The Hub TV network premieres the second season of the animated series Pound Puppies on Saturday, June 2 at 9a. The new season will introduce new puppies in training, Rebound, Cupcake and Patches, who from the Super Secret up Club. The second season premiere episode features a special guest voices over by Tara Strong (My Little Pony Friendship is Magic, Fairly OddParents, Wow! Wow! Wubbzy!) as a puppy named Zipper. Produced by Hasbro Studios, Pound Puppies stars the voices of Eric McCormack (Will & Grace), Yvette Nicole Brown (Community), Betty White (Hot in Cleveland), Michael Rapaport (Prison Break), John DiMaggio (Futurama, Kaijudo: Rise of the Duel Masters) and Alanna Ubach (Legally Blonde).
Lionsgate extends distribution deals with StudioCanal and Nordisk Film at the Cannes Film Festival this week in France.
- Lionsgate and European media company StudioCanal, is a subsidiary of the Canal+ Group, extend and expand their partnership with a longterm renewal of their deal. Under the pact, Lionsgate distributes the StudioCanal library of 2,000+ titles, as well as a new agreement for StudioCanal to distribute the second movie in of The Hunger Games franchise, Catching Fire, in German speaking territories. In addition to Lionsgate’s distribution of the StudioCanal library and StudioCanal ‘s distribution of The Hunger Games and Catching Fire in the German-speaking territories, Lionsgate UK and StudioCanal have partnered in the UK in Elevation Sales, a home entertainment sales and distribution joint venture.
- Lionsgate also extends its deal with Nordisk Film. Under this new multiyear output deal feature films from both Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment, recently acquired by Lionsgate, will be distributed by Nordisk in Scandinavia. The agreement extends Nordisk’s existing output pact with Summit to encompass the entire Lionsgate catalog of feature films.
Zinkia Entertainment, creator of Pocoyo, renews its home entertainment deal with NCircle Entertainment to release further Pocoyo DVD titles for an additional five years. Under the new deal, NCircle will release all-new Pocoyo DVD titles, including Pocoyo: Fun & Games and a Halloween themed release later this year. Additionally, the Company has acquired the rights to distribute the DVD releases for the new third season of the Pocoyo TV series, titled Let’s Go Pocoyo, and Pocoyo: Space Circus.
Marvel Entertainment and Kimberly-Clark Corporation enter into a license deal that will see Marvel’s Spider-Man featured on Kimberly-Clark’s kid GoodNites Underwear. Graphic images of Spidey will be available on GoodNites Underwear for boys for a limited time beginning this month. This marks the first use of licensed characters by the GoodNites brand. GoodNites Underwear featuring Spider-Man designs will be supported with an integrated marketing program including FSIs, online advertising, social media and mobile apps.

Soon Sesame Street fans in Southeast Asia will get a chance to experience life on the famed street as Resorts World Sentosa, Universal Parks & Resorts and Sesame Workshop partner to introduce a new family-targeted theme park attraction at Universal Studios Singapore this year. The new attraction will include a Sesame Street themed adventure ride in the New York themed area of the park, special shows and character breakfast program. Ahead of the opening of the actual Sesame Street attraction, Universal Studios Singapore will be roll out new Sesame Street shows to coincide with the upcoming June school holiday. A special rise-and-shine breakfast program will also debut in Q3 2012. Special Sesame Street merchandise, exclusive to the theme park, will also be available at three new themed retail outlets, including a Sesame Street School Bus driving into Universal Studios Singapore this July.
American Greetings Properties (AGP), the licensing division of America Greeting Corporation, completes a broadcast deal for the original Care Bears Classic animated series, produced in the 1980s, with Teletoon Retro (Canada). Care Bears Classic (www.carebears.com) episodes are currently airing on Teletoon Retro in both English and French.
Disney Publishing releases a new The Jungle Book app that is part of its Disney Classic app line. Targeted to K3-7, The Jungle Book app, available for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch, follows the story of Mowgli and his jungle friends as they face the dangerous tiger Shere Khan and the unknown world of the humans. Some of the app features include reading modes for all ages, coloring pages and interactive puzzles, memory games, and The Bare Necessities sing-along, among other things.
