Good morning. It’s Monday, October 28, 2013, and this is your first early morning digital briefing.

NEW PROGRAMMING + DEALS

Twitter unveiled its IPO value at $10.9 billion on Friday. Reuters reports even this number appeared low compared with the $15 billion many analysts expected from the little blue bird. Twitter has said that it will sell 70 million shares, priced between $17 and $20.

CONTENT MEDIA

New York Television Festival Digital Day on Friday brought in Twitter’s Head of TV Fred Graver and other TV and digital content leaders to discuss how to build a following. Graver said that Twitter’s advantage is clear. “Twitter is a two-way medium,” he commented. “It’s very much like what happens in a theater, in that the crowd reaction makes the enjoyment of a TV show.” Another panelist, Michael Davies, a producer of hits like Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live! called the second screen the savior of TV.

MTV released its original documentary series Wait Till Next Year on its mobile app a week before the TV premiere. The entire 12-episode series is available on apple devices and the Xbox app.

Yahoo is debuting a new web animated series based on the Queen of England parody Twitter handle @Queen_UK on Nov. 15. The series, titled Yes Ma’am, will debut on Yahoo’s UK platform, and a new episode will be available every week. The original Twitter account has 1.1 million followers.

Amazon’s third quarter earnings report, released last week, revealed a 24% jump in revenue over last year, topping out at $17.1 billion. Not only did the announcement beat Wall Street’s $16 billion expectations, but it may also grow as much as ten percent next quarter, said All Things D.

Samsung also reported a profitable third-quarter with a 26 percent increase over last year, to $9.6 billion. BGR Media reports the biggest moneymakers for Samsung this quarter were its estimated 85 to 89 million smartphones sold, and its major chip market.

MOBILE ADVERTISING

Instagram gave its users a taste of what its ads will look like in an announcement made on Friday. As part of the new sponsored posts, Instagram is giving users the option to disable any ad and provide feedback for why a user may opt out. The ads are expected to roll out this week.

Bravo took to Instagram video last week to promote the next Inside the Actors Studio interview with the cast of Arrested Development on Nov. 7.

MOBILE GAMING + APPS

Adult Swim and PikPok’s Giant Boulder of Death is now available for Android through GooglePlay. The updated app also has new features, such as a Halloween pumpkin boulder, and is free for both Apple and Android devices.

Participant Media’s new millennial-focused TV network, Pivot, released an app for DISH customers on Friday. This is the second partner to bring in the PivotTV app, and it’s also available on all of DISH’s TV everywhere platforms. PivotTV features original series like Raising McCain and Jersey Strong.

EXEC MOVES

Hulu announced it has hired Elaine Paul as the new CFO. Paul previously was the Walt Disney Company’s Senior Vice President of Corporate Strategy.

Vivian Schiller will join Twitter this January in the newly created role Head of Journalism Partnerships in January. Schiller was previously the NBC News Senior Vice President and Chief Digital Officer.
