ADVERTISING

Broadcast and cable TV is still the best way for brands to reach audiences, according to a new report from the Video Advertising Bureau. Eighty-five percent of consumer purchases are driven by emotional attachment, and audiences are six times more likely to consider television advertising emotional or memorable versus social media advertising, according to “Be Still My Viewing Heart.” “In order for advertisers to truly make an impact on the bottom line, they must quickly and effectively create meaningful connections with their audiences,” said VAB president and CEO Sean Cunningham. “More than half of consumers say they recall ads they’ve seen and respond emotionally to them (64% and 58%, respectively) to TV advertising, allowing brands to showcase their messages and develop lasting relationships with and consumers.”

Y&R’s BAV Group has launched BAVSocial, a new model that measures the influence on social media on long-term brand performance. The model brings together hundreds of social listening metrics and links them with the BrandAsset Valuator, a database of consumer brand perceptions. “BAVSocial takes everything we know about a brand’s equity and links it to what we know about a brand in the social universe,” said Kyle Boots, who will lead the unit as director of social analytics and insights. “Aligning BAV’s 24 years of data against the real-time flow of social engagement metrics enables our clients to be smarter, more creative and effective in how they engage with customers.”

Nicki Minaj will star in H&M’s upcoming holiday campaign. Love between the singer and retailer began when Minaj wore an H&M gown to the 2017 MET Gala.
