11/30/20: The PGA TOUR locked in a deep partnership with the European Tour

The European Tour and PGA TOUR are teaming up in a strategic alliance that will now see golf’s two major Tours “explore all facets of collaboration, working together on strategic commercial opportunities including collaborating on global media rights in certain territories,” according to the announcement. As part of the deal, the PGA TOUR acquire a minority investment stake in European Tour Productions, the European Tour’s Media Production company, which produces and distributes content internationally. The Tours will also partner in a number of other areas including global scheduling, prize funds and playing opportunities for the respective memberships. Further details of these areas will be announced in due course and PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan will take a seat on the Board of the European Tour.

PROGRAMMING

The NBA and the Indiana Pacers are pushing NBA All-Star in Indianapolis, which was originally scheduled for Feb. 12-14, 2021, to Feb. 16-18, 2024 as a result of public health conditions preventing the league from planning and executing fan-focused All-Star activities in Indianapolis. The 2024 NBA All-Star Game will take place at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on Feb. 18, 2024. Plans for a revised NBA All-Star 2021 will be announced at a later date.

The NBA also released its game schedule for the 2020 preseason, with play tipping off on Dec. 11 and running through Dec. 19. Each NBA team will play a minimum of two and a maximum of four games as part of the league’s 49-game preseason schedule. Every team will play at least one home game and one road game in the preseason.

FOX Sports announced over the weekend that the Big Ten Championship Game will be shifting to the network’s premier Big Noon Saturday time slot, at noon on Dec. 19. Big Noon Kickoff will then be live from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis at 10a.

Meanwhile, CBS Sports announced its college football Saturday showcase for Dec. 5 at 3:30p will showcase the SEC on CBS matchup between Florida/Tennessee. Carter Blackburn, Aaron Murray and reporter Jenny Dell call the action from Neyland Stadium in Knoxville.

ESPN Events added West Virginia to the Jimmy V Men’s Classic Presented by Corona, here they will face Gonzaga on Dec. 2 at 7p on ESPN at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. West Virginia replaces Tennessee, which withdrew Tuesday due to health protocols.

The Week 12 Ravens/Steelers game has been moved to Tuesday at 8p on NBC. Should the game be played at that time, the Week 13 Cowboys/Ravens game, originally scheduled for Thursday, will be moved to Dec. 7, at 5p and be broadcast nationally on FOX/NFL Network/Amazon.

Due to new Santa Clara County restrictions re: COVID-19 that bans all contact sports and mandates a 14-day quarantine for anyone traveling into the area from 150 miles away, the San Francisco 49ers will likely play their final three home games at State Farm Stadium, home of the Arizona Cardinals, according to NFL.com.

The National Women’s Hockey League revealed plans to present the upcoming season and 2021 Isobel Cup Playoffs at the 1980 Rink-Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, NY between January 23 – February 5, 2021 in a bubble format. The event is presented in partnership with the New York State Olympic Regional Development Authority. “The NWHL is excited to provide hockey fans a fast-paced schedule of thrilling games on the road to the Isobel Cup,” said NWHL Interim Commissioner Tyler Tumminia, who led the Lake Placid project since taking over in mid-October. “The continued challenges brought by the pandemic resulted in a mandate for our league, players and partners to collaborate on creating a controlled environment protecting the health of everyone involved. At a time of hyper-growth for girls’ and women’s hockey, we see this season as a celebration of the sport. This will be a historic moment as the hallowed arena that was the site of the “Miracle on Ice” in 1980 hosts its first women’s professional championship. It is a proud moment for the NWHL, the players, and all hockey fans.”

The New Orleans Pelicans landed Ibotta for a new partnership agreement in which the mobile rewards platform will become the team’s official jersey patch partner. Learfield IMG College cemented partnerships with Esports Engine, Mainline, and Endeavor for the company’s Level Next collegiate esports league. In cooperation with EA and Endeavor, Esports Engine will serve as the org’s broadcast and production partner while Mainline will become the competition’s official esports tournament operator.

Ubisoft revealed plans for Rainbow Six Siege esports, impacted by the pandemic, including shifting the 2020 Regional Finals to January 2021 in some regions. In Europe, the Regional Finals will now run Jan. 15-17. Asia’s Regional Finals will be split between three regions (North Division, Oceania, and South Asia), with the tournaments set for January 8-10. Details also reveal that the Six Invitational 2021 will still take place with plans to feature 20 teams to compete offline, following strict sanitary procedures. The Rainbow Six World Cup will no longer take place in 2021, and is being postponed until at least 2022.

The Premier League and Electronic Arts are launching the third season of ePremier League with representatives for all 20 clubs will competing. Over the last two seasons, the finals reached more than 22 million fans. Premier League Commercial Director Will Brass said: “The EA SPORTS FIFA video game series is one of the key channels through which fans all over the world can engage with Premier League clubs and players.
