A new study has found that targeting “Movable Middles,” defined as category buyers who are neither loyal to the brand nor to the brand’s competitor, can drive up to 23x return on marketing investment. Key findings from the study, from TransUnion and MMA Global, found targeting the category can yield 9.5x the number of conversions when compared to traditional broad reach tactics, and save marketers more than 50% to achieve the same business outcomes as other targeting tactics. “Though it might seem counterintuitive, we knew from our previous research that marketers leveraging the Movable Middles approach realize significant short-term gains. We now know that these Movable Middles drive growth in the long term as well,” said Michael Schoen, EVP and head of TruAudience Marketing Solutions at TransUnion. “Now we have a validated system to operationalize these insights and we look forward to working with more brands to identify, reach, and measure the effectiveness of targeting their Movable Middles.”
There is a significant frequency imbalance in political advertising, according to programmatic media partner MiQ. On CTV, 80% of targeted households received 19% of tracked impressions at an average frequency of 4.5x, while the remaining 20% of households received 81% of impressions at an average frequency of 77, according to new election TV data. On linear TV, 80% of households accounted for 20% of tracked impressions at an average frequency of 18x, with the top 20% of households receiving 80% of impressions at an average frequency of 301. “The long-standing perception has been that shifting ad spend from linear TV to CTV would help flatten the frequency curve,” said Jesse Contario, MiQ’s RVP of Political. “However, our analysis clearly demonstrates that the frequency skew on CTV is just as problematic as it is on linear TV today. Simply buying streaming does not inherently solve the challenge; how you buy streaming is what matters most.”

National Geographic greenlit “Jaws @50” (w/t), a feature documentary including footage from the 1975 Steven Spielberg classic, as well as behind-the-scenes stories and new interviews. The film will air next summer as part of Nat Geo’s Sharkfest event.
Production is underway on the political espionage thriller “The Agency” for Paramount+ with Showtime, with Michael Fassbender (“The Killer”) set as star and executive producer. George Clooney and Grant Heslov will executive produce through their Smokehouse Pictures with Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios. “Michael Fassbender is one of the most gifted actors of our time,” said Chris McCarthy, Paramount Global Co-CEO and President/CEO, Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios. “He brings a gravitas and nuanced complexity to every character he inhabits which is why we are so excited for him to star in ‘The Agency.’”
Ricky Cobb has signed on to host a new daily show launching later this summer on OutKick. NBC’s annual “Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks” special will be hosted by country artist Mickey Guyton and Zuri Hall (“Access Hollywood”). No surprise that the show will air on Thursday, July 4 from 8-10p, but this year the fireworks will launch from barges along the Hudson River, instead of the East River, where they launched for the past nine years. The show will also feature a never-before-seen firework, a silver cascading burst with a center kaleidoscope and alternating red and blue.

The Recording Industry Association of America and US record labels including Sony Music Entertainment, UMG Recordings and Warner Records have filed lawsuits against AI music generators Suno and Idio for copyright infringement. RIAA chief legal officer Ken Doroshow said the lawsuits are necessary to “reinforce the most basic rules of the road for the responsible, ethical, and lawful development of generative AI systems.” Suno AI CEO responded to the legal effort with a statement saying that the technology is “designed to generate completely new outputs, not to memorize and regurgitate pre-existing content” and doesn’t allow users to reference specific artists.
Multiple AI companies are bypassing a common web standard used by publishers to block the scraping of their content, according to content licensing startup TollBit. Reuters reports that in a letter to publishers, TollBit said “numerous” AI agents appear to be ignoring protocol robots.txt. “What this means in practical terms is that AI agents from multiple sources (not just one company) are opting to bypass the robots.txt protocol to retrieve content from sites,” wrote TollBit, without naming the companies. “The more publisher logs we ingest, the more this pattern emerges.”

Paramount Global is raising the price of Paramount+ with Showtime by $1, to $12.99/month, the price of the Paramount+ Essential plan by $2, to $7.99/ month, and upping the Paramount+ Limited Commercial Plan by $1, to $7.99 (with some differences between existing and new subscribers). It’s a trend – Max recently raised its prices, and Peacock will next month.
The University of Texas is relaunching a reimagined LHN (Longhorn Network) as a live and on-demand streaming service on July 1. Powered by Endeavor Streaming, in partnership with Learfield Studios, the service will bring Texas fans access to original content and live programming, as well games from the past decade, spanning all 21 of Texas Athletics’ programs.

As it prepares for the launch of ad-supported Disney+ in Latin America, Disney is bringing its slate of audience solutions, including Disney’s Audience Graph and clean room technology, to the global market for the first time. Disney’s new Bridge ID will serve as the digital key bridging Disney’s Audience Graph to the data capabilities of advertisers. In addition, Disney Advertising has announced an agreement with Mercado Libre (MELI), an online commerce and digital banking platform in LATAM. MELI will include the Disney+ Standard with Ads Tier as its SVOD service within its loyalty program MELI+ offer in Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Chile, and Colombia, at launch. Disney is also teaming up with MELI and Mercado Ads, creating a direct integration with Disney’s Real Time Ad Exchange to unlock more biddable opportunities in streaming for advertisers in Latin America.
Netflix secured international rights to drama series “See Her Again,” from Chinese streamer Tencent Video and Drama Apple. The news broke at the Shanghai TV Festival.
Wedotv has struck a deal with Germany’s DF1 to carry coverage of the SailGP events from its FAST channel wedotv sports. In exchange, wedotv sports will cover the MotoGP from DF1 as part of its overall content portfolio on wedotv sports. In addition, wedotv sports has acquired rights Asian Tour of Golf and the 52 Super Series for its FAST channel and AVoD platform in Germany.
Australia’s Fred Media has launched its first FAST channel in Europe.
