Cynopsis: Kids!
06/07/10
Good morning. It’s Monday, June 7, 2010, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.
Mattel unveils Monster High ( www.monsterhigh.com ), a new tween/teen girl-targeted property, which is rolling out across multiple platforms, including an interactive website, a Universal feature film, webisodes and TV special, and through a publishing deal with Little, Brown Books for Young Readers and consumer products partners including Justice and Party City and of course a toy line. Monster High revolves around the six hip teen kids (five girls and one boy) of famous monsters, such as Frankie Stein, Clawdeen Wolf and Draculaura, as they make their way through the … well … dare I say it … the “horrors” of high school. The website offers backgrounds of the fashionable kids and their school, webisodes, games and activities.
- Universal Pictures has acquired the theatrical rights to create a live-action movie musical, which will bring together producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron (Hairspray, Chicago) and writers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (Smallville, the Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor).
- Mattel has developed a series of short animated webisodes about the teen monsters and their high school up and downs that are available on MonsterHigh.com. New webisodes debut on the site each Friday through the end of July 2010.
- Additionally, a Monster High animated special is in the works. The special will feature the music of teen singer Allison Iraheta (American Idol season 8) – her songs Scars and Friday I’ll Be Over You, which focus on fitting in, dovetail with the Monster High themes. The special will air this fall 2010 on broadcast TV, online and mobile services, further details are TBA.
- Little, Brown Books for Young Readers will publish a series of books written by Lisi Harrison (The Clique, Alphas) under a multi-year global partnership with Mattel. Monster High, the first title in the series, releases September 1, 2010.
- On the consumer products side Mattel has partnered with: Justice for a line of Monster High apparel, lifestyle accessories, back-to-school items and jewelry, which will debut at stores this July. Justice will also feature the Monster High webisodes on monitors in-store, online and via ads and its catalog; Party City for a line of costumes based on several characters that will be available exclusively at the store from September 2010; other consumer product partners include High IntenCity, Accessory Innovations, Ashko Group and ACI International for products such as fashion bags, hair accessories and jewelry, socks and slippers all debuting fall 2010.
- Mattel’s Monster High toy line will include fashion dolls, themed plush, electronics, role play and novelty items, which launch at retail this July.
