Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch hinted that the series could be coming to a close after its fourth season, in an interview with GQ UK. “It might be the end of an era. It goes to a place where it will be pretty hard to follow on immediately,” said Cumberbatch. The BBC One series has aired since 2010.

Bob DeBitetto, A+E Networks’ President of Brand Strategy, Business Development, is exiting the company after 14 years. The news was released via an internal memo by A+E Networks’ president and CEO Nancy Dubuc. He will remain at A+E Studios until the end of the year. DeBitetto originally joined A&E in January 2003 as Senior Vice President, Programming. He was promoted to Executive Vice President, Programming in March 2005.

The Dancing With the Stars troupe is heading back on the road. Dancing with the Stars: Live! We Came to Dance travels to 43 cities this winter beginning December 16 in Reno, NV, and running through February 14 in Costa Mesa, CA. The new production showcases every type of ballroom and modern dance seen on the ABC show and features dancers from the show including Lindsay Arnold, Artem Chigvintsev, Sharna Burgess, Val Chmerkovskiy, Emma Slater, Jenna Johnson, Gleb Savchenko, Keo Motsepe, Alan Bersten, Hayley Erbert and more. NEW & RETURNING SERIES

A&E showcases the policing of America in documentary series Live PD, debuting Friday, October 28 at 9p. It offers viewers access inside the country’s busiest police forces and the communities they patrol.

NBA TV’s Open Court kicks off its sixth season with a panel of NBA head coaches on Wednesday, October 5 at 6p. Matt Winer steers the roundtable forum through an in-depth discussion on topics including earning players’ trust, building a winning culture and their most difficult coaching challenges.

COMING UP

AMC hosts a live, 90-minute special edition of Talking Dead, featuring 12 cast members of The Walking Dead and EPs Scott M. Gimple and Robert Kirkman, on Sunday, October 23 at 10p, directly following The Walking Dead premiere at 9p. Fans will have the opportunity to win free tickets to the screening of the show’s 7th season debut and The Talking Dead taping, hosted by Chris Hardwick, at Los Angeles’ Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Dan Rather hosts an election movie marathon on Sunday, November 6 starting at 2p on HDNET Movies. The event features exclusive insights and wraps from Rather for seven films, including The Ides of March, Primary Colors and In the Line of Fire.

Leading up to the presidential election, getTV is airing interviews between Merv Griffin and four former presidents: Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagen, from The Merv Griffin Show. To air every Monday at 10p from October 17 through November 7.

USO – for the Troops, an independent documentary film that chronicles the American institution created 75 years ago to bring pieces of home to active duty troops around the world, airs Monday, November 7 at 9p on PBS.  (Check local listings.) on PBS. The film is narrated by David Strathairn.

World of X Games on ABC features weekly action sports content throughout October, as well as the Trestles and France stops of the World Surf League Championship Tour. SuperSnake, a 22-minute short about the ultimate snowboard and skateboard hybrid dream course, airs Sunday, October 16 at 2p. Unchained: The Untold Story of Freestyle Motocross airs Sunday, October 23 at 2:30p.
 

CASTING

Starz announced two key new roles to Season 3 of Outlander. Cesar Domboy (The Walk) will play an older version of Fergus, the French pickpocket Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe) took under their wing in Season 2. British actress Lauren Lyle will portray Marsali, one of Laoghaire’s (Nell Hudson) young daughters.

John Carroll Lynch (Fargo) was cast as a series regular on Channel Zero: The No-End House. He’ll play John Sleator, a troubled family man. Syfy anthology horror series bows in 2017.

Tzi Ma (Hell on Wheels) landed a recurring role on the sophomore season of Amazon‘s The Man in the High Castle. Ma will play General Onoda, an intelligent, nuanced and excellent soldier from a working-class background.

Newcomer Cameron Cuffe nabbed the lead in Syfy’s Superman prequel, Krypton. He’ll play the superhero’s grandfather.

DISTRIBUTION

TBS closed a deal with NBCUniversal for cable syndication rights to the first five seasons of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Pact begins in 2017 and includes exclusive linear rights and associated on-demand rights, including rolling episodes on TV Everywhere. The FOX series just kicked off its fourth season, so the Season 5 component of the deal is contingent on a renewal next season.

Pasiones acquired U.S. rights to Azteca series Lo Que Callamos Las Mujeres. Series premieres Tuesday, October 4 at 3p and will air Tuesdays and Thursdays.

LBI Media, Inc. inked an agreement with AT&T for carriage of Estrella TV on DIRECTV, expanding its carriage across the U.S. Begins October 4 on Channel 442.

DIGITAL DOINGS

Hulu dropped the price of its ad-supported tier from $7.99 per month to $5.99. The promo price lasts for one year and is only available to new subscribers. The move helps the streamer undercut the $7.99 entry level tiers of Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.

Astronauts Wanted re-upped late night show Tawk for Seasons 4 and 5 on go90 for early 2017.

GLOBAL GOINGS ON

Beano Studios commissioned Dennis & Gnasher: Unleashed. The series will showcase a new-look and feel CGI Dennis for TV screens across the country and is due to air on CBBC in late 2017.
Grupo TVCABLE struck a deal to distribute Ride Television Network, Inc.’s RIDE TV to their customers in Ecuador. It will be the first of its kind network to be distributed in Latin America.
France’s Groupe AB signed Cesar Millan to host The Messenger, its first English-language series for the global TV market. It focuses on Milan sharing the triumphs and sorrows of conservationists.
Quintus Media signed a three-year deal with German’s ProSiebenSat.1 to contribute 90 hours of programming to documentary channel Kabel Eins Doku (K1 Doku). Titles to air include science documentaries Mighty Ships, Mighty Planes and Mighty Cruise Ships; The Rise of the Nazi Party and Great Crimes and Trials from IMG; and Deadly Shootouts from U.S. based Principal Media.

MIPCOM

Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL) has a slate of new and current formats heading to MIPCOM for licensing and development. Included are India’s original dance reality show, Dance India Dance, game show Moksha, Phantasmagoria, a series of 12 twisted short stories, and The Eclipse Harvest, a crime series about the NYPD Organized Crime Control Bureau.

Endemol Shine Group closed deals for Big Music Quiz and Locked ahead of MIPCOM 2016, where they will be among the format highlights for the market. Big Music Quiz rolls out with new commissions in the Netherlands and Italy, bringing the show to five territories; while Israeli game show Locked landed a second series with Reshet.

Keshet International (KI) partnered with New Form to distribute three digital scripted series to buyers at MIPCOM. KI will seek out both linear TV and digital opportunities for the series internationally. Series include high school comedy Mr. Student Body President, sci-fi adventure MISS 2059 and Aces.
