Kideo, a creator of personalized branded video products, and Saban Brands partner to create a first of its kind collection of personalized Power Rangers Samurai DVDs and digital video shorts. Utilizing Pix 3D, a new photo-personalization technology developed by Kideo’s parent company PixFusion, Power Rangers TV series fans will be able to place themselves into one of the episodes from the season and become a Samurai Power Ranger. The new personalized videos will retail for $29.99 and will debut this fall at www.kideo.com.

LICENSING

Bulldog Licensing enters into a European licensing deal with Electronic Arts owned US games developer PopCap (Bejeweled, Plants vs. Zombies). Under the terms of the deal, Bulldog is seeking to partner with European licensees across PopCap’s portfolio of brands, with specific focus on the family friendly game Plants vs. Zombies. Plants vs. Zombies merchandise is already available in the US in several categories.

As part of the 50th anniversary year of Clifford the Big Red Dog, Scholastic Media has inked some big new licensing deals and promotional partnerships.

– New Clifford licensees include: American Home & Textiles (juvenile, infant and toddler bedding and bath products, hooded towels, bath towels, beach mats, hooded ponchos, and terry and canvas tote bags, as well as table placemats, tablecloths, napkins, welcome mats, curtains, valances, tie backs, pet beds and kid’s quilted slumber mats); Hybrid Apparel (t-shirts, tanks, fleeces, and thermals for juniors, men, toddlers, and infants, and novelty tops for girls); In Canada  J corp (youth, toddler, and infant tees, swimwear, underwear, and sleepwear); A&A Global (plush toys, foam balls for crane arcade games); Andrews Blaine (plastic and magnetic bookmarks and book lights); The Young Scientists Club (science experiments and lab kits, science-related products, and science club subscriptions for K2-5); Color-A-Cookie (mini-bites boxed Animal Crackers, cookie decorating kits, gingerbread (dog) houses, decorated cookies).
– In promotional partnership: here in the US Buffets, owner/operator of HomeTown Buffet, Old Country Buffet, Country Buffet, Ryan’s and Fire Mountain restaurants, signs on to underwrite the Clifford The Big Red Dog TV series on PBS Kids, as well as offer Clifford printable activities, placemats, stickers, bookmarks, and book reading logs for families at its restaurants nationwide; Internationally, Wendy’s/Arby’s International will offer three different collectable Clifford Make-A-Scene kits, featuring a background and six repositionable stickers with their Kids Meal Premium.

MORE KIDS STUFF

New Zealand’s TVNZ picks up the CGI HD animated boy-targeted series Matt Hatter Chronicles (26×30) for its free to air commercial channel, TV2. The series is set to bow on TV2 as part of its spring line-up on the 2Kids weekend programming block in 2013. An action/comedy series, Matt Hatter Chronicles was recently acquired by Network Ten (Australia) for its free-to-air channel, Eleven. Matt Hatter Chronicles is produced by Platinum Films and Dream Mill and animated by Toronto’s Arc Productions (f/k/a Starz Animation – which produced the animated movies Gnomeo and Juliet and Tim Burton’s 9). The series can also be seen on Nicktoons and ITV in the UK, Teletoon (Canada), RTE (Ireland), SABC (South Africa) and Al Jazeera’s Children’s Channel (Middle East).

Golden Tickets are available. Poptropica fans will enter the factory of the secretive and quirkiest candy maker with the launch of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Island (http://www.Poptropica.com/island-tour/Charlie-and-the-chocolate-factory.html), its 31st Island. Available now to Poptropica members with early access, the kid-targeted virtual world’s new Island is based on author Roald Dahl’s beloved story. Players will be taken on a confectionery adventure to save the famous and mysterious factory. Poptropica Members will also have access to a bonus quest and special Member-only items. Non-members will have access to part of the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Island before its public launch on December 6, 2012. 2014 will mark the 50 year anniversary of the first publication of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Club Penguin is challenging its members with a new undercover event, Operation Blackout, in which they must save the Island of Club Penguin before evildoer Herbert P. Bear redirects all the Island’s sun with his new laser.  To take part, players must enlist as a secret agent in the Elite Penguin Force (EPF) to foil Herbert. Along the way players will have the chance to gather high tech spy gear and infiltrate the enemy fortress to destroy the laser and save the Island. Herbert’s plans were first revealed to EPF agents when they discovered his new website ClubHerbert.com and Twitter account, @ClubHerbert, where he began announcing plans of his world domination.

Kidz Bop is teaming up with digital music service Spotify to launch Kidz Bop Boombox, the first Spotify app specifically created for kids and families. Kidz Bop will curate all music playlists for the app, which is broken down into three different age groups: Preschool (K2-4); Kidz (K5-9); and The Boom (K10+). Kidz Bop Boombox will feature a range of age appropriate playlists for kids/families, including holiday classic songs, Kidz Bop albums, and current pop songs for older kids. The app will also include Celebrity Mixtape playlists, beginning with one from Debby Ryan (Disney Channel’s Jessie and Suite Life on Deck).

BRB Internacional aims to increase its presence in East Asia by attending Asia TV Forum. At the market BRB will showcase its catalog, including its new animated series Invizimals (26×30) – based on the video game saga from Sony Computer Entertainment, Mica (52×7) – inspired by Santillana Publishers‘ preschool character, and the original adventure series Khuda-Yana (26×30). BRB’s series Zoobabu and Suckers were both previously acquired by Disney for air in large sections of Asia, and Spacetoon in Indonesia, among other channels.

EXECUTIVE MOVES

Zodiak Rights, the international arm of Zodiak Media, undergoes a restructuring that will see Jane Millichip, MD, Zodiak Rights London, exit the company at the end of January 2013. The newly restructured business will be comprised of five divisions – kids programming, non-scripted programming, scripted programming, digital & publishing and clips. Effective January 1, 2013, all non-scripted programming (documentaries, factual and factual entertainment, formats and entertainment programming) will be sold out of London, with all scripted programming (drama, comedy and feature films) out of Paris – they are currently divided by territories. The remaining divisions, which include kids, digital & publishing and clips, will be based out of London. Zodiak Rights is currently seeking a head of the new non-scripted division. Additionally, Zodiak Rights has named Sara Wookey to the newly created position of COO. Wookey has toiled for a number of UK and international TV outlets, including Sparrowhawk Media, Nickelodeon; Discovery Networks and KidsCo TV where she served as Director of Broadcast.

Rainmaker Entertainment, a Vancouver-based CGI animation studio, appoints Michael Hefferon as President and Executive Producer. An industry veteran, Hefferon has produced 500+ half-hours of TV programming and numerous movies. Hefferon joins Rainmaker Entertainment from Bardel Entertainment, where he was VP/Business Development and Executive Producer. Under his new deal, Hefferon will continue to serve as Executive Producer on his current series productions with Bardel Entertainment. He previously toiled as MD of Australian CGI animation company Flying Bark Productions and as SVP/Production and Development for German animation studio BFC Berliner Film Companie Productions, where he also was Co-Producer on the animated feature film Happily N’ever After. Prior to all this, Hefferon headed animation co-productions for Guallane Entertainment/HIT Entertainment and served as VP/Production and Development for Catalyst Entertainment. Additionally, Hefferon was founder and President of Phoenix Animation (Fern Gully The Last Rainforest, Thumbelina, A Goofy Movie and All Dogs Go To Heaven II). Additionally, Bardel Entertainment CEO Delna Bhesania has been appointed to Rainmaker’s board of directors.
