Cynopsis: Kids!
02/17/12

Good morning. It’s Friday, February 17, 2012, and this your first early morning briefing.

BabyTV and DLA, which develops and delivers entertainment solutions for digital distribution platforms (TV, internet and mobile) across select territories, inked a deal that makes BabyTV’s content available via DLA’s VOD platform to subscribers in Latin America. Subscribers now have access, in Spanish and Portuguese, to a catalog of BabyTV’s baby and toddler-aimed shows.

Nickelodeon unveils the nominees for the 25th Annual Kid’s Choice Awards, hosted this year by megastar Will Smith and airing live from USC’s Galen Center in LA on Saturday, March 31, at 8p. Beginning March 1, kids can cast their votes in 20 categories across all of Nickelodeon’s digital outlets, including Nick.com (www.nick.com/kca12), Nick Mobile app, as well as Nickelodeon’s Facebook (www.facebook.com/nickelodeon) page and Twitter (www.twitter.com/nickelodeontv) feed. The entire Orange Carpet pre-show will be streamed live through the apps and website, followed by a live backstage stream during the main show. Kids are also invited to help host Will Smith pull off a big slime event via a new iPad, iPhone and iPod app, and the Nick.com/KCA12, where they need to find slime hidden throughout the photo galleries, news, and videos (all of which will be updated regularly as the show draws closer) in order to enough slime to trigger the big event. Additionally, aided by weekly mission videos featuring Jennette McCurdy, Jerry Trainor, and Nathan Kress, kids will have the chance to earn digital rewards and move up the slime operative ranks. LICENSING

Target Entertainment, licensing agent for Sony Computer Entertainment’s gaming brands across EMEA, sets up new licensees for the PlayStation Portable (PSP) kid-targeted property Invizimals in Spain and Italy. In Spain new licensing partners include Random House (character hand and activity books), Cife (lucky bags and stationery), Juguetes Falomir (board games) and Naipes Heraclio Fournier (memory card game). Signing on in Italy is licensee Cartorama (back-to-school products – backpacks, stationery and diaries, as well as giftware). The third Invizimals, Invizimals, The Lost Tribes, launched November 2011 on PSP and features 70 new creatures, along with 40 of the best Invizimals from the two previous games, in addition to new interactive captures and attacks.

This week marks the worldwide release of the new the WotWots app, Pocket SpottyWot (USD $0.99), for the iPhone and iPad. The new app allows preschoolers to tickle and poke SpottyWot, as well as encourage him to speak and even spin around in his hover chair. To help relax both the user and character, kids can also pet SpottyWot to help him calm down and go to sleep. And in keeping with the WotWots series, the Pocket SpottyWot app encourages preschoolers to find and learn more about animals in the Sneak-a-Peek viewfinder. American Greetings Properties recently signed on for the worldwide licensing and merchandising rights for Pukeko Pictures’ the WotWots preschool property.

MORE KIDS STUFF

Disney Channel premieres its original TV movie Radio Rebel tonight, February 17, at 8p in the US. Staring Debby Ryan (Jessie), Radio Rebel will then roll out on Disney Channel Worldwide. Based on the novel Shrinking Violet by Danielle Joseph, Radio Rebel was filmed in Vancouver and is a production of MarVista and Two 4 the Money Media. The movie stars Debby Ryan (star of the network’s series Jessie) as Tara, a shy high schooler who can hardly speak in front of the boy she likes, but who becomes a confident host of her own nightly podcast from her room, during which she showcases her taste in music and expresses her other opinions. The podcast and its mysterious host become popular both at her school as well as on a local radio station that picks it up. Things get complicated when Tara’s worlds collide. The soundtrack will include Ryan performing the song We Got the Beat.

DHX Media‘s stop-motion animated preschool property Rastamouse is set for a second season on CBeebies. The new season follows Rastamouse and his band Da Easy Crew in 26×11 new episodes, bringing the total number available to 78×11. A Rastamouse Company Production for CBeebies, Rastamouse is produced in the UK by Three Stones Media, in association with Wales’s Dinamo Productions, London-based Little Roots and DHX Media, which handles worldwide TV sales (excluding the UK) and worldwide licensing and merchandising for the property.

Aardman Digital launches the new website for the new CBeebies show, Andy’s Wild Adventures (www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/andys-wild-adventures), which it produced in conjunction with the BBC Natural History Unit. The new website combines video and music content from the show with original interactive elements that will take kids on a trip into the wild through two environments, the Amazon and the African Savannah. Two additional environments, the Arctic and the Rocky Mountains, will debut at the end of March 2012. Aardman Digital’s newly created content for the website includes interactive activities and mini-games designed to help kids understand animal behavior. Targeted to preschoolers, Andy’s Wild Adventures is hosted by Andy Day.

Sterling Children’s Books will release The Olive Branch: Red & Yellow’s Noisy Night, a new bedtime storybook written by Little Airplane‘s founder/president Josh Selig this April 2012. Based on Selig’s The Olive Branch animated series, inspired by his experience working in kid’s TV with Israelis and Palestinians in Jerusalem, the book aims to encourage the messages of peace and mutual respect. Sterling Children’s Books will simultaneously release Red and Yellow plush toys with the publication of the book. The Olive Branch series is produced by Little Airplane’s non-profit Little Light Foundation.

A CYNOPSIS MESSAGE

Friday Fun Fact: Picky linguists will tell you that the feminine version of “dude” is “dudine,” not “dudette.”

Answer to Yesterday’s Trivia Question: What TV family often went camping on Mount Claymore? The Brady Bunch. Kudos to: Dara Monahan-Freelance Writer/Studio City; Pat Brady-CESD/LA; Hillary Powell-Warner Bros. Pictures/LA.

Today’s Trivia Question: Benny the Ball was the right hand man to whom? (Email [email protected] with your answer and be sure to include your name, company, city and time zone.
