Late night host Jimmy Kimmel has been enlisted to return as host of the Oscars. Kimmel hosted the broadcasts in 2017 and 2018. “Being invited to host the Oscars for a third time is either a great honor or a trap,” said Kimmel. “Either way, I am grateful to the Academy for asking me so quickly after everyone good said ‘no’.” The ceremony airs Sunday, March 12 on ABC.
Kimmel will get a little practice hosting a live show with tonight’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on ABC. The show is airing live versus taping in the afternoon to enable Kimmel to cover midterm election news. His guests will be Bill Maher and George Conway. Stephen Colbert will also be going live for his CBS late-nighter.
Seventy-one percent of TV consumers say they’ve discovered a show in the past year that has become a favorite, and 75% say that show is a show they watch on a streaming service, according to Hub study, “2022 Conquering Content Research.” Twenty-three percent of respondents reported watching from an MVPD source, and 2% watch via OTA. The proportion saying their new favorite show is a Netflix show peaked in 2020 (at 38%), dropped 3 points to 35% in 2021, and has declined 6 points in 2022, to 29%. After reaching a low of 15% in 2021, live TV from a traditional MVPD service has jumped back up 6 points in 2022, to 21%. Also increasing since 2021: the “Big 5 SVODs” outside of Netflix (Amazon Prime, Hulu, Disney+, and HBO Max), up 4 points from 21% to 25%.
Havas Media Group North America has announced the full US rollout of its specialized multicultural media practice. “With multicultural consumers making up more than 40% of the US population and $3.9 trillion in spending power, the current American landscape is the most culturally diverse and technologically fluent in history,” said Greg Walsh, CEO, Havas Media. “We are committed to delivering ethical and inclusive media experiences that reflect the shifting cultural diversity in America.” Anabela Bonuccelli, EVP Portfolio Lead will oversee the practice in the US.
Ethnic and female representation among employees at ANA member companies is the highest it’s been since the ANA began tracking DEI levels in 2018, according to “A Diversity Report for the Advertising/Marketing Industry.” The report revealed that 27.4% of senior-level executives are ethnically diverse, while 14.6% of CMOs are ethnically diverse.
Syndicated talker “The Kelly Clarkson Show” has been renewed through 2025 by NBCUniversal. The show has averaged 1.34 million viewers and grown its audience for the second consecutive season. “As the fourth season reaches new heights of critical acclaim and viewership, Kelly has used her genuine warmth and natural curiosity to create an engaging, fun show,” said Valari Staab, Chairman, NBCUniversal Local. “’The Kelly Clarkson Show’ is a treasured part of our programming lineup, and we’re enthusiastic about its continued longevity.”
Season five of ABC’s “A Million Little Things” will be the ensemble drama’s last. The final installment premieres Wednesday, February 8 at 10p. “I am both honored and humbled by all of it and am so in awe of the incredible actors, writers, directors and crew who lend their talent to make our show,” said creator DJ Nash. “I am also so grateful that ABC now makes mental health awareness one of the top issues for which it advocates.”

