital and mobile rights for the Care Bears in Japan. The new deal for mobile applications includes images for decomail, icons, wallpapers, and widgets. The new mobile apps will be distributed through Google Play, Ameba Market, and the iTunes App Store among others in Japan only. The new pact builds upon the existing agreement for “Kisakae-Chan,” custom mobile themes, which are distributed via a mobile site, as well as mobile skins that are available through Mixi-Mobile SNS.
Nickelodeon and Movie Park Germany, a film and entertainment theme park, renew their partnership for NickLand, the Nickelodeon-themed, 50,000 square feet interactive adventure area at Movie Park Germany in Bottrop-Kirchhellen. Under the new, six-year licensing agreement, Movie Park Germany will retain theme park rights to incorporate Nickelodeon’s popular characters into attractions and features at its park. Additionally, the newly renewed partnership will include the development of re-themed attractions, co-branded merchandise and expanded marketing campaigns in Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands. NickLand opened in April 2007 as the first family-aimed, Nickelodeon-themed adventure park in Europe.
HIT Entertainment enters into an exclusive partnership with resort and property owner/operator All Inclusive Collection, to feature some of its popular kid-targeted properties at the kids clubs of All Inclusive Collection’s locations in Mexico, the Dominican Republic and the Caribbean. Under the agreement, HIT’s portfolio, including Thomas & Friends, Barney, Bob the Builder and Angelina Ballerina, will be featured at HIT’s Little Big Club (for indoor and outdoor play) at the newly designed kids clubs and interactive kids’ areas opening this summer at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Punta Cana, Cancun Palace (which becomes Hard Rock Hotel Cancun in August 2012) and Aventura Cove Palace (to be renamed Hard Rock Hotel Riviera Maya in early 2013). These three properties are owned by the All Inclusive Collection, and are operated by an affiliate under licensing agreements from Hard Rock International. Among the themed interactive play areas for kids at each Little Big Club are an Angelina Ballerina area, where girls pretend they are the stars of their own show, with interactive dance videos and a ballerina dress-up area, among other things. The Thomas & Friends activity area is a play area, featuring a super-sized Thomas train table. In the Barney music area, young rockers can play with musical instruments, and participate in sing-a-longs and other activities with Barney. There will also be a Bob the Builder building and craft area, where kids can build with blocks, and take part in various craft activities. Each Little Big Club will also have its own mini-theater for kid movie nights, dance classes, talent shows and karaoke. A weekly live show, produced by RWS and Associates, for kids of all ages featuring popular characters in their own rock band. In addition, the Little Big Club will offer character meet and greets during story time and other activities. Aventura Cove Palace will also feature a Thomas the Tank Engine attraction.

Big Idea Entertainment grows the digital program for its popular VeggieTales brand as it partners with mobile developer, Playful Owl, and social media development and marketing firm, GorillaSpot, a creator of video apps. VeggieTales is the first property to launch with Playful Owl’s Step-by-Story reading readiness mobile app. With Step-by-Story, preschoolers can create short story through a series of simple choices for 500+ possible story combinations per title. The app automatically turns their choices into an animation that can be shared with parents and friends. Big Idea has recently launched VeggieTales: The Goofy Gift and VeggieTales: Larry’s Missing Music, with six other additional titles scheduled to roll out this year. The apps are available for Android, iPhone and iPad. Big Idea is working with ReelCards powered by GorillaSpot to introduce VeggieTales ecards. Consumers will be able to access the ecards (including themed ones for various occasions) via a Facebook application that will enable them to send personalized video cards using short clips from popular VeggieTales titles. This launch is expected to roll out this summer and will be available as a mobile app on Android and iPhone from early summer 2012. Earlier this year Big Idea teamed with Weeblets, a developer/publisher of kid-aimed mobile apps, for the release of The VeggieTales Spotisode Collection, currently available on Android and iPhone.
P2 Games, an interactive games publisher, is set to release its popular Peppa Pig apps on the Android platform for the first time in the UK. On the heels of P2’s success with its Peppa Pig app releases on iTunes, the publisher will introduce Peppa Pig Happy Mrs. Chicken (available now) and Peppa Pig Polly Parrot (releasing in June 2012), each including 4 interactive games and a bonus reward sticker book, onto Android smartphones and tablets. The apps will be the first of many titles that P2 Games plans to launch for Android devices. In addition to entering the Android market, P2 is also extending its offerings to a wider audience by launching its popular Humf, Peppa Pig Happy Mrs. Chicken and Peppa Pig Polly Parrot apps at the Nokia Store.
