Cynopsis: Kids!
08/20/10
Good morning. It’s Friday, August 20, 2010, and this is your first early morning Kids briefing.
Family Channel (Canada) gives the go ahead on three new live-action comedy series, each with multiplatform opportunities and all of which will premiere in spring 2011.
- Decidedly Debra (13×30) – the series follows Debra, a vivacious teen with her own style and attitude, and her pal Preston as Debra sets out to star her own business. Produced by Cookie Jar Entertainment, Decidedly Debra is created by Andrew Nicolls and Darrel Vickers (writers on Jimmy Neutron, Fairly OddParents, Back at the Barnyard)
- Really Me (13×30) – When friends Maddy and Julia get their own reality TV series the girls dream of endorsement deals and all the perks they think will go along with the show … but … with a pushy producer, over zealous family members, and 24/7 coverage of their every move things are exactly how they’d imagined. Created by Tom McGillis and Jennifer Pertsch, the series is produced by Fresh TV.
- What’s Up, Warthogs! (100×5)- the short-form series revolves around a group of teens looking to make their school’s morning announcements an entertainment news show. The series will initially rollout on Family.ca (www.family.ca) prior to premiering on the network. Produced by Aircraft Pictures with Dolphin Entertainment’s Bill O’Dowd executive producing, the series is created by Alex Diaz and Julie Sagalowsky. The writing team is led by Dean Batali (That 70s Show, Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
NEW PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT
Seth Rogen lends his voice DreamWorks Animation‘s upcoming 3D feature film Boo U, per Heat Vision. Directed by Tony Leondis (Igor), Rogen plays the lead ghost character in Boo U, who is sent back to school to brush up on how to scare people better. Rogen was also featured in DreamWorks Animation’s Monsters vs. Aliens and Kung Fu Panda (the first movie and the forthcoming sequel) movies, as well as voicing characters in other animated movies such as Fox’s Horton Hears a Who! And Paramount’s The Spiderwick Chronicles.
MORE KIDS STUFF
Popular celebrity blogger Perez Hilton will make a cameo appearance on Nickelodeon‘s series Victorious, next Friday, August 27 at 8p. The episode will be available via Nickelodeon VOD from in September.
activeTV Australia has begun production on season two (39×30) of Apartment 11‘s Prank Patrol. MarVista Entertainment, LA-based indie producer/distributor, will showcase the new season of the kid-targeted Prank Patrol at MipJunior this fall. Of the 39 new episodes, 13 will feature all new original material created by activeTV, with the remaining 26 episodes adapted from the best of the existing Canadian and UK versions of the series. MARKETING/LICENSING
In the UK, BHS inks a deal with Turner CN Enterprises to re-brand the kid’s section of its in-store restaurants as Cartoon Networks Kids Corner. Available at all of BHS in-store restaurants, families have their choice of a Cartoon Network-centric menu featuring characters from the network’s series such as Ben 10, Chowder, Flapjack and Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends. All of the kids meals include fruit, and to play with an activity sheet and crayons. Additionally, 35 BHS in-store restaurants will offer a Cartoon Network Kids Corner ‘Pick and Mix’ unit where kids can choose from five items to take for lunch at school.
Warner Bros. Animation‘s entire Batman Beyond series, which features DC Comic’s Batman, makes its way to DVD this fall. Warner Home Video will release Batman Beyond: The Complete Series ($99.98), which includes 52+ episodes (that’s on nine discs), bonus featurettes and a 24-page booklet, on November 23, 2010. In addition to Will Friedle (Boy Meets World) as Terry McGinnis and Kevin Conroy (Batman: The Animated Series) as Bruce Wayne, Batman Beyond is chock full of celebrity guest voiceovers, including Paul Winfield, Stockard Channing, Seth Green, William H.