Netflix ordered two more seasons of the Ryan Murphy “Monster” franchise as “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” rolls toward 1 billion views. Netflix also ordered a second season of Murphy’s hit “The Watcher.”
Sam Miller (“I May Destroy You”) is set to direct and executive produce the upcoming limited series “A Gentleman in Moscow,” an adaptation of Amor Towles’ bestselling novel. Set to start production early next year, the limited run series is produced by eOne in association with Paramount. The series will debut exclusively on Showtime in the US, Paramount + in the U.K and all international markets where the service is available.
AMPLE Entertainment and Fremantle are partnering on documentary feature “After the Fyre,” which will follow infamous Fyre Festival founder, conman and convicted felon Billy McFarland after he’s released from prison. The film follows the disgraced entrepreneur as he launches his next business venture and attempts to pay back the $26 million dollars he still owes after defrauding investors, partners and attendees of the botched music event that took place in 2017.
Netflix has acquired the rights to Xbox video game “Gears of War,” and is partnering with video game developer The Coalition to develop a feature film and animated series. The game launched in 2006.
APC Studios UK and Irish independent production company Magamedia are co-producing an Irish dark comedy crime drama, “Obituary,” exclusively in the US for Hulu, with RTÉ in Ireland pre-buying the series. Irish actress Siobhán Cullen (“The Dry”) stars.
NBCU Launch, the umbrella brand that houses the DEI efforts for the company’s television portfolio, has unveiled the 2022-23 class of its scripted directors programs, NBCU Launch TV Directors Program and Female Forward. This year’s class includes directors who will helm a Telemundo scripted series as a new combined effort between NBCU Launch and Telemundo’s Mujeres Imparables (Unstoppable Women), a company-wide initiative that seeks to champion and support Latina advancement.
BritBox International has commissioned crime series “Inspector Singh,” which will go into production in January of 2023, produced by London/Singapore-based global 108 Media. The three-part series will be starring Sanjeev Bhaskar (“The Sandman”) in the lead role, with Suri Krishnamma (“Coronation Street”) as series director.
Casting notes (Disney+ edition): Lin Manuel Miranda (“Hamilton”) has joined Disney+ series “Percy Jackson and the Olympians….Disney+ announced the cast for “The Acolyte,” an upcoming original “Star Wars” series from Lucasfilm. HBO docuseries “Branson,” chronicling the adventures of businessman/daredevil Richard Branson, debuts Thursday, December 1 at 10p.
Fox has set its winter 2023 premiere slate. On the way are “Fantasy Island” (January 2), “Celebrity Name That Tune” (January 11), “9-1-1: Lone Star” (January 17), “Next Level Chef “(February 12) and “Animal Control” (February 16), joining fall series making their winter premieres, “The Resident “(January 3), “Hell’s Kitchen” (January 5), “Welcome to Flatch” (January 5) and “Call Me Kat” (January 5). New unscripted series “Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test” will debut with a special two-hour event (January 4), “Alert” launches Sunday, January 8 after NFL on FOX, and new crime thriller “Accused” arrives Sunday, January 22.
ABC also unveiled its midseason lineup. “The Rookie” moves to a new night starting Tuesday, January 3 at 8p, followed by spin-off “The Rookie: Feds” in its new 9p timeslot. New series “Will Trent” premieres at 10p. “Abbott Elementary” returns from hiatus on January 4 at 9p, followed by the winter premiere of “Home Economics at 9p, and “Big Sky: Winter Trails” at 10p. “Celebrity Jeopardy!” moves to a new night on Thursday, January 5 at 8p, followed by the regular time period premiere of “The Parent Test” at 9p, and “The Chase” on a new night at time at 10p. “Not Dead Yet” gets an early series premiere on Wednesday, February 8 at 8:30p, followed by its regular timeslot debut at 9p. “The Company You Keep” has its series launch on Sunday, February 19 at 10p.
NBC’s “New Amsterdam” will return from its season five hiatus on January 3 at 10p, and air its two-hour series finale on January 17 at 9p. The final episode will be preceded by the launch of new comedy/reboot “Night Court.”
In more NBC midseason moves, “America’s Got Talent All-Star” premieres Monday, January 2 at 8p, with “Quantum Leap” back from hiatus at 10p. The net’s trio of “Chicago” procedurals return from hiatus on January 5. Season premieres include “American Auto” (Tuesday, January 24 at 8:30p); “Magnum P.I.”, moved from CBS, and “Found” on Sunday, February 19; “The Blacklist” on Sunday, February 26 at 8p; “The Voice” on Monday, March 6 at 8p; and “That’s My Jam” on Tuesday, March 7 at 10p.
VH1’s “The Love Experiment,” a new series that brings dating apps to life, premieres Monday, November 28 at 9p, followed by the premiere of “Shaunie & Keion’s Destination ‘I Do’,” a special following Shaunie Henderson, “Basketball Wives”’ executive producer, through the days leading up to her destination wedding to Pastor Keion Henderson at 10p.

Frndly TV and fire pit maker Solo Stove are teaming for Cozy Holiday Bonfire Presented by Solo Stove, a pop-up channel joining the Frndly TV lineup today, November 8. The channel is available to Frndly TV subscribers through January 3, with a fall theme followed by a holiday theme.
Cinedigm will integrate ROW8 into the company’s recently launched flagship streaming service, Cineverse. Through the partnership with ROW8, Cineverse will offer consumers the ability to rent recently released premium theatrical movies on a transactional video-on-demand basis.
MagellanTV has launched FAST channel War & Military Now on Plex, offering content sourced from MagellanTV’s trove of historical and modern-era war and military programming.

More than half (51%) of advertisers expect to invest more in Out of Home in 2023, according to a new survey of brand marketers and agencies released by BWG Strategy and Talon America. While advertisers are currently allocating 4 to 5% of overall budgets to OOH, the survey indicates 93% of advertisers are planning to allocate 5% or more of their overall marketing budgets to OOH in 2023; and 97% are planning to allocate 5% or more in 2025. Marketers report they are planning to shift budgets from other channels to OOH — with social media (31%) and linear TV (25%) representing the top channels that advertisers will shift budget from to allocate more investment in OOH.
Days after cutting its staff in half, Twitter is looking to rehire dozens of the staffers it laid off. Some were let go by mistake, reports Fortune, while others were released before management realized they were needed to help build new features on owner Elon Musks wish list.
