Cynopsis: Kids!
07/11/11

Good morning. It’s Monday, July 11, 2011, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

CBBC (UK) orders new kid-targeted original programming including Jedward’s Tour of Britain, the documentary series My Life and Made By Me, and a world series guide Vic Reeve’s Project.

  • Made By Me (5×30) – the series takes a group of five teens (and viewers) around the world to meet and learn about the people that make the products they use daily, such as the jeans and shoes they wear.  Produced by London-based Watershed TV, follows five teens as they travel to the Philippines and Indonesia where, in addition to meeting the people that make the things they use, the teens will see where they work and those products are made, as well as live with host families.
  • My Life – the documentary series returns with a new group of episodes (4×30, with two more to be commissioned) in 2012.  Each episode follows unique kids and their stories, including one child that is waiting for a new kidney donation from one of his parents, to a group of teen boys in London setting up their own fresh produce business.  Four different production companies, Sixth Sense Media, Nine Lives, CTVC and Lambent Productions, are producing the four new episodes.
  • Vic Reeves Project (13×28) – hosted by comedian Vic Reeves, the show is described as a comedy meets fact-based series, Vic Reeves Project invites kids along as they investigate some strange questions, like: Could a dog ever really be Prime Minister? Do flying monkey soldiers exist? If you pick your nose will your head actually cave in?  The series is produced by CBBC’s in-house team, which is led by series producer Rob Hyde.
  • Jedward’s Tour of Britain – the series follows twins John and Edward Grimes, who together are known as Jedward, as they take viewers on a tour of the World Heritage sites across the UK, including Hadrian’s Wall and the Jurassic Coast.  The duo will also serve as tour guides for a tour group at the sites.  The series is produced by Initial Kids.

MORE KIDS STUFF

Everyday Health, a publisher of health related information, partners with indie TV distributor Litton Entertainment to produce a new educational/informational (E/I) TV series, titled Everyday Health, which will air as part of Litton’s Weekend Adventure, a Saturday morning tween/teen aimed programming block that will air on 95% of ABC Affiliates nationwide beginning Saturday, September 3, 2011.  Executive produced by Mark Koops (creator/exec. producer The Biggest Loser), the Everyday Health series will feature average, yet extraordinary, individuals as they confront and overcome their health issues, while also trying to help others.  Additionally, the series will produce original content, featuring Everyday Health’s experts, online tools and mobile apps.  Everyday Health co-founders, Ben Wolin, CEO, and Mike Keriakos, President, will serve as co-producers.  In May of this year Litton inked a deal with ABC to program an FCC compliant three-hour Saturday morning E/I programming block for ABC Affiliates, including the ABC O&O stations.  Per the original announcement, Litton’s Weekend Adventure will also feature the new series: Jack Hanna’s Wild Countdown, Ocean Mysteries, Born to Explore, The Delicious Adventures of Claire Thomas, and Culture Click.

Maya the Bee heads to Russia.  Rio License has entered into a deal with Studio 100 to acquire CGI animated series Maya the Bee (78×13) for air in Russia and all the CIS territories (Commonwealth of Independent States), which includes Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia.  Maya the Bee is set to launch in Russia on a national channel beginning 2013.  A CGI animated Maya the Bee feature film is in development.  Rio plans first to introduce a product line based on the Maya 2D classic style guide in 2012 aimed both kids and young women, the latter who grew up on the 2D version of the property.  A new preschool-targeted merchandising program, based on the new Maya CGI series, will debut simultaneous to the Russian launch of the new series.

HBO Home Entertainment will release four new DVD titles from El Perro y El Gato, the original HBO Family and HBO Latino animated specials, this August 9, 2011.  The El Perro y El Gato DVD titles ($9.95 each) are designed to help kids learn a new language in a unique and playfully quirky way, with the help of an excitable orange dog, El Perro, and his laid-back, and unendingly hungry feline purple pal, El Gato.  The four titles include: El Perro y El Gato: La Aventura Comienza/The Adventure Begins; El Perro y El Gato: Sin Correa/Unleashed; El Perro y El Gato: Juntos Otra Vez/Together Again; and El Perro y El Gato: De Aquí Para Alla/From Here to There.
