Yahoo is getting yet another makeover, but not for its logo. This time it’s for myyahoo, its customizable web page.
In other words: The last time Yahoo touched the page was six years ago, and the new look conveniently comes just before November, when iGoogle goes bye-bye. Yahoo is even offering to import iGoogle settings from the my.yahoo home page.
A new web TV network called Foodable launched on Thursday, with the premiere of eight new web TV shows. Digital food and restaurant brand DigitalCoCo is behind the new network, which is planning to produce 300 new episodes by next year.
The British TV streaming service Acorn TV is premiering Doc Martin, Vera and Above Suspicion exclusively for U.S. Roku devices on Oct. 7. The series will also be available to stream at www.Acorn.TV.
Jimmy Kimmel Live’s “Twerk-fail” reveal struck gold for ABC last week. Within the first 24 hours of JK coming clean, the clip generated 7.8 million video views on ABC.com and YouTube combined. The prank also resulted in 10,451 tweets, making the show the most socially broadcasted late-night series that evening.
Hulu has picked up a second season of its animated original series The Awesomes, with 10 episodes to premiere in 2014. The first season debuted on Aug. 1, and continues to place in the top ten most watched shows on the site.
Grand Theft Auto V became the fastest-selling game in history on Tuesday, with sales speeding past $800 million. It even topped Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, which saw $1 billion in sales just 15 days after its 2012 release. The game’s maker, Take-Two Interactive Software, did not disclose how many GTAV’s were sold on the first day, but it’s speculated that the number is around 10-13 million.
Swiftly following Microsoft‘s decision to start a trade-in program for iPads last week, the tech company announced Thursday that it will also take back BlackBerry and Android devices, in exchange for $350 in store credit. Microsoft says it will either sell the BlackBerrys and Androids overseas or donate them to non-profit organizations.

Good news for advertisers: those tweeting and watching TV at the same time are taking breaks from their feeds to pay attention to commercials. A new Nielsen study found that 70 percent of tweets occur during actual TV programming, and only 30 percent sent out during the ad breaks.
In other words: This is a good indication that the second-screen trend doesn’t take away from ad engagement… great for all those marketers thinking up new Vine ideas while they read this item.
A new study by SilverPop measured which summer movies struck gold on social media platforms, such as Facebook Twitter and Google+:
- Man of Steel attracted more than 2 million followers combined on the three platforms.
- Fast & Furious zoomed ahead of any other sequels, with 38 million plus fans on Facebook alone.
- White House Down ranked number 24 in both domestic movie grosses and social media followers for the summer season.
A slew of updated apps coincided with the arrival of iOS7 on Wednesday, including Facebook‘s mobile app and the NBC app. Facebook’s features new navigation tabs at the bottom of the screen, ironic since Twitter is planning to do away with similar tabs for its new mobile design. NBC’s app can now be used to watch full episodes on mobile devices, and will be integrated with its TV Everywhere platform set to launch in 2014.
Oxygen Media has released its TV Everywhere app Oxygen Now for Apple devices and web browsers. Oxygen customers can stream full episodes using the app a day after a episode airs on TV, and all other app users can view a full episode 30 days after.
App downloads are expected to hit a booming 100 billion by the end of this year and 268 billion by 2017, according to a Gartner report. Free apps still rack in the greatest number of downloads, with paid apps accounting for just nine percent of downloads worldwide.

Digital book distributor OverDrive recently hired previous YouTube exec Lee Milstein as its new Chief Strategy Officer. OverDrive provides books for Kindle and Amazon.
