Cynopsis: Kids!
07/23/10
Good morning. It’s Friday, July 23, 2010, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.
At Comic-Con yesterday writer/director/producer Guillermo del Toro revealed that he is developing a new movie based on Disney‘s theme park attraction The Haunted Mansion. With del Toro on board to write and produce, Disney hopes to offer a unique thriller family movie that reflects the mystery of The Haunted Mansion attraction. The Haunted Mansion opened at Disneyland in August 1969, followed by versions of the ride at Disney’s parks in Orlando, Tokyo and Paris. Disney did release a comedy movie titled The Haunted Mansion, staring Eddie Murphy, in 2003. The del Toro adaptation of the movie will no doubt have nothing to do with the earlier movie.
Jerry Trainor, who plays Carly’s brother/guardian on iCarly, will star in the new 2D animated series T.U.F.F. Puppy (13×30), which launches on Nickelodeon this fall. Created and executive produced by Butch Hartman, who also created Fairly OddParents and Danny Phantom, T.U.F.F. Puppy also features a theme song performed by Adam Schlesinger of Fountains of Wayne and is produced at Nickelodeon Animation Studios. The series revolves around Dudley Puppy, a spirited but dimwitted dog that is thrust into the role of hero when he is recruited as a secret agent by the crime fighting T.U.F.F. (Turbo Undercover Fighting Force), and is forced to partner with a feline, superspy Kitty Katswell. Additionally, Trainor will star in Nickelodeon’s upcoming original TV movie Best Player.
Shaftesbury Sales Company, the distribution arm of Shaftesbury Films, inks a broadcast deal with Nickelodeon Germany for both season of its live-action adventure series Connor Undercover (39×30). The tween-targeted series will join the network’s programming lineup on August 22, 2010. Nickelodeon Germany is seen in Germany, Austria and Switzerland via free-to-air DTT and Cable. Additionally, the series, which already airs in a number of countries and regions, will premiere in Canada on Family Channel on September 17, 2010. Connor Undercover is co-produced by Shaftesbury and Heroic Film Company.
MTV Networks International (MTVNI) completes sales deals for 400+x30 of Nickelodeon programming with broadcasters in Kazakhstan, Albania and Slovenia on the heels of Discop East.
- KTK (Kazakhstan), a free-to-air broadcaster, acquires several of Nickelodeon’s animated series for air beginning this September 2010, including SpongeBob SquarePants (season 1-6), The Penguins of Madagascar (season 1-2), Danny Phantom (season 1-4), and Fairly OddParents.
- Digit-Alb (Albania) digital-satellite and digital-terrestrial picks up iCarly (season 1-20, True Jackson, VP (season 1-2), and Big Time Rush (season 1).
- TV3 (Slovenia) national free-to-air broadcaster acquires iCarly.
Shaw Multicultural Channel (British Columbia) renews the kid-targeted animated series Mixed Nutz. The new season of Mixed Nutz ( www.mixednutzshow.com ), which features a group of characters from diverse backgrounds with varying interests, airs Sundays at 4p PST. The series is produced by Big Bad Book Studios.
