The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) has released the final version of the Quality Assurance Guidelines 2.0 (QAG 2.0), a compliance program that provides brand safety assurances to advertisers that their ads will not appear next to inappropriate content. The QAG 2.0 program also addresses processes in the areas of compliance, mobile, transparency/display, video and programmatic auction mechanics (real-time bidding). “Companies that participate in the Quality Assurance Guidelines 2.0 program will demonstrate that they have achieved a higher level of trust, transparency and safety in interactive advertising,” said Patrick Dolan, Executive Vice President and COO, IAB. “Marketers seek out brand safe environments for their advertising, and IAB QAG certification provides this assurance. We expect that companies certified under these updated guidelines will attract more brand dollars.”
Nielsen‘s quarterly Global AdView Plus report says TV is still the place to be for advertising investment, with 59% media share and 3.5% global growth, and continued slow decline in print. Where did digital fit in? “We see less-steep ad spend increases in TV and very slight declines in print, making way for growth in the digital space,” said Randall Beard, global head, Advertiser Solutions for Nielsen. “Although these changes in traditional media are slight, it’s worth noting how the placement of ad dollars is shifting over time.”
Gradient X, a marketing platform for mobile, is now integrated within the SHIFT Open Marketing Cloud to manage, advertise and analyze their Facebook and Twitter initiatives in real-time. “Combining Gradient X’s technology with our social advertising tools, we now offer the only platform where advertisers can reach their customers across all mobile environments,” said James Borow, Co-founder and CEO of SHIFT.

Social media is gaga for Lady Gaga. As part of its #RoadtotheVMAs campaign, MTV announced via Instagram that the Born This Way singer would take the stage for the first live performance of her forthcoming yet-to-be-named single from her upcoming album, ARTPOP. Thus far, the campaign has garnered more than 45 million social media impressions, including over half a million likes on Instagram, 30.4 million impressions on Twitter, 13.5 million impressions on Facebook and 1 million impressions on Tumblr.
On Wednesday, August 7 at 9p, CNBC Prime presents #TwitterRevolution, a one-hour documentary that tells the story behind the rise of the social media giant. CNBC correspondent Carl Quintanilla interviews Twitter founder Jack Dorsey and CEO Dick Costolo about the company and reports on how law enforcement, journalists and concerned citizens exploited the online service during the Boston Marathon bombing investigation as well as the culture of gossip on Twitter that inflamed a scandal at a Connecticut high school.

Entone, a provider of Hybrid TV and Connected Home solutions, has announced the integration of LG Electronics’ Netcast media streaming platform with Entone’s hybrid media gateway. The combined solution is designed to deliver linear TV and over-the-top (OTT) online TV services to internet-connected consumer electronics devices without the need for a traditional set-top box. The first LG Netcast-enabled device supported by Entone will be the LG SP530 Media Player, which supports OTT video services like Netflix, VUDU, Hulu and YouTube.
Keshet Media Group, the Israel-based media company behind Homeland and Prisoners of War, has revealed the lineup of INTV, a two-day confab that will focus on the convergence of innovation and technology in television. To date, the event’s roaster includes Alex Kruglov, Hulu’s head of content acquisition, Sandra Stern, CEO of television at Lionsgate, Justin Gorman, head of entertainment at U.K.’s Channel 4, Nurse Jackie producer Caryn Mandabach, Touch creator Tim Kring, David Eilenberg, senior VP of unscripted development at TBS and TNT, Rick Rosen, WME board member and head of TV, The Killing‘s executive producer Mikkel Bondesen; and Keshet Intl. U.K. Executives, Sara Johnson and Amelia Hann. Among the topics that will be discussed are the emergence of new online outlets, integrated social media, the growth of interactive services and new business models. INTV is set to run on November 4 and 5 in Jerusalem.
SwapMob has unveiled a service for free-to-play gamers that allows players to buy and sell their premium virtual items among their friends and other players, regardless of game or operating system. SwapMob is now available for games on Web, social and mobile gaming platforms and developers can integrate the SwapMob API directly into their live or in-development games, without disrupting the gameplay experience for users. The Cartoon Network mobile app that offers full episodes, video clips, games and live streaming to its audience is now available for free on from Barnes & Noble’s NOOK Store and the Amazon Appstore for the NOOK HD Tablet and the Kindle Fire. The app is also available on iTunes, Google Play and the nabi tablet.
Nickelodeon has launched a new HTML5 mobile gaming hub featuring characters from its collection of animated and live-action television series. The new hub features 15 games for iOS and Android-enabled mobile phone browsers. Nick fans can visit m.nick.com/games to play games based on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Legend of Korra, SpongeBob SquarePants and more. The hub will be optimized for tablets later this year. No downloads are required and games are free.
GTChannel, Inc., the multi-channel network for the 18-34 male car enthusiasts demographic, will become the first official app provider for Opera Software’s (OPESY) partnership with Dailymotion for the Opera TV Snap platform. “We’ve been looking to reach our audience in the living room, but up to now we haven’t found a platform to monetize that interaction effectively,” said Scott Schlichter, Founder and CEO GTChannel. “Opera’s technology and strong backing provides a means to present GTChannel’s content anywhere the audience chooses to consume it and benefit our content partners.”
A website devoted to showcasing amusing apps for all iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and Android devices has been launched by ZettaLinx. The Daily App Review provides full app critiques and spotlights the latest app news while providing info and resources for mobile users to learn more about what’s new and striking on the App Store and the Android Market.
PeakColo, an IaaS Cloud service provider for channel partners, has appointed Dave Woodward as Senior Vice President of Sales. Woodward joins Peak from Insight, a Fortune 500 global provider of IT solutions. At Peak, Woodward will be responsible for establishing and growing key relationships within the technology partner and channel communities.
Jason Rzepka has taken on a larger role at MTV as Senior Vice President, Brand Communications and Public Affairs. In this expanded new position, Rzepka will oversee all corporate communications functions for MTV, including setting external and internal communications strategies for the brand, its various screens and businesses. He will also continue to oversee MTV’s Public Affairs department and the strategic direction of all “pro-social” campaigns across MTV, mtvU and MTV’s digital properties.
VH1 biopic CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story will premiere Monday, October 21. The original scripted movie, which chronicles the R&B group’s humble beginnings in Atlanta and unprecedented rise to fame in the ’90s, stars KeKe Palmer as Chilli, Drew Sidora as T-Boz, and Lil Mama as Left Eye, who died in a car crash in 2002. A 2-minute teaser has been released, highlighting top moments and music videos from the trio, including the memorable Waterfalls video. Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, the two surviving members of TLC, consulted on and exec produced the project.
