FreemantleMedia North America and online lifestyle network StyleHaul announced a multi-year and multi-series deal. The first series under the partnership will be called The Crew, and will consist of ten episodes of an entertainment talk show featuring YouTube stars like Marcus Butler and Alfie Deyes. The Crew will debut in January 2014 on StyleHaul’s network, which already boasts 104 million subscribers.
MakerStudios has rebranded its original comedy channel, The Station, as Nacho Punch. The channel will showcase Maker’s comedic talent including KassemG, Steve Kardynal and Nathan Barnatt. Nacho Punch released its first video yesterday, titled Spice Boys.
As kids programmers and distributors search for new ways to reach advertisers and viewers, online games and apps have emerged as an effective method to drive engagement–and ultimately revenue and ratings. Because tablets, game consoles and smart phones are often the first places kids connect with brands and shows, more and more kids marketers are using games and apps to connect with them. DreamWorks Animation announced it has created the first Netflix original series for kids called Turbo FAST. The first five episodes will premiere on Dec. 24; the rest will be released throughout the year. The series is based on DreamWorks Animation’s movie Turbo, which grossed a whopping $280 million.
Believe Entertainment Group premiered a new game show comedy series called Money Where Your Mouth Is on Hulu yesterday. The show, hosted by Jay Mohr, revolves around a group of friends competing for each other’s prized possessions. Each of the first season’s ten episodes is 15 minutes long.
British programming network Acorn TV has added 150 episodes from series like Mr. & Mrs. Murder, and Les Petits Meurtres D’Agatha Christie 1, exclusively for U.S. consumers. The episodes can be watched at www.AcornTV.com or on its Roku channel.
Bud Light created a new branded web series called Hold My Beer, directed by The Office‘s John Krasinski. The series parodies men doing outrageous things after asking a friend to hold their Bud Light beer. The videos are on Bud Light’s YouTube channel.
The Sportsman Channel announced that its Facebook followers grew by 77 percent in 11 months, surpassing 500,000 “likes” on the social site. It now wears the crown of best in interactive engagement in the Outdoor TV channel category.

Time Inc. announced Land Rover as its first client for its new native ad product, Watercooler Live. AdWeek reports that the ad platform will integrate social activity and advertisements into its editorial content. Three more clients are expected to launch in the first quarter of 2014.
Yahoo-owned blogging site Tumblr announced yesterday that it is now selling sponsored trending blogs for its mobile app. They will be identified with a dollar symbol to distinguish the paid-for from organic content, and will appear in the “explore” tab on the mobile app. The first sponsored ad appeared yesterday from 20th Century Fox, promoting the film Devil’s Due.
Marketing tech platform Unruly released research showing branded video sharing is 50 times higher in 2013 than in 2006. The top three ads in 2013, Dove’s “Real Beauty Sketches,” GEICO’s “Hump Day,” and Evian’s “Baby & Me” have seen 11.6 million shares, which is 47.5 times more than the top three ads in 2006 (which scored just 244,395 shares, combined). The study also found that the top videos all run on average more than a minute each, while in 2006 they each only ran 30 seconds.
The fourth largest U.S. video platform, NDN (NewsInc), has hired John Vilade as Executive Vice President of Ad Sales. Vilade comes to NDN after four years at Hulu where he was Vice President of National Advertising Sales for the Eastern and Central Regions.
TV commerce company Delivery Agent announced it has hired Michael Novelly as its new Chief Financial Officer. Prior to Delivery Agent, Novelly was CFO of Discovery Books.
Lifestyle Media Partners announced its new partnership and formation of food enthusiast website Edible Media. New hires for the site include Varanya Vadakan as Chief Operations Officer and Chief Financial Officer, as well as Brian Quinn as Chief Revenue Officer. Susan Wyland will be Edible Media’s www.EdibleFeast.com’s Chief Content Officer.
