Cynopsis: Kids!
07/16/10

Good morning. It’s Friday, July 16, 2010, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

Author Dean Koontz‘s Trixie, based on the noted author’s golden retriever, is headed to the big screen in a family-friendly movie.  Ralph Winter and Terry Botwick’s 1019 Entertainment have acquired Trixie and tapped Stephanie Fitch Groff to write the screenplay.  In addition to being the subject of Koontz’s memoir, A Big Little Life, Trixie “authored” several of her own books, and is the focus of a series of kid’s picture books including I, Trixie, Who is a Dog, written by Koontz and illustrated by Janet Cleland.  The second kid’s book, Trixie and Jinx, will be published in October 2010.  All of Koontz’s proceeds from Trixie’s ventures are donated to Canine Companions for Independence, the organization from which the author adopted Trixie.  Last spring 1019 Entertainment pocked up rights to Koontz’s Frankenstein book series.

NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT

Kevin Bacon signs on to play a villain in Fox‘s X-Men: First Class, per Variety, while Jennifer Lawrence (Winter’s bone) also joins the cast of the movie in the role of Mystique, who was portrayed by Rebecca Romijn in the first three X-Men movies, per Heat Vision.  As for exactly what villain Bacon will play  well that’s hush hush … for now.  X-Men: First Class is slated for release on June 3, 2011.  The first three X-Men movies were rated PG-13.

Fox 2000 acquires the rights to author Lauren Oliver’s young adult novel Before I Fall, per DeadlineMaria Maggenti will adapt the movie, with Jon Shestack producing and Ginny Pennekamp co-producing.  Before I Fall follows Samantha “Sam” Kingston, a teen who has worked her way up the high school popularity food chain, on what could be the last day of her life.  The story looks her life in a Groundhog Day style  as Sam re-lives the day over and over (and over) again, learning and seeing different things each time.
