Near-Field Magnetic Induction: An NFMI communication system is a short-range, wireless physical layer that communicates by coupling a tight, low-power, non-propagating magnetic field between devices. The concept is for a transmitter coil in one device to modulate a magnetic field, which is measured by means of a receiver coil in another device. Some companies use NFMI to enable Bluetooth communications to earphones.
In its first-ever deal with Louis C.K., Hulu has acquired the exclusive streaming rights to Horace and Pete, an original series revolving around an Irish-American bar. After becoming available for purchase on Louis C.K.’s website earlier this year, all 10 episodes of the groundbreaking series officially make their streaming debut today to subscribers across all Hulu-enabled devices.
The two Republicans on the Federal Communications Commission said they want to overturn the net neutrality rules after President-elect Donald Trump takes office. Passed by a 3-2 vote last year, the rules reclassified broadband as a utility service and imposed some common carrier rules on broadband providers. Commissioner Ajit Pai, an outspoken critic of the net neutrality order, said this week that he believes its "days are numbered," MediaPost reports. He may well be right.

Tremor Video has partnered with motion picture company EuropaCorp to enable the company to use data and tech to reach moviegoers. EuropaCorp is the first studio to use Tremor Video‘s in-theater attribution solution, powered by Alphonso’s automatic content recognition (ACR) technology. EuropaCorp’s Miss Sloane premiere this week marks the first time ACR technology is being used for closed-loop attribution.

Time Inc.’s People/Entertainment Weekly Network’s (PEN) full coverage of the 22nd Annual Critics’ Choice Awards kicks off with the premiere of PEN’s "Critics’ Choice Awards Nomination Special," now streaming. Hosted by Toure and Jessica Shaw, co-hosts of the PEN original series "BingeWorthy," the special will make its network television debut on A&E Network on Sunday, December 11 at 6 p.m. ET, marking the first PEN special syndicated for network television.
Google’s Daydream VR headset is getting up to speed with its content partnerships. HBO Now and HBO Go apps have launched for the headset. Google says Daydream will also feature a Netflix app before 2017 rolls around.
Oscar-winning director Peggy Stern, a dyslexic, is launching video startup Dyslexiaville, a new channel made for and by kids dealing with the issue. It’s initially launching as a YouTube channel with distribution to select schools. With the assistance of her daughter Emma, who is also dyslexic, Stern’s first output is The Super d! Show, the first web series for and by kids with dyslexia and other learning disabilities.
Industrial Brothers, CBC and The Jim Henson Company have launched a new digital property, "Dotopedia." The application is based on the hit animated series "Dot." produced by Industrial Brothers, in association with CBC and The Jim Henson Company and currently available on Kids’ CBC and Sprout, NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment’s 24-hour preschool network in the U.S.
