Facebook and Hollywood got tighter via a new partnership between Warner Bros. Digital Distribution and the world’s biggest social site to debut a so-called “social series” starting October 18. The show, called Aim High , lets users put their own face in the show. A user’s photo might appear in an election poster in the fictional school in the series, as an example, Warner said. The show’s viewing app also lets Facebook users integrate their profile information, such as photos, text and friends into the series. Aim High is an action comedy starring Jackson Rathbone, the actor who plays struggling vegetarian vampire Jasper in Twilight. The show is slated to run for six episodes. Warner Bros and Facebook have teamed up before. Warner was one of the first studios to offer movies for rental on the social site.
A+E Networks Digital Media said it will leverage the Facebook social graph into certain elements of BIO channel‘s Web site Bio.com to show the connections between site visitors, their Facebook friends and notable people throughout history. When Bio.com visitors sign in via Facebook the site can highlight their connections to more than 6,000 of the world’s most famous people, Bio said.
Gannett Co. is launching a cross-platform marketing campaign for the National Breast Cancer Foundation in October. The campaign is designed to spread the message of the importance of early detection and will include home page ads on USAToday.com, ads on the newspaper’s health vertical, targeted messaging on its mobile and iPads apps, as well as messages on local stations.
Online TV network Revision3 just launched a new show called Ty’s iHelp from YouTube star Ty Moss. The show focuses on Apple-powered devices, news, reviews and jailbreaks. Ty Moss has corralled 42 million views and 150,000 subscribers on YouTube so far.
Bloomberg Sports struck a new licensing deal with Major League Baseball postseason broadcasters Fox Sports and TBS to deliver enhanced statistics and analytical tools, including pitch analysis and other predictive features, for each game in the upcoming playoffs and World Series.
Twitter is on pace to nab $139.5 million in global ad revenues this year, up three times its $45 million haul last year, says eMarketer. The research firm also predicted that the social service will earn nearly $400 million in ad dollars by 2013. The rise comes from Twitter’s Promoted Products, eMarketer said.

Game mechanics company blurbIQ said it has generated a ten times increase in interaction rates for its video ads that include gaming elements like trivia questions inside video commercials.
The targeted media market will reach nearly $200 billion this year, a figure that comprises direct mail, text messages and product placement in video games as well as smartphone messaging and apps, according to a study from investment group Veronis Suhler Stevenson reported by Reuters. The study found that spending on targeted media will jump about 7% this year and should hit $272.5 billion in 2015. The growth comes in part because of the skyrocketing use of mobile phones.
Game maker Electronic Arts said it will introduce a new ad platform to provide brand marketers with more comprehensive audience data and insights across mobile, social, online and console games aggregating metrics, brand impact and social buzz. The new tools will be showcased at Advertising Week in New York on October 4.
About one-third of U.S. consumers ages 13 to 54 use Netflix for streaming or watching DVDs at least once a month, but more Netflix users rely on the service for DVDs than for streaming, according to a new study from Knowledge Networks. The research found that 29% of the population said they use DVDs and Blu-ray to watch Netflix content on TV at least once per month, while 20% said they use the streaming TV option monthly.
Ad exchange adBrite formed a strategic partnership with interactive video advertising company Jivox to offer video ad units that feature tools to let users share ads via social channels, watch long-form videos within an ad unit or link to coupons. adBrite reaches 300 million global unique visitors every month, the company said.
Fox released a new viewing companion app for its show Terra Nova. The app lets viewers learn more about the prehistoric world featured in the show.
Popular-music discovery and identification app Shazam said it will now allow unlimited tagging for its free app for iPhones, iPads and iTouches, rather than just five tags each month. Shazam said its service has more than 150 million users.
