Sony Pictures Television has finalized a licensing agreement with Paramount Global linear cable networks for nine seasons of the “The King of Queens,” which will include streaming rights on Paramount+ and Pluto TV for the first time. “Paramount recognized the importance of consolidated cross-platform negotiations years ago to deliver entertainment to audiences anywhere and everywhere they consume content,” said Barbara Zaneri, Chief Program Acquisitions Officer, Paramount Global. “We look forward to continuing to execute industry-leading deals that give fans more ways to watch what they love across our multiplatform ecosystem of cable and streaming products.”

CBS News has shut down its Tokyo bureau; Liz Palmer, who had been based in Tokyo, will remain with CBS News in a different location. But CBS hasn’t abandoned Tokyo coverage. “CBS News will continue to have a team in Asia, including an on-air correspondent,” said a network rep. “We also have a partnership with the BBC which provides us with additional resources in the region.”

As Disney celebrates its resounding victory in its proxy war, a former ABC director of development is taking the network, Disney and director John Ridley, whose production company has a deal with Disney, to court. Asta Jonasson, an Asian American woman, claims she was fired in 2022 in retaliation for filing a complaint about unequal pay due to her gender and race. Jonasson is seeking a jury trial, and unspecified damages. “The allegations against Mr. Ridley are false, and the allegation that Mr. Ridley is biased against Asian-Americans is preposterous,” responded attorney Jennifer Redmond. “We look forward to proving as much in court.”

FOX News Media and Greg Gutfeld inked a multi-year contract extension that calls for Gutfeld to continue as host of FNC late-night hit “Gutfeld!” and co-host of “The Five,” as well as host/produce FOX Nation programming “from time to time.” Said Gutfeld, “Since joining the network in 2007, FOX News has given me the freedom to be unabashedly myself and, in turn, deliver a distinct experience for our audience. There aren’t many platforms that allow this type of creative independence.”

Latino Alternative TV announced the formation of LatiNation Media, launching as the parent brand to LATV’s linear, AVOD, and FAST network, as well as its expanded LatiNation Digital, LatiNation Studios, and LatiNation Creative. “LatiNation Media represents not just an expansion but an unprecedented resource for brands wanting to form lasting and impactful connections with today’s most influential audience,” said CEO Andres Palencia. “This pivotal moment marks the culmination of our journey toward launching an all-encompassing media entity powered by authentic bilingual Latino content. It is a true game-changer for the industry.”

Hulu has ordered competition “Dress My Tour,” calling for aspiring designers to create outfits for celebrities. Supermodel Kate Upton hosts the series from Releve Entertainment and All3Media America.

Boat Rocker inked a deal with Shark Teeth Films for three new unscripted series. The agreement will include a fourth installment of “Secrets in the Ice,” along with “Discovered by Disaster” docuseries “Secrets in the Dark.”

NEW & RETURNING SERIES

“Zillow Gone Wild,” inspired by the Instagram that features outrageous, one-of-kind homes, debuts Friday, May 3, at 10:30p. Jack McBrayer (“30 Rock”) hosts.

“Theresa Caputo: Beyond the Readings,” companion series to “Theresa Caputo: Raising,” premieres Thursday, April 18 at 9p on Lifetime.

INSP drama “Elkhorn” launches Thursday, April 11 at 9p. The series follows 25-year-old Theodore Roosevelt as he abandons New York politics and journeys to the lawless Dakota Badlands, where he attempts to remake himself into a cowboy and a cattleman.

Hyundai will be the presenting sponsor for season three of “Secretos de Villanas.” It’s the third consecutive year the auto company has sponsored the Canela.TV series. This time around, the partnership will include new custom content integrations. “We’re excited to extend our sponsorship of ‘Secretos de Villanas’ and authentically engage with the U.S. Hispanic market,” said Erik Thomas, Director of Experiential Marketing, Hyundai Motor America. “Canela Media plays a crucial role as a strategic partner in amplifying Hyundai’s dedication to innovation and adventure alongside the talented cast.”

COMING UP

FOX Nation will debut two-part docuseries “Surviving Hamas: A Benjamin Hall Special” on Wednesday, April 9. Hosted by FOX News correspondent Hall, two hour-long episodes will explore the devastating firsthand experiences of individuals in the Israeli community following the October 7 attack.

CMT has set an all-star tribute to Toby Keith, featuring a lineup of performances from Brooks & Dunn, Lainey Wilson and Sammy Hagar, backed by Keith’s longtime band. The tribute to the country music legend, who died February 5 at age 62, will also include special appearances by Lukas Nelson and Roger Clemens. “CMT Music Awards Celebrates Toy Keith” (w/t) premieres Thursday, April 11 at 10p.

SOLAR ECLIPSE COVERAGE

There will be no shortage of coverage of Monday’s solar eclipse. NBCUniversal Local will present comprehensive content on its NBC and Telemundo streaming news channels, beginning at 12p. The FAST channels will feature multiple hours of bilingual coverage, with reporting from Mexico to Maine.

