Disney took aim at activist investor Nelson Peltz and his firm, Trian Fund Management, in a video posted on VoteDisney.com. Peltz is gunning for seats on the Disney board for himself and former Disney CFO Jay Rasulo. “The Disney board is always open to good ideas from engaged shareholders,” said the video. “But a quick glance at Peltz’s white paper will reveal a surprising number of questionable proposals that reinforce his clear lack of experience in media, not to mention a litany of factual misstatements and quite a few proposals that Disney is already implementing.” The video also noted Rasulo “hasn’t been employed since leaving Disney” in 2015. In response, Trian said the video includes “false and misleading statements.”
Given the challenges of pay-TV, is Fox Corp. considering selling assets? “We’re much more focused on growing the business than we are on selling the business,” said COO John Nallen at Deutsche Bank’s Media, Internet & Telecom Conference on Monday. On the other hand, Fox is “very interested” in acquisitions, said Nallen, while conceding that instead of finding an M&A opportunity, more stock buybacks are likely because “that’s the best return our shareholders can get right now in deploying that capital.”
More than half of Black (56%), Latinx (55%), and Asian (60%) consumers who are not currently 5G wireless home internet subscribers say that they are likely or very likely to consider 5G home internet from a mobile provider when it becomes available in their area, according to Horowitz Research study, “State of Media, Entertainment, and Tech: Disruptions.” Compared to the ISP they had before, 59% of Black and 55% of Latinx and Asian 5G wireless home internet subscribers reported that their 5G service does a better job; roughly a third of each segment felt that 5G service is about the same as broadband when it comes to quality. “Our data show that there is an appetite for more competition in the home internet space, and the wireless providers are being very aggressive with marketing to appeal to multicultural audiences,” said Adriana Waterston, EVP and Insights and Strategy Lead for Horowitz Research. “Retention efforts that focus on delivering value for the money will be key, given that 5G wireless is being promoted as highest-quality internet for a much more affordable price.”
US OOH ad spend in 4Q23 rose by 27% compared to 4Q22, according to Guideline. While local OOH retained the majority of ad spend, national OOH saw a faster rate of growth at 50%, compared to local’s 24%. All OOH media subtypes grew from quarter to quarter, with Events leading at 181%, followed by Cinema at 57%, and Street Furniture/Retail at 54%. Apparel & Accessories showed the highest increase in OOH spend, up by 66%, while Quick Serve Restaurants decreased investment by 19.5%.

Versus Originals has partnered with The Explorers Club to mine material from the club’s archive. “The Explorers Club and its members have been behind some of the biggest achievements in human history. In a filing on Monday, Reddit Inc. said it is seeking to raise as much as $748 million in its initial public offering. The company and its investors are planning to sell 22 million shares for $31-$34 each. About 15.3 million those shares will be sold by the company, and the rest by investors and Reddit employees.
