01/15/10

Good morning. It’s Friday, January 15, 2010, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.

And the name of the new Discovery CommunicationsHasbro joint kid/family-aimed venture is … The Hub.  Margaret Loesch, President and CEO, The Hub, unveiled the new name and network logo at TCA.  Loesch also reconfirmed The Hub will launch in fall 2010 and its programming lineup will feature a mix of series based on Hasbro properties including Transformers, My Little Pony, Tonka, G.I. Joe, as well as Discovery Kids series Adventure Camp and Flight 29 Down.  The network will also have a strong online presence at hubworld .com, where kids can watch video clips, play interactive games and take part in a range of community related features.  The kid/family-targeted network will take over the channel space currently held by Discovery Kids and will be available in approximately 60 million homes.

MORE KIDS STUFF

IMAX, Marvel and Paramount unveil plans to release Iron Man 2 in digital IMAX theatres simultaneously with the movie’s worldwide release on May 7, 2010.  The movie will be digitally re-mastered for the digital IMAX release.  Directed by Jon Favreau, Iron Man 2 stars Robert Downey, Jr., and will be distributed by Paramount Pictures.

BabyTV partners with the Hong Kong Bureau of Education (EDB) to launch a ‘guidebook’, Growing Together: Making the most of TV for toddlers.  The book is designed to help parents make better media relate choices for their kids, as well as how to engage with their kids to get the most out of kid’s TV and media.  Created using the results of a survey conducted last summer in Hong Kong by BabyTV, which found that while 90% of parents use screens with their kids  most aren’t well educated about what makes age appropriate content, the book will be distributed to parents at kindergartens across Hong Kong.