CBS News and Stations will provide multiplatform coverage of the phenomenon with “Total Eclipse of the Heartland,” airing on CBS and the CBS News Streaming Network at 2p.

The Weather Channel will cover event with meteorologists broadcasting live from 7 locations across the United States. In addition to a detailed dashboard forecasting weather conditions for cities and towns in the path, TWC will feature an interactive live chat, called Follow the Shadow, hosted by meteorologist Heather Zons.

FOX Weather is airing marathon coverage leading up to and throughout the solar eclipse. For “America’s Total Eclipse,” FOX Weather will dispatch correspondents and meteorologists across the country.

ABC News and Nat Geo will offer two-hour live special “Eclipse Across America,” a live event anchored by ABC’s David Muir and Linsey Davis, featuring other ABC News correspondents and Nat Geo talent and Explorers.

TECH

Samba TV unveiled new technology offering political advertisers next day precision ad targeting to better reach shifting voting audiences at the regional, state, and national level throughout the 2024 political season. Yahoo and TelevisaUnivision, are two early adopters of the new solution, named Real Time Political Audiences. “This election cycle will be more challenging than ever to reach voters,” said National Media Research Chief Innovation Officer Adam Wise. “As we are well underway with the presidential campaigns, it is crucial to integrate a comprehensive understanding of your audience into your targeting strategy.”

Microsoft is making updates to the bidding options available for native ads in the Microsoft Advertising Platform. On April 30, manual cost per click (CPC) bidding will no longer be available for newly created native campaigns. Starting on May 13, all existing image and feed campaigns on a manual CPC bid strategy will upgrade to enhanced CPC.

Captify and Magnite are partnering to enable advertisers to leverage on-site search intent data to address audiences on programmatic CTV ad inventory for the first time. Captify’s semantic technology ingests all the search terms made on millions of publisher websites, analyzing and categorizing those searches into profiles, interests, and moments, and converts them into audiences. Those audiences are now able to be activated on Magnite CTV inventory. By prequalifying households based on their real-time intent fueled by search behavior, Capify’s Search Intelligence can reveal what audiences are looking for in real-time.

STREAMING

Sixty nine percent of CTV users prefer streaming FAST content to a paid subscription without ads, and 53% spend two or more hours per week using FAST applications, according to a new study released by LG Ad Solutions, “The Big Shift: Wave III.” Additional findings include:
· Time spent searching for what to watch is increasing. While 56% of US CTV users prefer watching content via streaming applications, it now takes viewers almost 12 minutes on average to decide what to watch, up from 6 minutes the prior year. Thirty-eight percent cite too many content choices as their top challenge when looking for content to watch, and 37% say they can’t remember what platform content is on.
· Sixty-three percent of viewers are likely to sign up for a streaming subscription service to watch specific content and then cancel/pause their subscription after watching.
· Forty-two percent of viewers prefer ads that have interactive features.

“As content continues to proliferate across channels and platforms, making content more discoverable through strategies like leveraging the OEM Home Screen will be vital to capture consumer eyeballs. In fact, two in five CTV users already rely on the TV home screen for content recommendations, and we expect that to continue to grow,” said Tony Marlow, CMO at LG Ad Solutions.

ESPN’s upcoming new streaming service will be part of the Disney bundle when it launches in 2025, said Disney CEO Bob Iger at the company’s shareholder meeting. The standalone service will include all of ESPN’s channels and rights packages, along with fantasy sports, betting and ecommerce.

Beyoncé’s music video catalog saw a +346% lift in Global daily music video views, with a +654% lift in US daily views after the launch of her Cowboy Carter album on March 29, according to Vevo. The album launch also generated a 38% jump in global daily music in the entire Country music genre within the same time period. Other music videos getting the halo effect were Lil Nas X , whose “Jolene” (Dolly Parton Cover) in the Live Lounge saw a +269% lift in US daily views, and Olivia Newton-John, whose “Jolene” version saw a 94% lift in US daily views.

Diamond Sports Group announced a multiyear carriage renewal deal with Charter Communications, as it prepares to complete a bankruptcy restructuring. The Sinclair Broadcast Group subsidiary will have its content carried on Charter’s $74.99/month Spectrum Select Plus tier. “Extending our distribution relationship with Charter is a key milestone and an important part of our go-forward plan, as we remain focused on restructuring the company and moving forward as a sustainable, profitable business,” said Diamond CEO David Preschlack. “We expect this agreement to generate value for Diamond, Charter and our team and league partners, and enable us to continue providing high-quality broadcasts for passionate local fans. We believe this agreement can serve as a model in the ongoing time-sensitive negotiations with our other distribution partners to reach carriage agreements that work for all parties.”

James Palmer, Melissa Stark, Andrew Siciliano and Will Selva are checking out of NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football.” Said NFLN in a statement, “As is normal course of business this time of year, we are evaluating our talent roster for the upcoming 2024 season and beyond. That process results in renewals, non-renewals and additions to our talent lineup depending on programming needs.”

Youth and high school diamond sports platform Perfect Game announced its investor group which is made up, in part, of 21 former and active major league players.
