Linear TV ad spend in the fourth quarter decreased by -7% year over year, according to an analysis by Guideline, marking the largest Q4 decrease since the company began tracking ad spend in 2017. “Q4 2023 represented a microcosm of the US National Linear TV landscape,” said Nicole McCurnin Director at Guideline. “Live Sports ad revenue and market share alike crested, thanks to the NFL, while Entertainment programming waned to a trough, amid a challenging climate of labor strikes and streaming services.” Only Pharmaceuticals expanded investment in the quarter, rising +3.5% year over year, while retail held flat.

Prepare for advertiser surge in AI-powered dynamic creative optimization. At least that’s what a Yahoo poll of over 300 advertisers indicates – 82% are deeply committed to DCO in 2024. “The cookieless landscape puts more importance on creative, and our findings show that advertisers recognize the opportunity that DCO has to offer,” said Tony Gemma, VP, Head of Global Ad Creative at Yahoo. “Those embracing DCO will benefit by boosting campaign engagement with the potential to yield better outcomes.”

First golf, then tennis. Now Netflix has entered the boxing ring, with a fight between 57-year-old heavyweight great Mike Tyson and 27-year-old Jake Paul on Saturday, July 20. “I’m very much looking forward to stepping into the ring with Jake Paul at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas,” said Tyson. “It will be a lot of fun to see what the will and ambition of a ‘kid’ can do with the experience and aptitude of a GOAT. Disney has sold out ad inventory for Sunday’s Oscars telecast on ABC, with WalletHub estimating a price tag of $1.85 million for a 30-second spot. Brand categories spanning apparel, automotive, beverage, consumer packaged goods, entertainment, financial services, healthcare, insurance, luxury spirits, media & entertainment, pet care, pharmaceutical, retail, streaming, technology and telecom will be represented during the telecast.

Chris Harrison, who exited “The Bachelor” franchise after 19 years in 2021, has landed at Dr. Phil’s Merit Street Media. Harrison will host a morning show with his wife, Lauren Zima, and a dating series, and contribute to network anchor “Dr. Phil Primetime.” Harrison, who left “The Bachelor” after insensitive comments drew backlash, told “ET,” “Call it divine intervention, karma, kismet, whatever it is, the fact that Dr. Phil created this network in my own backyard here in Dallas, it means the world to me to, not only be returning to television, but to be doing it here in a hometown crowd.”

TNT Sports will premiere a new weeknight sports programming block on truTV, beginning Monday, March 11, the week prior to the start of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship. The new primetime programming window will consist of live sports, original sports shows, and ancillary sports content.

Meanwhile, “Impractical Jokers,” a top performing series on truTV, will move to its new home on TBS with fresh episodes this summer. The series will continue to simulcast on both truTV and TBS through early April with back-to-back episodes on Thursday, March 7, and following the NCAA Men’s Final Four National Semifinals on Saturday, April 6.

Vivendi reported 7.5% growth in full-year core earnings, boosted by its Havas, Canal+ businesses and the integration of Lagardère. As for a split into four listed companies – Havas, CANAL+, a publishing and distribution firm, and an investment company – aimed at boosting their valuation, CEO Arnaud de Puyfontaine told reporters that he had presented details of progress made on the project to the supervisory board on Thursday.

Both will serve as Executive Producers, alongside Michael Ellenberg, Lars Blomgren and Lindsey Springer of Media Res, as well as The Astrid Lindgren Company.

“Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue” scored a greenlight from MGM+, and “Will & Grace” star Eric McCormack is the first actor to be cast. The mystery thriller was written, created and executive produced by Anthony Horowitz (“Magpie Murders”) and produced by Eleventh Hour Films.

CNN Original Series, “Space Shuttle Columbia: The Final Flight” examines the 2003 Space Shuttle disaster, featuring exclusive interviews and never-before-broadcast footage. The four-part series will premiere with two episodes on Sunday, April 7 at 9p on CNN.

Oprah Winfrey hosts a conversation around the impact of prescription weight loss medications on “An Oprah Special: Shame, Blame and the Weight Loss Revolution,” airing Monday, March 18 at 8p on ABC.

NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo will sit down with Tucker Carlson on Monday, March 11 at 8p, for Carlson’s first national TV interview since he was let go from Fox News. Captify announced an expansion of its sustainability efforts through the introduction of a new Green Media Product designed to reduce carbon emissions. When it comes to ad engagement, tennis dominates the list of top women’s sports events, according to EDO’s Women’s Sports TV Outcomes Report. The women’s Wimbledon and U.S. Open matches secured the top two spots in all women’s sports programming, outperforming the average primetime broadcast and cable ad by 53% and 51%, respectively. In the WNBA, ad engagement has grown year-over-year across the Regular Season (7% increase from 2022), Playoffs (+23%), and Finals (+30%). Male-focused advertisers are seeing success during WNBA programming –Bosley Hair Restoration, Old Spice, and Hims outperformed the average WNBA advertiser by 341%, 134%, and 51% respectively.

Comcast announced two new features on X1 for the upcoming Players Championship. Through a new integration with DraftKings, X1 will offer live odds directly on the TV, side-by-side with the coverage. Xfinity Odds Zone will be available for most major sporting events throughout the year, including the upcoming men’s and women’s NCAA basketball tournaments, NBA and NHL playoffs, and for the start of the NFL and MLB seasons. In addition, The Players App brings all live coverage from Players as well as a host of interactive features like a course tour, live leaderboards, etc. into one place.

Foundation Media Partners is representing Varsity Spirit, the company focused on cheerleading, dance team and band apparel, camps and competitions, and yearbooks. IMG has extended its agreement with the Professional Triathletes Organisation to exclusively negotiate and distribute the media rights for the sport’s T100 Triathlon World Tour until 2026. The deal will see IMG manage the broadcast deals for the eight T100 races in markets across Asia, Australasia, Africa, North America (excluding the US) and LATAM, as well as free-to-air rights across Europe.

FOX Sports unveiled its package of Friday night college football games airing on FOX. The primetime slate will feature matchups from the Big Ten, Big 12 and Mountain West conferences. “FOX is football, and our new Friday night package will make FOX the leader in America’s game throughout the weekend,” said Michael Mulvihill, President, Insight and Analytics, FOX Corporation. “We’ve built our collegiate business by seizing opportunities in previously underutilized timeslots, first with “Big Noon Saturday” and now on Friday nights. Our goal this fall is to have the No. 1 college football game on both Fridays and Saturdays and the top NFL game on Sundays.”
