The International Olympic Committee is launching the Olympic Virtual Series
(OVS), the first-ever, Olympic-licensed event for physical and non-physical virtual sports, partnering with five International Sports Federations and game publishers. The org also tapped the talents of DreamHack Sports Games for the marketing and production of the Olympic Virtual Series. The event will take place ahead of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, with the OVS starting May 13 and running through June 23. Partnerships include:

“The Olympic Virtual Series is a new, unique Olympic digital experience that aims to grow direct engagement with new audiences in the field of virtual sports. Its conception is in line with Olympic Agenda 2020+5 and the IOC’s Digital Strategy,” said IOC President Thomas Bach. “It encourages sports participation and promotes the Olympic values, with a special focus on youth.”
Riot Games is dealing out its first Legends of Runeterra World Championship,
dangling a $200,000 prize pool for competitors, as 192 players from the Americas, Europe, and Asia, in addition to ranked and seasonal tournament participants, compete for the 16 seats available for the World Championship finals in September. Players will then compete in a group stage featuring four-player round robins. The top two finishers from each group will then advance to the final, single-elimination stage to crown the first champ.
DreamHack revealed plans for DreamHack Beyond, the new hybrid festival and online multiplayer game, launching July 24 and running through July 31. Activision Blizzard locked in plans for the Mythic Dungeon International Season 1 Global Finals, running April 23-235 on YouTube as eight dungeon racing teams from around the world compete for their share of the $300,000 prize pool and title of World Champions. Finalists will compete in a series of Best of 3, double-elimination matches, on their path to the Grand Finals on April 25.
The Premier League is teaming with Tencent Sports, Tencent Gaming, and EA Sports for the ePremier League to hit China and marking the first ePremier League event to be staged outside of the UK starting April 28 as top Chinese gamers from FIFA Online 4 and content creators and influencers, represent all 20 Premier League clubs. The event will be streamed live by Tencent across China.
ASA Entertainment announced the Super Girl Gamer Series will launch its 2021 campaign with seasonal weekly online tournaments in titles that include League of Legends, Valorant, Hearthstone, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Fortnite from May 15-Nov. 21. Both the world’s top female pros and top-level amateurs will compete for $100,000 in cash and prizes. The Series will kick-off with the Super Girl Gamer Spring Season on May 15 with an all-women’s Valorant tournament that consists of a four-week open qualifier series featuring game play from female players across North America. The top four Valorant teams after the qualifying rounds will advance to the Super Girl Gamer Valorant Championships on June 19 based upon a cumulative ranking points system. The entire Super Girl Gamer Series will be streamed live on Twitch and Facebook Gaming. In its fifth year, with partnerships that include Nissan, Zenni Gaming, Twitch, GameStop, the US Marines, Space Productions and Facebook Gaming,
Ubisoft addressed its approach to the “May Edition” of the Six Invitational 2021, posting that after being authorized by the French government and the local authorities to hold the Six Invitational 2021 in Paris from May 11-23, the French government subsequently announced that flights between Brazil and France were suspended so the company was “evaluating all possible options to ensure that FaZe Clan, MIBR, Ninjas in Pyjamas, Team Liquid, Team oNe eSports and FURIA Esports, can compete in the Six Invitational against the teams from the other regions.”

As the new season of the SMITE Pro League approaches,
the org announced that Alienware signed on to serve as title sponsor for season 8, with the brand set to outfit both the Hi-Rez production studio and player houses with Aurora Ryzen Edition desktop PCs. The new season kicks in on April 23.
Razer signed on for the Razer Invitational – North America, the largest regional online esports tournament open to the entire North American gaming community, according to the announcement, with tournament qualifiers beginning on May 7 and three separate weeklong tournaments on deck. Competitors will have an opportunity to compete in a different title including Fortnite (PC, Console, Mobile), Rainbow 6 Siege (PC), and Brawl Stars (Mobile). “Razer Invitational was founded on the simple idea of creating a pure and competitive platform where every athlete has a chance to compete regardless of their in-game rank, their sponsorship status, or their team affiliations,” said Khang Thai, Senior Global Esports Lead at Razer. “It has now grown into a global phenomenon that represents inclusivity within the esports community. After a very successful Season 2020, we continue our vision for esports with an even bigger Season 2021, making competitive tournament play accessible to everyone around the world and cultivating the next generation of esports athletes.”
Rocket League landed a partnership with Automobili Lamborghini. The car brand will now sponsor the Rocket League Championship Series X Lamborghini Open, Rocket League’s final North American regional event for its Spring Season, as well as a new event called Battle of the Bulls.
NRG Esports buttoned up a deal with Levi’s, marking the brand’s first esports partnership in the US, and outfitting NRG players and streamers in addition to producing co-branded content initiatives. Levi’s will have a presence at NRG’s Hot Pockets Castle gaming headquarters in LA, while NRG will launch a series showcasing NRG influencers that will run across NRG’s YouTube and Twitch channels among other platforms.
Envy Gaming is expanding its ties with Acer, inking a renewal that will see Acer provide all of Envy’s competitive teams with Predator Gaming hardware. Predator’s gaming hardware will also be used by staff in the Predator Gaming Lounge in Dallas.
State Farm signed on as an Official Marketing Partner of Twitch Rivals North America. Tapping into Twitch’s community, State Farm will rollout new elements to the service such as: State Farm Spotlight – bringing the hosts and casters to analyze gameplay and player strategy in this branded broadcast integration; and Entitlement Event – a special Twitch Rivals stream, featuring State Farm as a presenting sponsor.

Team Liquid’s newest signing is Ruben de Ronde,
international DJ and producer from the Netherlands and streamer on Twitch, who will now serve as a brand ambassador. The move extends the team’s string of recent music alliances, with included partnerships with EDM music label Armada Music and pop-rock band Anamanaguchi. Team Liquid previously collaborated with de Ronde during Liquid+’s launch stream in January.

Lakeland University, a private liberal arts university located in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, became an Official Partner of Bucks Gaming for the 2021 NBA 2K League season. The partnership will include a Strive for Success digital program, aimed at driving awareness and supporting recruitment to Lakeland’s esports program. Fans of Overwatch (among other games) were shocked with the announcement that Jeff Kaplan decided to leave Activision Blizzard
after a 19-year run at the company. Aaron Keller, a Blizzard veteran and founding member of the Overwatch team, will be stepping in as game director. “It was truly the honor of a lifetime to have the opportunity to create worlds and heroes for such a passionate audience,” Kaplan said in a post. “I want to express my deep appreciation to everyone at Blizzard who supported our games, our game teams and our players. but i want to say a special thanks to the wonderful game developers that shared in the journey of creation with me.”
aXiomatic Gaming named former Chief Strategy Officer Mark Vela as the company’s new chief executive officer, effective April 30.
