NBC Sports Group reshuffled its executive ranks, announcing a reorganization of the structure and leadership of its RSNs. The company named Ted Griggs – previously President and GM of CSN Bay Area and CSN California – as President, Group and Strategic Production & Programming Leader, NBC Sports Regional Networks to oversee CSN New England, CSN Philadelphia, TCN, and CSN Mid-Atlantic in addition running strategy for Production and Programming for all NBC Sports Regional Networks. Bill Bridgen, previously President and General Manager of CSN New England, was promoted to President, Group Leader, NBC Sports Regional Networks, and will oversee CSN Bay Area, CSN California, CSN Chicago and CSN Northwest. Other moves saw Tom Stathakes take on the role of SVP and General Manager of CSN Bay Area and CSN California.
Outside the division, NBC Sports Group also found its new ad sales chief, naming Dan Lovinger as EVP for the sports sales group, according to B&C.
The Dodgers’ Clayton Kershaw also threw a win for FOX Sports on Sunday, with the team’s win in the NLCS ranking as the most-watched telecast in FS1 history with an average audience of 7,291,000, according to Nielsen fast national figures. Audience numbers were up 67% over the channel’s comparable NLCS Game 2 and up 174% over 2015’s ALCS Game 2. Among the hometown markets, NLCS Game 2 set record high overnight ratings for FS1 in both Los Angeles (10.8) and Chicago (23.9). Meanwhile, FOX Deportes ranked as the most-watched LCS game in the history of Spanish language television, averaging 291,000 total viewers.
Months of hype leading to a potential Big 12 expansion led to a void, as university presidents for the conference decided on Monday to not add any new members while they worked with its TV partners to get a pay raise by not adding new schools. According to FOX Sports, the Big 12 will not completely shut the door on potential expansion until it has locked in a deal with its media partners and eliminated a pro rate clause in the current deals.
SNF drew a 9.0/15 in Nielsen metered markets for NBC’s coverage of the Colts/Texans. Deadline writes that those numbers mark the franchise’s worst performance of the 2016 season as well as a five-year low for the show. That said, the game still carried the network to win the night in primetime. Top markets: Indy 35.0/54; Houston 25.1/40; Austin 13.5/24; Denver 13.3/24; New Orleans 12.9/19.
MLS announced that Sunday’s match between the LA Galaxy’ and FC Dallas will get national carriage on FS1 and FOX Deportes at 1p for Decision Day. Meanwhile, ESPN and ESPN Deportes will air the Seattle Sounders FC versus Real Salt Lake match that day with ESPN2 offering a “MLS Decision Day Whiparound” studio show.
ESPN Deportes is adding Jorge Perez-Navarro to its lineup as a play-by-play commentator for a slate of soccer events on ESPN Deportes Radio and ESPN Deportes TV. He will also make regular appearances on Jorge Ramos y Su Banda.

DFL broadcast services subsidiary Sportcast locked in a joint-venture with global sport media services company Deltatre to launch a new company named Sportec Solutions GmbH. The new entity will oversee all official match data gathering, storage and distribution for Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 matches.
AHL franchise the Ontario Reign launched the team’s new 24/7 radio station, Reign Radio, through TuneIn, the first team in the American Hockey League to have their own exclusive 24/7 radio channel on the platform. .
YouTube Red and Dan Harmon’s Starburns Industries are launching a new scripted comedy series surrounding the world of eSports via a partnership with Game Grumps. The half-hour show features YouTube stars Dan Avidan and Arin Hanson and “follows a newly formed team of eSports players trying to make it to the top in the cutthroat world of competitive gaming.” The series debuts in 2017. “Video games are wildly popular on YouTube and we’re thrilled to bring fans this comedy about the world of competitive gaming,” said Susanne Daniels, Global Head of Original Content, YouTube. “Starburns Industries and Game Grumps are combining two things their audiences’ love comedy and video games. It will be fun to watch how these characters comically deal with their ‘underdog’ status while still trying to win big.”
NYCFC became the North American soccer club to dabble in eSports, launching a Best in the City Challenge. The tournament sees the club partner with Players’ Lounge for an online FIFA 17 tournament that will wrap up when the team faces the Columbus Crew on Oct. 23 at the Yankee Stadium fan zone.
After being purchased by the Philadelphia 76ers, Team Dignitas now has a new CEO with the appointment of former game developer Jonathan Kemp. Dignitas Chairman Greg Richardson told ESPN that “We obviously have big ambitions, relative to having a championship caliber team for every game we compete in. We also want to build an exciting business that can give back to the fans real value across every aspect of the business. So as we stepped back and looked at everything that had to get done, both with the team building and the business operations, we clearly needed a world-class CEO to make that happen.”
Fanatics announced that former Ticketmaster Chief Revenue Officer Cole Gahagan was named Chief Commercial Officer of the company. He joins with an extensive background in sports and entertainment, having spent nearly ten years leading Ticketmaster and Live Nation’s client business, strategic partnerships and business analytics.
