AT&T has agreed to acquire Time Warner for $85.4 billion, which – assuming the deal passes regulatory hurdles – will make the telecommunications giant home to Turner Networks and Warner Bros. TV Studios, and able to produce and distribute content across wireless phone, broadband and satellite TV. “Time Warner’s leadership, creative talent and content are second to none,” said Randall Stephenson, AT&T chairman and CEO in an announcement Saturday night. “Combine that with 100 million plus customers who subscribe to our TV, mobile and broadband services – and you have something really special.” Jeff Bewkes will remain at Time Warner as CEO during regulatory review, and remain long enough to “ensure a smooth transition,” Bewkes said.

Carol Burnett will star in a comedy in development at ABC, about a family whose dream house includes an unwelcome tenant played by Burnett. The show will be produced by Burnett fan Amy Poehler through her Paper Kite. “We watched Carol with our moms and our moms taught us 90 percent of what we needed to know to be the kind of women we are today,” said Poehler. “And the other 10 percent is Carol.”
